Message: John, I've been chatting with a bunch of people from Leuzinger the last few days...We'd all like to come to the next Cruise Night bash this summer, if that would be all right...I've talked to John Wells who was with the group "Ken Loran and the Lorals" He would like to bring Harold Hinzo and their guitars and do some old songs of the 50's/60's...Would that be okay? Man, so much was said about the old "Lighthouse" I had to tell them to check out the Menu on Cougartown. Hey, I think Cruise Night is about to grow even bigger! Have you set a date for the next one yet? Hi Dave, Bringing the Leuzinger crowd, or any other school in the area, is fine with me. Coincidentally, the Lighthouse menu on the website was donated by Don Hinzo, Harold's brother.
Cruise Night 13 has no firm date yet.

Message: The family of Wally Nyman (Christina and Mike McCoy, granddaughters Theresa and Victoria McCoy, and niece Janyce Nyman Babon, a HHS grad) want to thank all the Hawthorne High Cougars for the beautiful flowers at his memorial service; for the support and love shown for Wally through those who attended the service (HHS was well-represented)and those who submitted the wonderful tributes and stories to the Cougartown website (know that we checked the website 2-3 times each day and read every one more than once); and for the wonderful remembrances and tributes by Rich Sloan and Coach Sid Semon at the memorial service. Special thanks to John Baker for having such a super website!
Be assured that your father was very much admired and loved by many more than added their tributes to him. Simply, Mr Nyman was someone who genuinely cared for all of us and went above and beyond to get us headed down the right paths in life. As students we probably didn't give him his due. As adults we tend to look back and see clearly, what youthful myopic eyes missed. Your father was simply the BEST at what he did for Hawthorne and Hawthorne High. We will never forget him.

Marine with new liver faces new complication
LOMA LINDA: He is in fair condition after his bone marrow stopped making red blood cells.
By DARRELL R. SANTSCHI / The Press-Enterprise
MARROW DONORS
People wanting to register as blood marrow donors can contact the Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, which has offices in San Bernardino, Riverside, Ontario, Upland and Hesperia.
LOMA LINDA - Marine Lance Cpl. Chris LeBleu's new liver is functioning well, a spokeswoman at Loma Linda University Medical Center said Wednesday, but a new complication threatens his life.
"The liver is great," Julie Smith said by phone. "There is no problem with the liver."
But the 22-year-old Iraq war veteran's bone marrow has stopped producing red blood cells and he likely will need a bone marrow transplant to survive. According to a nursing supervisor, he was in fair condition Wednesday night at the Loma Linda hospital, where he received a liver transplant Jan. 30.
The hospital is organizing a blood drive on LeBleu's behalf, Smith said. LeBleu needs either a marrow or stem cell transplant, the hospital said in a news release.
LeBleu of Lake Charles, La. served seven months in Iraq last year. His liver suddenly, inexplicably failed while he was at the Twentynine Palms base. He was treated at the base hospital there before being transferred to Loma Linda.
The day after the hospital and the Marines made a public plea for a donor, a liver came from Laralee (Brevig) Bergstrom, a 61-year-old Littleton, Colo., woman killed in a traffic accident outside Santa Fe, N.M.
While the liver is working, hospital officials said, LeBleu has required numerous blood transfusions.
While this story was written about Lance Corporal LeBleu, for us 62ers it's really about our own Laralee Brevig Bergstrom, who gave of herself even after death. She was always a very unselfish person and a true friend. (The story above has been shortened by me) Thanks Neil, for passing it along.

I guess I'd rather spend my time with real people like those on C'town. I was thinking that we should have our own bash called the "Cougar-Awards" but instead of you handing out "Oscars" They should be "Golden Cougar-Paws". I've got a couple of suggestions for the first of these awards...For Best all around Site Ever!...A Golden Cougar-Paw goes to...JB1! For Best Flan in the 1 inch by 1 inch category...The winner is, Dizzy Lizzy! For the Best 4 strand rounded Braid Lanyard... a Cougar Paw goes to...Kathleen Griffin! For the best Bone Crusher, The Golden Cougar-Paw goes to Joe Bell! The Best Golfer for the 2004 1st Aunnal Golf Tournament was...??? (John you'll need to fill that one in...) I'll bet others will have a bunch of other categories to add to this as well...Maybe this should happen every year at this time? Hi Dave, Sounds good. How about best music at a Cruise Night: And the Scarlet and Gold Cougar Fang goes to..... Walter Holt. OK, so I'm new at this. Anyone else?

Message: To the Crotty family, the Biermans send our sincerest condolences. If you all look very closely at the postings of remembrances, you'll note very often a classmate recalling an "episode" where a friend's parent is a major player. Usually, it was a life lesson, sometimes just a gentle thought or a kindness shown and always, the recall was of great significance to the storyteller. It was like that with all of us. Likely, when you're the parent of 4 kids, you surely had an impact on many others in the neighborhood or class of your kids. For us, the Harrison family stands out. Mom, Sharon and I just joined "Aunt Gerry" Harrison's surviving son Ronnie, Class of 1976, to spread her ashes. The Harrisons were Johnny 71, Donnie 74 and Ronnie. All of the family has passed now except Ronnie. My earliest memories in Hawthorne include them and saying goodbye to each has been difficult. My last silent thought to Aunt Gerry was to thank her for being a special part of our lives, an exceptional friend to mom and an "extra" mom to Steve, Sharon and me. Likely Mr. Crotty is remembered as well. Thank you to all of the Moms and Dads out there who guided and cared for us. You are loved and remembered.
Thanks to you too, Mom. I love you.
