Message: Raymond Smith, I remember in the 60's there were sand dollars on the beach, though, not many, I've forgotten what ornaism they are the remains of, but not any longer, along the eastern seaboard around florida though. Crab crabs, yeah, they're still there, but only the small ones that scuttle amongst the rocks and pilings. Phil Pomerleau, yeah, I remember you, slick, dark hair, back from 129th st. Haven't heard your name in a long time. Most everyone from that time is still alive, somewhere, if you call it life, except for Randy Chapman and Rick Gestone, both have since passed on. Good to hear from you, congrats on joining Cougartown, many years have passed.

p.s., does anyone here know of a good Luezinger site to contact old HS friends, I tried one, but the main contact's email was returned as undeliverable? had seen two friends names but no email listings for them.
Thanks for contributing, Ed. Good idea.... As for the Leuzinger site, look on the bottom of the Whats New Page. You'll find a couple of links there.

Message: Forgive me if this is not an Hawthorne issue but I was wondering from the older people with better memory than me, of the beaches in the 60's. I just got back from Seaside, OR and saw things that either I never seen in Calif or I did but it was history ago. My daughter who is 5 1/2 yrs old and I collected Sand dollars and we collected lots of them. I never seen them in Calif. Do they exist? Also, daughter and I saw many Crabs during low tide. Now if memory serves me correct, I remember seeing them in Long Beach one year(late 60's). I remember being scared because there were lots of them and I didn't want my toes pinched. Can anyone verified that there were crabs along the beaches (as well as in the south bay). Thanks.
I just remember sand crabs...

Message: I have been debating whether to call this a Cougar siting, but since the question was asked, I may have a clue as to where you might find Jack Dicus. Several weeks ago, we were watching CNN and they were interviewing the man who pulled a young shark attack victim from the water in Florida. He was identified as "Tim" Dicus, age 54, but we think that rescuer was Jack Dicus. His name caught my husband's (Max Lewis '68)attention and we quickly pulled the old '68 El Molino from the shelf to compare his photo with the man being interviewed. Now a lot of years have gone by, but it truly looked just like him...wrinkles and aging considered! So I think Jack is alive and well, surfing in Florida and being a hero to a family who sadly lost their young daughter in a shark attack, one of the "unsung" in the Cougar family. Bless him.
Thanks for the info, Barbara, and we'll count it as a sighting.

Hey everyone,
As the 1995 Senior Class VP, I am stepping up!!! Do we want to be the ONLY class that does NOT have a reunion? I am not too keen on having it at a hotel and all the regular stuff. I know that Ivette and Jackie have been working hard to get something going. Typically reunions are in October so we have a month for all of you to start making suggestions as to what you want to do. We can rent a club or another locale. You have to do your part and get the word out to those that you know don't, or choose not to, communicate through email. I will suggest a September 5th deadline so that people email me and make suggestions and we will vote by the 15th as to what we will do. I am looking forward to receiving your emails.
geezlist@yahoo.com
Thanks Guille, and Class of 95, DO NOT pass up your reunions. These are very special times. Contact Guille and get something going.

In reading the feedback, Andrea c/o'82 made a comment about not knowing anyone at the Cougartown outing. We just had the 6th LHS BBQ in Oregon. It was a success. I know of one HHS grad that attended, our guest was in the c/o '33.
By the end of the 3 days everyone new everybody. We had Alumni from '33 to '64 about 120 showed up.
Here's hoping you have as much fun as we did.
JD Haas LHS '57 Hey JD, Yes I know exactly what you mean as I see the same thing at our functions. Folks, It really doesn't matter when you graduated. You'll make new friends because of where you graduated.

Message: John (although I may not love you maaaannn anymore for messing with my foto last post here--just save your energy for the picnic and run the foto the way it truly is, bad beach hair and all, and know that I have always been able to make a mockery of myself all by myself without any extra help at all!), where was I? Oh, yes. I would like to tell your farflung multigenerational community here that today I was taking the Inner City Red Line, dressed in what has now unfortunately become my best suit, an ancient two-button Hugo Boss unvented jacket and pants with an EffScottFitgeraldian, then-I-was-drunk-for-many-years blue tie with white Hollywood dots. To get home, I transferred at the amazingly hollow and Piranesian Wilshire/Vermont station. Boarded the northbound train and on entering I spot a guy seated on the train wearing a "Which One's Pink" tee shirt, white and pink on black and of course utterly spiffy clean. Truly! I chatted this nattily-attired blond bohemian stranger up--yes, there we were, two splendid sartorial marvels--and it turns out that Which One's Pink is this gentleman's very favorite LA band. Beyond his obvious musical talent, it appears that Dan Johnson has done an outstanding job of brand management with his group of Branch Floydians...Peace and boat drinks mannnn...
Well joseph, you can run but you can't hide from our Cougar friends. I guess you missed this little beauty from Marla Crane. There are always skeletons and this one is a perfect example. I hope you like it, and seeing as you hate your senior pic, I'll be using this one from now on.
Although EffScott was a drunkard, but perfectly literate, he couldn't possibly have attired himself in your impeccable dress (God, am I starting to talk like you?)
Anyway, now that you've opened the W1P floodgates I'm sure Dan will chime in with another feeble freebee commercial about who the guy was, since they've only sold one Tshirt, and where they'll be playing next, while feverishly trying to tie that in with his Hawthorne roots.
Thank you joseph for being with us and for always raising the website's IQ but a few points. God knows a few of us Cougars made it. Peace and Pabst Blue Ribbon MAAAAANN....

Message: It's such a small world. Today I received an email from Craig Marshall who is one of the founding members of Cubensis -- the local Grateful Dead tribute band. The email said, in pertinent part,
Hey now! Another "hot August night" is upon us...this Saturday Aug 27 at the Rockit Cafe in Hawthorne. When we booked this show, I realized this club was located just one block from where I grew up in Hawthorne, partying thru high school and terrorizing the neighborhood. So, there's a certain degree of nostalgia going on when I personally invite each and every one of you to attend this Saturday. In all this time, Cubensis has never played a show in my hometown.
The club is located on Hawthorne Blvd just north of Rosecrans--easy to get to--just exit eastbound on Rosecrans from the 405, and turn north on Hawthorne Blvd. The club will be on your left-hand side at that point." I've known Craig the better part of 7 years and had no idea he was from Haytown. Although he is an HIS/Leuzinger alum, he was very appreciative Cougartown (all those Olympians seem to be). In any event, I'd love to go to this event but, alas, I have to spend this week in Fort Wayne Indiana with my wife's family. However, any Coug Deadheads out there (Kathleen, donde esta?) should check this Hawthorne event out because Cubensis is an incredible band! And, hey, I didn't even know there was a live music club in Hawthorne!

Message: Hey John, it's good to have you back. I was having CT withdrawal. I guess you deserve a vacation now and then. This picnic is really shaping up. I have some really different and interesting games for everyone to play. I need people to bring some panty hose. They can be used and have runs in them, but please make sure they are washed. If you can bring some, e-mail me at sharonlleach@cs.com It's for a really fun and funny game. Thanks to our e-mail team for getting those e-mails out. If you are on the fence about signing up for the picnic, remember somebody may be waiting to see your name before they sign up. Sometimes people wait to see someone elses name show up before they sign up and it turns into a catch 22, because that person may be waiting to see your name. It's only three weeks till the picnic and I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
Hey Sharon, I'm sorry but all my panty hose have runs, but I'll bet we can come up with a few pair for the picnic....Coffee OK? Also, I spoke with Dick Huhn from Hawthorne City Hall today and they'll be selling Hawthorne Tshirts, Beach Boy Hats, and Beach Boy Bricks at our picnic. Yes, they are still selling Monument Bricks. Hope to see lots and lots of Cougars at this one. It's going to be bigger than the Homecoming Picnic of 1999. BE THERE COUGS!!!
