Message: I'm saddened to report the passing of retired Hawthorne High School Principal Wally Nyman (Nyman Hall) last night. Services will be on Thursday, February 10 at 11 a.m. at the Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes Estates.
So sorry to hear this news. Wally Nyman was an institution in Hawthorne and Hawthorne High. He will be very much missed by all who were acquainted with him. I, and I know lots of early Cougars, send their heartfelt condolences to the Nyman family in this time of sorrow. He was a wonderful human being, and contributed much more than most realize to our Hawthorne community. For the next few days please only contribute your thoughts and stories on Mr Nyman. That's all that will be posted. Thanks Cougars....

Message: To all you compassionate, caring Cougars that will be at Cruise Night. I see that my sister, Debbie, will be there that night also. She just informed me she will be losing her job due to Delta Airlines closing their LA office. As she doesn?t want to move to Atlanta, (they only gave her three days and she would miss Cruise Night I?m sure is the only reason), she is seeking new employment. If anyone knows of a position that is compensative with her skills (oh heck, she has no skills but will do anything, he he), please bring along a job application. You might be able to help a poor down and out classmate. Either way, it sure sounds like this is turning into the best one yet. I wish I could be there. You all have a great time. I?ll be waiting for the pictures to be posted.
Hey Jer', wish you could make it too. It's going to be a fun one. And too, Good Luck Debbie, on finding a new job.

Message: I don't usually do this but I've been flooded with calls from people who are complaining that their computers have slowed to a crawl. Everything that I will do can be found at this website. I recommend using the Firefox Web Browser rather than Internet Explorer (for most of your web activities). I also recommend a Trilateral approach (Three different Spyware/adware removal programs) You can expect that one program will find no more than 55% of the spyware/adware that is on your system. All three programs are free and two can be found at this web site. The third (believe it or not) is a Microsoft product now being beta tested and you can download it for free from Microsoft's website. The URL to learn about why your computer suddenly came slamming to a crawl is here
If you don't feel comfortable enough to "do it yourself" then write to me at the ct_helpdesk address and I'll either come to your computer or walk you through this over the phone. We'll work it out.
Thanks and see you all at Cruise Night!

Thanks Kathleen, Spyware and Adware programs are out there, and if you'd like to get the best, in my opinion, go to www.stompsoft.com and download their Spyware Exterminator. It's about 25 bones and will rid your computer of everything. No more pop ups. Ask me, Harry Plotkin, Paco, my mom, and a few more. If you delete all the Spyware and Adware that has infilterated your computer, it'll run like new.

Message: Okay gang, I got everything I needed. Sharon Branigan turned me on to a Scout Shop that was just five minutes from my house (That's Sharon)! I even got the Hook thingies. So those of you who want to learn how to do the lanyards again, I will get you started. I have Red and Yellow and Sharon is bringing her other colors. Dan, bring the babies, there are enough of us Mom's and Nana's and Gramma's coming that you should have no problem at all. I'm bringing the Hippie, kids love him so come on down Dan and drown your sorrows (wife in maui) in a milkshake.
John, We will be driving the 68 Bonneville Convertable, the other two oldies are still in the restore shop.

OK Great...so now we'll have a Lanyard making table too. I want to learn that AGAIN as I once knew but forgot how, as I'm very old and senile. See you all on the 12th. This will be a good one folks, don't miss it.

It's funny how todays lawmakers think. No riding in trailers or back end of pickups, seatbelts, or locking kids in cars. I can remember going to Texas in the back of a Hudson Hornet. The Hudson had a wide package tray under the read window and that was my favorite place to ride when I was little. I could look up at the stars, not realizing that if my dad made a panic stop, I'd be a bug on the INSIDE of the windshield. Times have changed, that's for sure.

Message: Freebird? I was thinking more like "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" I hope I can make the cruise night -- for once you scheduled it when we don't have a Which One's Pink? show. Problem -- the wife is going to Maui leaving me to watch the 1 year old (problem) and the 5 year old (easy but not when you got to watch them both at the same time). I see JB has an invite out for parents and children but I'm not sure I can handle it, man.
Of course you can't Dan, You're not from the tough pioneering generation of the early 60's. Why we'd bring our kids and lock'em in the car for 4 hours. They have a great time in there pretending to drive and playing with the shifter. That's how we solved that babysitting dilemma.

Message: If anyone out there knows where I can find that lanyard plastic lace before cruise night please let me know. I cannot find it anywhere in San Pedro or Torrance. All I get is blank stares from the sales people at the craft stores so if anyone has a contact we need a roll of Scarlet and a Roll of Gold and maybe some of those hook thingies (the technical term you know) that you put your whistle or key on.
I've been busy cleaning computers of spy ware/adware so if anyone is waiting for me to contact them because their system is running too slow, I'm running a bit behind myself.
Enza, email me and I'll see what I can do to fix your problem.
Kathleen

Kathleen, Go here and maybe someone can steer you in the right direction.

Message: Hi there Cougars,
Thanks for the memories. I haven't thought about Doye O'Dell in years. He was a friend of my dad's and I went to his house several times. He was a very genuine and friendly guy. By the way, the junk mail thing isn't all that innocent. I recently became the victim of a malicious program that entered my computer. We believe it was from an unopened spam! The program set up an automatic dial for the internet and overrode my program. It was someplace in Africa and I was charged by the second. The phone company is asking for about 1300 dollars for the week it was active. I had to have my computer reformated, also at a cost. Anyway, beware! There are some real criminals out there that are willing to bleed anyone they can. The phone company here has made millions from this scam and, of course, they are unwilling to do anything about it. Good luck and immediately empty all spam. By the way, I understand that Mr. Nyman is in critical condition. Does anybody know any more about his situation? Take care, Jim Peppers

Thanks Jim, for checking in, First of all, your situation is NOT the norm, so Cougs, please don't panic.
No, there is no new word on Mr. Nyman's condition, but when I hear something I'll definitely post it.

Message: John, you may not want to post this on feedback so if you don't that's cool. I did have a thought. Is it possible for a BOT to hit feedback and get all the email address's from the feedback pages? I'm not sure how you have the feedback section set up so I just wanted to ask you personally. I know the Alumni email section is practically bullet proof for bots. I've been on other boards though where the bots actually were showing up as logged on and scanning for email messages. If it's possible for this to happen on feedback, we might want to drop the email part from the form?
Kathleen

Yes, it is possible for Bots to raid our email addresses on the Feedback Page. Although it's a little late now. If you leave an email address, just put an "AT" or "replace with @ sign" where the @ goes and you will be safe. Of course, once you're on a junk mail list, and we all are, it's all over. Don't panic folks, IT'S JUST JUNK MAIL and we all get it.

I was wondering does anyone else remember the go-kart races they used to put on in the streets of the industrial area of El Segundo. They were fun. Those carts went 100+ mph an inch off the ground. The laydown carts were the best. First prize was a Honda 50.
