Someone found a lighted house late one night
And he saw through the window a sight
A big man in a chair
And little tiny men everywhere......> Beach Boys

Andy Devine later became the old dude..Maybe the Buster Brown Show? FIGHT-ON!!!
PLUNK YOUR MAGIC TWANGER FROGGY!!! If it wasn't the Buster Brown show. I do remember a guy before Andy Devine but don't remember his name. Can someone else help?

Message: Yep, my mother was in love with Korla Pandit in the early 1950's. He would just look at the camera, while playing the organ and never utter a word. I did say hello to him at the old theater about 1991, after having a hamburger across the street from the theater. What was the name to the place I had the hamburger, I can't remember.
I'm wondering what the old theater is.

Message: Re earlier feedback: In his later years Korla Pandit was the organist of the mighty Wurlitzer Organ at the Old Tyme movie house in El Segundo and would stand outside after performances and shake hands with the departing audience. The Daily Breeze did his obituary a few years ago and said that during the course of his TV career he never uttered a word.
They didn't have "Talkie-TV" when he was on.

You mean the organ playing East Indian from the 50s, who had his own show back when there was almost less to watch on TV than there is now? I remember how he had the keyboards at a 90 degree angle and could play both at the same time. Being 6, I thought it was a magic show. I think his name was Pandit. Thanks BUG....

I agree, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a class together. Have a picnic, or meet at a local place. Just plan something and do it.

Yes, I did wear my Cougartown T-shirt and would show it around at the hotel but too cold to show it out on the Strip! (We need some jackets or Sweats; hint-hint.) Kathie and her aunt and uncle went to see Celine Dion. Kathie and I had a great time and after a few more hours of sleep we may think about going back. We stayed in Henderson very close to the Sunset Station (CT all class reunion #1). Have a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

He is a Master Bartender, a real professional. I also sat next to a lovely lady, Sonja, a Cougar as well. I didn't catch her last name or graduating year but I will find out soon. She is a massage therapist at Trilogy in Hermosa Beach. They will be checking in soon. Lots of us locals still hanging around down here in the Beach Cities.

Her neighbors son was visiting from up north and stopped in to say hi to my mother in law. After talking a few minutes I asked him if he had grown up in the area and he said yes he had gone to HHS. Well long story short his name is Ken Mc Allister class of 73 or 74 (I forget) I made sure to tell him about Cougartown but he already knows of it. Small world I guess. I also wanted to let Tammy from Redondo High know that my husband Mario remembers her from RUHS. Also who was it that posted something about Dr Holechek the dentist in Hawthorne? I worked there right after high school. Happy New Year everyone! Lori
Thanks Lori, Great story.....It is still a small Cougar world out there. Happy New Year to you and Mario....

Message: John, wondering if you can tell me what the red numbers are on the gold stars in the alumni list???
Good question, Rhonda.... The red numbers are how many years that person has been a member of Cougartown. Although some members back-pay their membership. As an example, if a person sends 20 dollars instead of the normal 10 dollar a year membership, I'd add an extra number to their star. If a person just has a star with no number, it could be that they just found Cougartown this year and joined, OR they joined once and have fled.
Hard to believe that Ctown has been around since 1997, but it has. Thanks.....

Message: Belated Merry Christmas to all. I?m still trying to come to grips with the tsunami. Just last week I was thinking about the Concert for Bengla Desh and the fact that George Harrison has come to the forefront again. That concert in 1971 was the first time I became aware that there really WAS suffering in other parts of the world (besides China, where my mom threatened to send my peas and brussels sprouts if I didn?t eat them) and that we really were blessed to live in the USA. Then it was not enough water now it?s too much. Unbelievable?.. Anybody remember Phyllis Smith? She lived across from Jackie Puckett (3 doors down from me) on 130th st. As long as I live I will never forget that sound we heard from two blocks away. It was on 130th and Inglewood Ave-. Around a quarter to midnight on Christmas Eve, seems like it was around 1969 or 70. A bunch of us were standing out under the street light eating sunflower seeds when we heard a loud crash. We ran up to see what it was. I remember watching as they worked like crazy to get a girl out of the passenger seat of that Mustang and into the ambulance, all the while performing CPR. We were all quite shaken as we walked back home, knowing that whoever she was, she probably didn?t make it. It wasn?t until the next morning that we found out that it was Phyllis. She and a friend were on their way to Midnight Mass at Holy Joe's. They were making a left-hand turn to go north on IA when a drunk driver ran the light and broadsided their car. She was such a sweet person. If I remember correctly, she had found out just a couple days before that she had made the Flag squad. I just remember how excited she was. Then, just like that, she was gone.
Every Christmas Eve since then around 11:45 PM I take a moment to remember Phyllis, her friend (I think her name starts with a C), and that drunk driver. And I thank God that this is NOT the end of the road. We will ALL live on after we lay this body down. God?s will IS being done on earth as it is in heaven. In this time, one of the darkest in human history, may God use us all as instruments of His peace.
Blessings to you all

Hey John, I'm STILL sending my Brussel Sprouts to China everytime they come home from Mom's after a holiday celebration. Sorry you had to find out like this Mom, but think about it.....you've been keeping a Chinaman alive for the last 40 years.

Now I know they aren't coming from the members themselves, but from an infected computer that has those addresses in their address book. I urge everyone here to get the latest updates to their anti-virus programs and scan their computers. Message: (An excuse) I've been so busy during this Holiday Season I haven't looked here for some time. I was happy to see so many comments about Christmas and the weird store CEO's being told to cancel credit cards because that store doesn't "recognize Christmas." Bah, Humbug to you as well, Macy's. Anyway, I wanted to mention the fact that one Christmas Season (in the early '60's)the city of Hawthorne opted to run free shuttle tram(s) along the Boulevards center parking area from Imperial to Rosecrans, back & forth for shoppers convenience. I rode it just for the heck of it one afternoon. The following years never saw the thing again. (This was when Hawthorne had the longest parking lot in the U.S.--nearly 2 miles long in the middle of the street). Now, thats all changed, reworked & renovated. My Dad & I went to the parade the year Dwight Eisenhower was the Grand Marshal. We got up early and caught a special L.A. Transit Lines bus direct from Hawthorne & Broadway to the parade. Then, because I wanted a better look at Eisenhower I ran along the route to see him again/better and then was seperated from my Dad and wound up riding home to Hawthorne on different buses. I think there's too much carbon monoxide along the route BEFORE the parade to enjoy sitting out there all night and being poisoned by the roaring hot-rods etc. I know some of you will disagree but, have a wonderful & SAFE New Year anyway.
I love the smell of Leaded Ethyl in the morning. Thanks Jim...
