Message: I've been trying to think of something very original and festive to add for my Christmas post, but doggone! My original thinking has gone out the window ... or quite possibly has frozen along with everything else hereabout! Christmas has a way of making us ALL a bit sentimental and God only knows, I sure don't need any help in THAT department! ha! So suffice it to say, let's try to remember in the midst all the hustle and bustle that has become a given in this holiday season, why there IS a CHRISTmas and thank God for the blessing of ALL blessings. And we ALL, every last one of us, have so many things to be thankful for. Not the least of which is our own John Baker and this medium he has provided to us for our enjoyment, enabling us to stay in touch, make wonderful new friends, and become one big HHS family. Thank you John ... from the bottom of my heart! Peace and love to all. doris
Thank YOU Doris for being a part of the Cougartown family. You're a very special person and a credit to the pre-60's Cougs everywhere. You and your family have a great Holiday Season and try to keep warm up there in Twin Falls.

Message: Mele Kalikimaka to all! You know Hawaii is alot like having Christmas anywhere else. We had the closest thing to a white christmas here the waves were so big when they closed out the water just turns white. We have very white sand here so that looks alot like snow too. Palm trees make great Christmas trees and when you lay on the beach at night and look up through the palm tree, you can see all the stars in the sky so you don't need Christmas tree lights. There are so many fat locals here they could all easily play Santa without using any padding. Instead of going to the grocery store to buy your ham all packaged and with preservatives you just go to the country and catch your own pig and throw him in a pit for about 10 hours. So as you can see Hawaii is alot like having Christmas anywhere. Just it is 85 degrees here and instead of playing in the snow you go diving or surfing.
Mele Kalikimaka, there Keith.....

Message: HHS (Health, Happiness & Success) to all in Cougartown! May your holidays be Merry and White. Best wishes of prosperity to all in 2003. A special holiday wish to you John for all you do to make every day seem like Xmas as I open my browser to CT to see the gifts that this site brings. Everyone have a safe and somewhat sane holiday.
Ahhh shucks Bob, I feel the same way about all the Ctowners that spill out onto my computer, every day. Originally, this was to find MY old friends, but has turned into so much more. I've met hundreds of Cougars and teachers from so many different classes. Many have become very good friends over the past few years. I have to thank the good Lord for bringing you all into my life and for bringing together hundreds more old friends who frankly would've never had any communication after their HHS days. We are all family, whether we like it or not. We were very lucky to start out life in Hawthorne CA. and attend Hawthorne schools, especially HHS.

Message: Greetings John, et al-
Balch's WAS on Vermont. They had great tow trucks. I spotted them all over the southwest.
To all my former students who read Cougartown Feedback and all my new HHS Alumni friends(and you ARE GREAT) I wish you the greatest of holidays. Stay safe and count your blessings.
Love to all, HCH

The local police didn't like the way my 58 Chevy was parked one day in the mid 60's, so they had it towed, and it ended up at Balch's Garage. I went to pick it up and pay the exorbitant $1.50 a day fee. I talked to a man who gave me the bill and the keys and all. This was long after my quarter midget days, but I asked him if he was Mr. Balch and he said yes. I told him I was an ex-quarter midget racer and that was all it took. We proceeded to talk about our quarter midget days, and he showed me lots of memorabilia like blown engines, and carburetors, and I remember he even showed me a make-shift dynomometer he had built for estimating engine horsepower. We must have talked for 2 hours about people we knew and tracks we'd raced. Anyway, I left there with a new friend and thought at that time, he had to be one helluva GREAT DAD.

Message: Wishing all Super Class Cougars a very Merry Christmas. Enza,Enza,Enza, there is no joy in Lakerville. JB the classic pics you come up with are just that, classic. I sincerely hope we all have a warm holiday season and everyone can experience the joy of giving from their hearts. My youngest son, Garrett, 7, selected our family tree this year. Can you say Charlie Brown? He said nobody else would take this tree and he felt it "belonged in our home for Christmas". He was right, the tree looks great decorated. This is what means the most at this time of the year. Kids. I used to work at Harry Joseph's tree lot from '69-'73. Great memories of people buying trees and the faces of excitment on kids when they'd have their tree tied to the top of the car going home. Merry Christmas to all!!!!
Well said, Wade. Merry Christmas to you and your family and a special Merry Christmas to all the kids out there.

Message: My senior ring looks alot like the one on e-bay except smaller of course. My husband, who was my boyfriend in my senior year, lost my ring and had to buy a new one. If memory serves me right he paid $10.00 for the replacement. As far as towns changing if you drive down Main st. in El Segundo today it looks a lot like it did in the 50's except the trees are bigger. But I agree most older towns do get run down and everyone moves to the newer places. Garden Grove has a short old Main street that has worked hard to keep the old charm but it is only a block long. There are even a couple of old time shops still run by the same families that have been there many years.
I spent many hours shopping on Market street and saw it a couple of years ago after about 35 years, boy what a shock that was.

Message: John, that picture did jog some memories. It is Inglewood isn't it? I also remember Carls shoes. I ate a few lunches at Woolworths. Inglewood doesn't look like that anymore. I'm wondering if that is Lerner Shops between Kress and Woolworth.
Yes, it's the SW corner of Manchester and Market in what used to be "Beautiful Downtown Inglewood".
It's a picture of another time in history, about a half century ago. I personally believe I could hang this picture in what was then, the C.H. Baker shoe store window and ask the question of passers-by, "Where was this picture taken?" and would get an "I don't know." from 99 percent of the public. Does all the country turn over in 40 to 50 years?......I don't know, but I would hate to think it does.

BTW, JB, love the graph on the alumni list.

I don't remember a Hal Parker but I don't remember where I parked the car, either.
The only Parker I remember was Nancy Parker and the only "HP" listed in the 62 El Molino is Harry Phillip.
Thanks Sharon, for the detective work.
Also, about the graph. I get lots of email on which class has the most people signed up on the alumni list, or which class has the most members, so I thought I'd do a graph. Now we know how the alumni list looks, as a whole.
