Message: Well they had the big parade for out little league team today. We actually had three winning teams in the world. Little League World Series winners, the Cal Ripken World Series winners and the Intercontinental League winners (which I never heard of). They went down Kalakaua Ave. and about 10,000 people lined the streets from Ala Moana to Queens Beach. It was pretty neat, the kids did good. Did any Hawthorne team ever go to Williamsports. I knwo my last year our team won the Middle League World Series up in Santa Maria. I had 10 home runs in 11 games in that series, and threw out the fasyesy HS runner in the State at second base. By a mile I might say. Of course our pitcher Greg Staffon kept him close for me.
Our Little League team never made it to Williamsport, but we did get to wear our unies to the Griffith Park Observatory once.

Message: I came across this phrase in a book yesterday - "fender skirts". Thinking about "fender skirts" started me thinking about other words that quietly disappear from our language with hardly a notice. Like "curb feelers" and "steering knobs". Any kids today will probably have to find some elderly person over 50 to explain some of these terms to them. Remember "Continental kits" ? They were rear bumper extenders and spare tire covers that were supposed to make any car as cool as a Lincoln Continental. And when did we quit calling them "emergency brakes" ? At some point "parking brake" became the proper term. But I miss the hint of drama that went with "emergency brake". I'm sad too, that almost all the old folks are gone who would call the accelerator the "foot feed". Didn't you ever wait at the street for your daddy to come home so you could ride the "running board" up to the house?
Man, you're not THAT old, are you Anita? The name Continental kit actually came from the Lincoln Continental, and steering knobs aka brody knobs, suicide knobs, AND curb feelers were available at Allied Auto Parts and Wynns Bros in Hawthorne not over 30 years ago. Emergency brakes to parking brakes.....I don't know.
Who remembers Appliance Plating in Gardena where you could get seconds on chrome wheels (before Mags) for about 19 dollars a wheel?

Thanks John and I would love to come to the Sept 17th picnic in the park but, I must go to San Jose that day on company business. Looking over the list I see a number of names I would like to meet. Oh well, there will be other opportunities I'm sure. I wish you all an excellent day at the park!
Hey Jim, thanks for that and don't forget Cruise Night on the 24th. Happy Labor Day to you too and to all the laboring Cougs out there.

Message: Hi, everyone. After several weekends of trial and error and learning a new skill (i.e., creating a website), I finally got www.beachboyslandmark.org pretty much up and running again. I say ?pretty much? because about half of the pages are still under construction. Of special importance as we?re still paying off Landmark bills, is the Donations page. The brick donation program is back. There are plenty of bricks remaining on the Beach Boys Historic Landmark in Hawthorne that can be inscribed onsite, and we?re again accepting donations. So? if you want to be part of the Good Vibrations that is the Beach Boys Historic Landmark, you have another chance. Go to www.beachboyslandmark.org and make your donation for a brick inscribed with your name or message of choice. BTW, since I?m a novice at website design, please email me at bblandmarkchair@yahoo.com if there are any links that appear to be broken, and I?ll get them fixed. Thanks, everyone, for your help in the past and for your continued support in the future. Harry Jarnagan
Thanks Harry, and good luck with the website and the Beach Boy Bricks.

Message: John, you asked ?Where did everybody go?? Well for my part, I have been glued to the TV news, news sites, staying close to the phone and in contact with our son and his family who live in New Orleans. They escaped to Houston Saturday night after my son and his crew finished chaining down all they could at the ship yards where he works. Their home is east of New Orleans and appears to be under water at this time. Nothing they can do until the rescue operations are completed and the water recedes. Thank God all are safe including our son and his family, and his in-laws. Wow! In looking back through the feedbacks I see lots of fun things, an ever-growing picnic list, Coug sitings, birthday parties, even a wedding. Best wishes and many happy returns to all participants. ----Baxter
