Message: From a long time UCLA and Notre Dame fan I have to admit that I'll be pushing for USC to beat that team from South Oklahoma. For all of you that follow USC football, keep an eye on Mark Sanchez next year. He red shirted this year and wants to replace Booty. Beside being a good QB, he is a good person, just like some of us back in the 50's. By the way, Betsy and I will be watching the Rose Bowl game with friends here in Coto that used to cruise Hawthorne Blvd from PV to the Wichstand (Fosters, A&W,etc.) in the early 60's. Hey Mary Ann W., why doesn't that husband of yours give me a shout. I'd call him but I'm not sure that he is taking calls. I hope you are keeping him busy.
Have a great 2006.
Hey Gary, Thanks for rooting for our Trojans. I can't believe all my friends who are rooting for "Baja OK" because they say USC is a rich kids school. If you can afford to go to a Div 1A University, it IS a rich kids school.
On the Mark Sanchez thing; I believe he came from the same school as Carson Palmer, Mission Viejo. Lots of potential there. Thanks for the shout.

Message: Happy 2006! I have been reading back through the posts, and I am not sure where the question came up about the first kiss, but I remember mine. I was in the 7th grade and at a party at Sandy Deithch's. My first kiss was Danny Hague, and it was memorable. While I was reading the posts out loud to my husband he remembered his too and we had some laughs about them. Just in case anyone here ever see's or hears from Bonnie George (HHS66), let her know that I am looking for her. She introduced Jerry and I over 36 years ago and we would love to see her again. Again, Happy New Year all Haytowner's near and far, and a special greeting to JB, the guy that keeps us all together. :o) Hugs, Jan
Thanks Jan...

Message: Firsts huh? Okay. It was in the sixth grade. Mike Mahr's clubhouse. Spin-the-bottle. I think there was one other guy besides Mike and I. The two girls were Kathy Hoctor and Frances Thomas. Kathy was my first. We started timing (counting out loud) how long we kissed. Little did we know you could breathe through your nose so it was a contest of how long you could kiss while holding your breath. After a while Kathy got inventive and slipped me the tongue. It was the most unbelievable feeling I had ever had up to that point in my life. Afterward, I ran into some buddies and told them about it. To my shock, they informed me that putting your tongue in a girl's mouth would make her pregnant. That night I had absolutely no appetite and worried frightfully how I would tell my dad that I would probably have to get married by the seventh grade!!!!
That, I did not know...

Message: Belated Merry Christmas & New Years to all my fellow Cougars. Ah yes down the memory lane once again. Of times gone by, when young ladies turned from which we desired to avoid to those that we desired. Of those we dreamed to acheive but never did and those we fumbled through the stages of titilation growing up with, both not to be forgotten. These truly were the good times among many. First kisses were many to be thought of but only one acheived, mine was a young lady by the name of Joanna C. in the 7th grade. Today I sit here writng my post to my friends on one of the few mornings I haven't spent at the beach of late. Life is good, Love is grand, to be healthy enough to still get out in the waves as much as I can and mix it up with the young guys makes me feel truly blessed for being able to live it this way. Most of all, to be able to communicate here sharing our lives, keeping friendships long lasting, is truly one more special thing that helps make our lives more joyful. Thank you John for all of your efforts. Surf report: Today, High Surf and Blownout unridable wind chop. Past month through New Years weekend has been great with 4 to 20' foot gnarly drop ins and hardly anyone else out to get in the way. Been really good for the ole 10'2" picnic table, although it got slightly dinged along with my chin trying to rip off the lip of a 10 footer. COWABUNGA COUGS
Thanks Walter, and Happy New Year to you and your surfin' buddies.

Message: Maybe it?s just me, but this has been the most bazaar New Years that I have ever experienced. Being a traditionalist I am used to getting up on January 1 to the noise of the TV announcers and the Rose Parade marching towards the Rose Bowl. Then in the afternoon everyone gathers in front of the TV with their snacks to watch the big game. Yeah, I know, People have tried to explain it to me that it fell on Sunday, which is a pro day, and that only the best teams are playing the Rose Bowl delaying it for three days. But some how I feel like I am caught in some kind of insane progressive Twilight Zone that goes on for days. It?s a conspiracy I tell you! ?They? are trying to destroy our American traditions!!! There, now I feel better? I have to admit it was nice for a change not having events take up the day allowing more time to visit with our son and his family listening to their goals and hopes and positive outlook for the new year. Almost everyone we know has very good feelings about this year. Here?s hoping all of you and your families will have a happy and positive 2006 --- Baxter
Hey Baxter, I got up thinking the same thing yesterday morning. I turned on the TV and nothing but infomercials and televangelists. I'm thinking, I'm sure this is the first. Didn't we just do New Years Eve last night? Now I'm REALLY thinking....what did they put in that 1/2 pint of rot-gut cheap hooch I bought to celebrate with? Also, IT'S RAINING and it NEVER rains on New Years Day. I was spooked all day because I saw nothing but PRO games on TV. Was Rod Serling waiting in the other room to do his opening monologue? I tell you I poured what was left of that bottle of "Ol' Yeller Dog" right down the sink (it cleared up my slow drain too). Now I get up this morning and it's still raining and the wind is blowing. Can't wait til the parade starts as I'm sure one of those giant "Presidents Trophy Finalists" with somebody's "Queen and their Court" aboard will set sail for the San Gabriel mountains.
Talk to you all after "Parade Disaster Watch - 2006".....Don't forget, you heard it here first.

Message: The older we get, the more apparent it becomes, as to what a small world this really is.....Any one of us is only about six acquaintances away from anyone else. Even in the vast confusion of the World Wide Web, on the average, one page is only about 16 to 20 clicks away from any other. But how, without being able to see the whole map, can we get a message to a person who is only "six degrees of seperation" away?
ANSWER?.....Cougartown
Thank You John Baker and Happy New Year!
Yes, you are TOTALLY correct. It's an easy step to your favorite Cougar IF you know the way. Just ask here and I'm sure someone knows someone, who knows your friend. Thanks Anita, as you too understand the way it works....and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Message: Wow...we're talking about 1st kiss huh? Well that brought me back a flashback! Now first of all, it is a man's duty to be the one to make the first move. And, it is he to pick the time and place as to where he will feel comfortable. But that was all taken away from me...the glory..the HONOR of "Making my move". I was 13 at the time and I was in the 7th Grade. It happen right in my own backyard. You see, I had neighbors that had 4 kids. I don't remember their last names but it was Michelle, Tina, Denese and Joey. I lived on 116th street and they were across my fence on Kornblum Ave. on a triplex. What really interesting that they lived at my former home which my mom rented before she bought the house on 116th street. Now here we are...me and "Tina" just talking and chatting away. Being fun and goofy and it was getting sort of late and she is on one side of the fence and I on the other. Next thing you know she just went up to me and KISSED ME! and ran back into the house before I could respond to anything. I just stood there in AWE....as to "What just happened here?" Then I thought...omg...she took away my glory...my honor(hehehehe). ok ok....I'll admit I was slow on the ball game. And I'll also admit she is a cute blondie! But what I am shocked to say.....is the was in the 5th grade! GRRRRRR. She had more guts than I did. But, I must of not been a good kisser because she never kissed me again and she shortly moved from her home to an unknown location. I still think about her from time to time. Hope she is happy and healthful.
Thanks Ray

Message: John, thanks for the heads up on Lonesome Dove, I love that series. Being emotional this year, I cried when Gus died. This is the first year I haven?t had any children in the house during the Holiday Season. My wife says I?m suffering from the ?Empty Nest? syndrome. I?ve had five boys and one girl since I left high school and this is the saddest holiday season I have ever spent. So it?s just me the wife and a bottle of Jose Cuervo and no kids. I could get used to this. Happy New year Cougartown.
Hey Pat, Gus was a good ol' boy, but no need for tears Happy New Year....

Message: Gee I feel like I was an old maid by the time I got my first kiss compared to some of you. I was just 15 in my sophomore year. I was more thrilled at the idea of my first kiss than the kiss itself. That was from Gene Henderson from Leuzinger, my off and on again boyfriend for the next 2 1/2 years. Then my future husband - in my senior year- gave me a real kiss that included fireworks -WOW! Our oldest grandaughter turned 21 today! Happy New Year one and all!
Great story Marilyn. Happy New Year to you and Fireworks boy.
