Message: Season's Greetings JB.....
In reading Jake's recent post, sounds as if you are getting ready to take a much deserved Christmas break away from this website.
So before you take off, I'd just like to say, to all our military men and women, to all our firemen, paramedics, and police officers ~ God Bless you for all that you do in keeping us safe and protected. For all of our retired Cougars who chose to serve in one of these chosen fields - thank you for your unselfish dedication and the sacrifices you have made over the years.
Sometimes we get so busy adding up our troubles that we forget to count our blessings. Never underestimate the power of our actions. With one small gesture we can change a person's life, for better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. This website alone John Baker, has impacted hundreds. To just say "thank you" hardly seems enough.
May Christmas inspire each of us to give a little of what we have, to share a little of who we are, and to help make this the kind of world that it was meant to be.
Merry Christmas to all ~

Thank you Anita, Merry Christmas to you and all you've mentioned, as I feel the same way. The Website? Well it certainly has impacted many people in lots of different ways. I hope you all genuinely find your true HHS friends again as that's what it's all about. AND to all who found the true HHS love of their life..... and then divorced them in a year or so.....I'm TRULY sorry.

ALSO SAW THE PICTURE OF ALL THE VALENCIA KIDS AND THAT BROUGHT UP A MEMORY....CARLOS VALENCIA....WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HIM? HE WAS IN ONE OF MY CLASSES AT EUCALYPTUS...5TH OR 6TH GRADE. I REMEMBER HIM BEING VERY SHY....EVEN MORE SHY THAN I WAS...ONE MORE ITEM HERE....I GOT THIS EMAIL ADVERTISING A NEW HAWTHORNE HIGH SCHOOL WEB SITE.....IT SAID TO SIGN UP TO CLICK INTO THE WEBSITE LISTED...WHICH WAS WWW.HAWTHORNEHS.COM....I JUST DELETED IT ALL TOGETHER. HAS ANYONE ELSE RECEIVED THIS AND IS IT LEGIT? *
That website which is one of a group at http://www.alumniarchive.net/ is just another Classmates.com thing where a guy named Mike Brown at 3154 Gosheff Lane Gambrills, MD 21054 makes a bunch of websites, each looking like your hometown high school website. Then tries to get you to send money to him, kinda like me. Anyway, no need to panic as he's NOT our HHS website.

Message: Andy Rooney? Well....as I age, I'm beginning to see the resemblance. So, here's a question. If Jesus was really born in the Spring and somehow we decided to move Christmas to his actual birthday, instead of the Pagan holiday of Winter Solstice, would we still have snow globes and snowmen and Santa Claus dressed up for 30 below? What do the Christmas cards in Australia look like? Santa on a surfboard? Baby Jesus without a blanket? When I was a kid in Hawthorne I used to pray for a white Christmas. I didn't see snow fall until I was in New York in 2000. I had seen it on the ground after a two hour drive to Big Bear but never actually falling from the sky. But, I loved getting sweaters and jackets for Christmas gifts even though Christmas was often followed by a heat wave. When I was going to Hawthorne Intermediate there was the a sweater craze. Black, hooded, zip-up sweaters that had to be worn falling off our shoulders. You just weren't 'cool' if you didn't have one. My mother cringed seeing me with my sweater hanging off my shoulders, down around my waist, sort of the way I cringe when I see boys today with eight inches of their boxers showing. I'm always tempted to grab their jeans and give them a tug. My 21 year old niece, the daughter of Linda, class of '66, wears her jeans so tight and so low you can see the crack of her ass, as if she was a plumber's assistant. It's so unattractive, but then, every generation has to have something they can look back at and shake their heads. For Christmas, this year, I'm asking for more homes for the homeless, a bigger and better New Orleans, and for every man and woman in uniform to be safe and warm. There's nothing I need or want that I can't just reach out and get but for those of us with computers and each other, it's good to be reminded that we are the few. We are blessed, indeed. I love you guys. May each and everyone of you have a Merry Christmas and Prosperous, Healthy and Happy New Year!
Hey Liz, Pagan Holiday or not, December 25 will always be Christmas to me. Merry Christmas....

Message: Elizabeth Dahling..... You know ruffled feathers always makes a woman stand out in a crowd more! But to chime in with you.....I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. And I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory of evolution either! Okay John, I'll stop, because I know how these things can seem to take on a life all their own.
Getting back to the "good old days".... When was the last time you heard the quaint phrase "in a family way?" It's hard to imagine that the word PREGNANT was once considered a little too graphic, a little too clinical for use in polite company. So we had all the talk about "stork" visits and "being in a family way" or just simply..... "expecting".

Hey Anita, I think it was OK to say "Knocked Up" though, wasn't it? Another one that came to mind today, for some unknown reason, was when you'd ask one of your buddies, what time it was, and he'd say "Half Past A Monkeys Ass, a Quarter To His.......his..something-er-other.

Tonight, our neighbors, the Dierks Outlaws, lost 22-9 in the AA state championship. However, our AAA Nashville Scrappers defeated a private Little Rock school, 28-14. We're very proud of our team and coaches and their 13-1 record. Good kids, good students, good football. Now, we're ready for girl's basketball and softball - my grand daughter's getting some good looks by Division I and II colleges. Again, MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!
