Message: I had a near-miss Cougar sighting. Yesterday I was NOT in my office but Jeff Pieters, HHS 73 came by and dropped a note to say hello. He is the one who introduced me to CT in October 1998 - he worked for FedEx and happened through my building one day and saw me. He returned later to share the CT address and the rest is history. Thanks again Jeff, and I am so sorry to have missed you. It seems you have moved back to California from your adventure in the midwest but not near me so your visit would have been a treat. I hope you stop by again!

For those complaining about the heat... when I drove home at 5pm a few evenings a couple of weeks ago, it was 121-123 degrees == so stop your complaining. I live across the river from Laughlin where the reunion is going to be held and rest assured that the month of October is one of the nicest months for weather here -- it will be in the 80-90's - so not to worry. I plan to attend the reunion along with my still best buddy - Karen (Zirbel) Pray. See you there...

Thank you Cindy.... it is appreciated

Message: Sorry about the heat. Last night we had rain and lightening, figures, since I just washed my car on Friday! My first air conditioner in a car was the old reliable 4/60, four windows down going 60 mph. that is how I drove my parents 1968 Toyota Corona. I did not get a car equipped with a/c until I bought my 1987 Subaru, back then I lived out in Lake Perris, and it was hot, hot, hot. Have not been able to drive a car without a/c that is how old and cranky I've become.

Message: Ok, it's so hot here I'm dying for a house air conditioner. I was thinking how nice we (or most of us) have air conditioner's in our cars and was wondering what is was like for you young folks(class of 50's and 60's) getting a car that came with an Air Conditioner since it was new in the market. If one had one, did he or she got asked more to ride along on a hot summer day? And what were the more likely vehicle that had one? Mustang... Impala's... Firebirds...etc???
I bought a used 77 El Camino in 1982; my FIRST car with air conditioning.

Message: Pat Underwood, I was so sorry to hear about "Peggy". How right you are treat every day better than the last. My husband and I are in Reno right now, (he is working) and while we were out on Saturday, I wore my TShirt. While again, I did not have a siting, I was so proud just looking around at thinking of the possibility of connecting with someone from my past. My Tshirt is the best $23 I have spent and John your website is right on the top of my list along with the Vietnam Wall's website. There I have connected with other soldiers that knew my brother and some that didn't and just want to talk. Even though I didn't graduate from HHS, (I left after my sophmore year), every childhood memory that I have is centered in Hawthorne! Happy or Sad they are memories and John your hard work and dedication have made so much possible for us.
xo Have a wonderful week Cougs. Jan

Thank you Jan and I know there are many others who feel the same way about Hawthorne California as you.

Message: I remember my high school sweetheart (Peggy) and the memories are wonderful. We lost contact for 30 years but I can still remember holding her in my arms the sweet taste of her lips on mine. We teased each other the last few years and we smiled about our past. She became a minister and married and her husband became a minister also. Last month she was diagnosed with cancer and she died Friday morning (July 25, 2003). If you think about it we really don?t have that much time here on Earth and to be cut short like she was really isn?t fair. I miss her already.

Message: Last weekend Donna Cook Wright had a sighting but he wasn't a Cougar. She had to drive down to Solana Beach to sign loan docks for some guy named Don. It was dark and the road she had to take wasn't lit. It took some doing but she finally found it. She said it looked like a friggin' hotel. It was huge and beautiful and had a view of the world from the front drive. She sat with the husband and wife for over thirty minutes chatting and explaining the paper work. Just about the time she was finished she took a look at the couples W2 to see what this guy did for a living. He was obviously quite successful at it. It said, "race car driver" under occupation. The man's name was Don Prudhomme. I just thought some of you motorheads would get a rise out of that.

I had the opportunity to see him in concert several times and for free.....I managed customer service for Wards at the time and that included Ticketron...they were pretty generous with comp tickets. I was able to take my daughters to a concert and at one point, one took off running for the stage saying "I just want to touch him!" She still gets kidded about that adventure and the grandkids all love that story. I'm just lucky I didn't lose her in the crowd at the time.
Yep, there was a whole lotta touchin' goin' on at Elvis concerts, all right. I kinda wanted to touch him my own self......well not in THAT way you understand....uhhhh, how bout those Dodgers......

Message: Stephen Colet: What was your reference to Taj Mahal and Hula Blues all about? Cause I just saw them in concert on July 12 here in Washington at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Keola Beamer played with them - which really was our only reason for going since my fiancee grew up in Hawaii down the street from the Beamer family. He's always liked his music. The concert was his birthday present. But Taj Mahal was great! Outdoor stage, sitting on the grass... felt kinda 70's! Even had small children dancing through the crowd with sparkly things on their heads.

Kennedy was promoting health, Fred Widlund [65] and I did a fifty mile walk one day [I really mean day] thing is, no one ever new it. Our legs did though.

Message: Hi Cougars, Elvis stories! My father was one of the writers for one of Elvis' first hits. The song sort of rode along with "Heartbreak Hotel" as it was the other side of the single and was called "I Was the One". However, the song did have a life and reputation of its own, too. My sisters, Sandy and Sherry, both met Elvis when he was in town on a concert tour. They went back stage and Sandy still has his autographed picture in her office. I didn't go to meet him because I thought he was just for girls. Anyway, that's MY Elvis story. Fun summer to everyone, Jim Peppers

Larry Drager 58, Kathy Barnes 61, Joe Bell 59, Ron Householder 59, Eugene Obillo 62, and John Hagethorn 60 have said they will attend. Message: Joe Brown - The place you're thinking of was definitely Kiddieland. I remember taking my birthday party guests there a time or two when I was a kid. My folks still have some 8mm movies of us there - I could probably get them transferred to digital and maybe John might be interested in posting them on this site since there's probably other pre-Cougars in there (on the other hand, maybe not, since they would take up a lot of disk space). Anyway, all I remember about the place was that there was a small Ferris Wheel on the northeast corner, a merry-go-round in the middle, and a roller coaster at the south end near the teardrop trailers. The coaster was my first, and as of last summer, I've moved it up to Goliath. Whoaaa - nice first drop!
You forgot my favorite, "The Octopus". I've mentioned this before, but back in my day ride tickets were 10 cents each or 12 for a dollar. A dollars worth of Octopus rides was my choice as that thing was nearest to a THRILL ride that Rockwell Kiddieland had.
