So that was you. I used to wash out my unmentionables there.

Message: Good Super Bowl Morning JB! I was just reading Jean's (c/o '68) post. Does anyone remember when they introduced the 1963 Admiral TV.....now with "Spectra Vision!"? Food for thought - was there a telethon that wiped out lumbago? Nobody complains of that anymore. Maybe that's what castor oil cured, because I never hear mothers threatening their kids with castor oil anymore. And JB - great idea on the "Cougartown Reminders" e-mail. Nice Job!
Good morning Anita, The reminders, which I still have some to send, were sent because lots of our Cougartown family doesn't check in here too often. Is this deja vu or did I read this same Feedback on the Net somewhere, about a week ago.

Message: I for one can?t seem to put ?Taco Tio? and Taco Bell in the same sentence. ?Taco Tio? bad great food and their sauce was to die for. Imagine using a packet of ?Taco Tio?s? Tostado hot sauce for a bomb. You guys are so out to lunch. I don?t remember anything else from ?Taco Tio? but their ?Tostado?s?. I was such a ?Tostado? freak, four for a dollar and I was set for the night. Talk about foaming at the mouth. John, I got your e-mail from Cougartown?s upcoming events. It was nice to see future happenings in writing, more people can plan for them.
Hey Pat, It would be nice, seeing that you live so close, that you would show at our Winter/Spring Cruise Night. How about it?

Hi Marilyn, Yes, it's legit. I stayed up until 3am this morning emailing most (still have 15 classes to email) about our upcoming Ctown events this year. Lots of people know the site is here but might not visit too often, so I figure on sending out reminders every few months. Just trying to keep us all together, so go ahead and open it.

Message: Hi...Had to make a comment on color tvs. When did the first color tv come out? I think the first family on our block to have one was the Adams family. Their son Phil went to HHS. I believe he graduated in 66...not sure. Anyway, a few times we would sit on their grass and watch their tv through their big picture window in front of the house. We would only sit a minute ot 2...we didn't want to get caught! My dad bought our color tv around 1965. He was dead set about not getting one....But after he bought one and saw a football game on it....he was hooked! He was amazed at how you could really see the football...He didn't have a remote for it...he had me for that! I remember my moms old wringer washer...It pinched her fingers all the time...So my dad got her the washer and dryer...she was in heaven. We used to hang our clothes on a line. My dad installed one that hooked up to the side of the garage. You could stretch the line (about 4 of them I guess) across the other yard to a huge doll house he had built for my sister and I. It was nice cause it wasn't a permanent fixture. Last.....its always nice when the stories of the Plaza and Taco Tio resurface....Love those stories....and Safeway, Folbs Toyland etc....keep'em coming!
Hi Jean, Great memories there all right. The first Color TV I saw was about 1954. We didn't have a color set when I was in school, but I do remember it was a portable TV, about a 13", and had a rudimentary remote control. You could turn the set on and off, and the channel changer would click one station at a time. When you'd press the remote button, it would blow air out the front at a certian frequency, and change the channel. We've come along way baby....

Message: In 1972, 9 years old and playing Hawthorne American Little League on the Tigers we had pretty cool vest top uniforms an then we wore purple shirts under, and on the back of the vest in pretty big letters was our sponsers name ANDY'S TACO TIO. I kinda remember showing up in our uniforms after some games during the season and getting free food and drinks. After that year AMATO'S PIZZA was our sponsor for the next 3 years but the sponsors name were not huge on the back of the uniforms anymore. Wonder who and why that changed?? Does anyone remember why we stopped playing at Snark Field in 74? And who was Snark ???
Snark was the first ever Northrop guided missile.

Message: Man alive, looks like Antonio Bay with the Fog rollin' in out here in Lakewood. Could swear I'd seen the ghosts of pirates milling about out there. Taco Tio, the best fried burritos around, bar none. My buds and I would always stop there before or after playing basketball at the old church with the lit court. I remember a gal working there asked me out to a Humble Pie/Foghat concert replete with flowers and dinner afterwards. What did I do to deserve that? Musta been the looks. Taco Tio, gone but never forgotten. Howya doin' B man.
Hey Ed, Not bad and glad to hear from you. You've been absent for a few weeks. See you at the next VFW Breakfast.

Message: Trina Rohr, Milagro Velasco and I just celebrated Trina's 50th Birthday together in December. Trina's birthday is on Christmas day so she always gets slighted on her day. I remember in high school bringing a birthday cake to school for Trina on a day that obviously wasn't her birthday just so she could feel what it was like to have a normal birthday. So here I am again picking a random day to say Happy Birthday to Trina!
Happy 50th to everyone from the class of '74 who celebrate that milestone this year!
Thank you Kathleen, and Happy Bday to Trina and all in the class of 74....

Message: Taco Tio was a precurser for Taco Bell with far better tacos and burritos. I remember going there when I was very young to take piano lessons from Mrs. Walker who lived in a little house by the Plaza. Her house was built probably in the 20s. It had glass door knobs and push button light fixtures. Black for 'off' and white for 'on'. In her living room were pictures of herself as a very young woman giving recitals at the Plaza in it's 'hay day'. Her stories of the Plaza were pretty cool. I had no talent at all and never practiced but, she made it fun anyway. I remember my mom paying a dollar a lesson. Anybody out there remember taking piano lessons from Mrs. Walker?
