Message: Terrible Herbst is still going strong out here and growing rapidly. There's a Terrible Station on every other corner in Vegas, and they've got several Casinos, including a new one up in Pahrump. There's 2 Terrible's in Havasu, one here in Parker, and they're building a new complex in Searchlight. The Herbst boys are friends of mine, and long time desert/Off-road racers.
Thanks for the update, Alan. I wondered if they were still around.

Message: Hi everyone! Haven't been here in a long time. Spring is my busiest time of year with art shows etc. I wanted to remind everyone that my Academy of Animation and Digital Art at Mayfair High School is hosting a classic car show on Sunday, August 18 from 10-3. The school is located in Lakewood at 6000 N. Woodruff. There is vendor space at $25.00 and to show your beautiful classic cars the price is only $10.00. We're going to have raffles, T-shirts, plaques for winners and a guaranteed lots of fun. My students are great and we really need the money. To register you can get in touch with Carol Meckel at 562-920-2454 or for more information her email is Iamcaster@aol.com. We've been posting info everywhere including Driver's magazine. If your company would like to make a donation, that would be terrific. We've already received some great raffle gifts from companies.
And John, time does fly when you're having a good time!

Hi Ricki, Good to hear from you. I will definitely try and make the show. It's just around the corner from Mike's house so I'll drag him along too. Thanks for the info....

Both of them were....forget it this going to get ridiculous.

Message: I certainly remember the Gas Bah. They had a station on Hawthorne Blvd. and one on Imperial Hwy. I worked for a lumber yard and took the trucks there to fill them. Got coupons and in 1954 I did all of my Christmas shopping at the Gas Bah with coupons. Such a deal. They had a small showroom with all of the merchandise that could be exchanged for the coupons. Made out like a bandit as the lumber trucks held about 80 gallons apiece.
Hi Denny, Sounds like a great perc and speaking of gas stations, does anyone remember Terrible Herbst gas stations? I think there was one in Barstow and one in Mojave. BTW, thanks for the software and if you need a ride tomorrow, let me know.

Message: Do any of you guys remember the blue chips stamp? I remember when we used to get them at the Boys Market. During the summer months my brother and I would affix the big stamps on the edge of the booklet and the small stamps on the whole face of the pages. Once we turned in our booklets for an alarm clock. We always dreamed of getting enough for a bike, but we were too impatient to collect and paste them all. I also remember getting plates and glasses whenever we filled up a tank of gas. Of course that's when all gas stations had full service. Now all we get is a piece of paper that looks like it's giving us a raspberry for paying too much!! What were some of the things that you guys remember getting with blue chips stamps or what do you guys remember getting for a tank of gas?
AHHH MARIA!!! Great question and great feedback. Actually I remember Blue Chip Stamps, but the predecessor to them were S&H Green Stamps. I don't remember getting anything with them, but do remember saving and licking. I also remember Blue Chip bowling night. Does anyone else have Blue Chip or gas station giveaway memories?? How about Raleigh Coupons?? Thanks Maria....

Message: Hi John, I was passing through and saw the piece on the Reagan couples grandchild. Nice.
Just thought I'd point out that if Vicki had gone to school with Steve Martin she would have graduated from Garden Grove High School. HOME OF THE ARGONAUTS. Much like H.H.S., "Grove" has a rich and colorful history. It was the first H.S. in the city, built in the early twenties, I believe. I went to G.G.H.S. in the late 70's. We had a museum in Heritage Hall and Steve Martin was a big part of it. It was pretty cool. He's a genius.
Vickie is guilty by association it seems, just like myself! Vicki married into Cougarhood. I was born into it (Peggy Peters '61 Mary Jo '66).
Lucky Us!
Have a great summer Cougars. Take care John.
Doug Medina "Wannabe Coug"

Hey Doug, Haven't heard from you in a while. Yes, Vicki was an Argonaut or an Astronaut or whatever they're called (pretty much the only thing about her I don't like ). Just kidding VICKI!!
If they've been around long enough, most high schools have something they can be proud of or stand behind, and I'm not just talking famous people. Garfield High had Jaime Escalante and the Calculus Kids. I guess the point is, it doesn't matter where you got your education, "Be True To Your School". Hey, that might make a good song title.

Message: I found my first love thru CT last week. We have spent hours on the phone catching up with each other's lives. He mentioned 35 years ago and I couldn't believe it. It feels like just yesterday. I think God made our perception of time diminish so we don't realize the years are passing as fast as they are and I think he made our eyesight fade so we can't see the grey hairs and wrinkles. I still feel like I'm in my twenties, but the calendar this year put me in the big league numbers. BTW, thank you Don for taking the time to take pics of my house on 122nd st, Trinity School and HHS.

Paco and Sharon, Larry and Loretta and if I'm not mistaken John and Cheryl Nicocia. Congrats to all of you. JUDE and I as well will be celebrating our 41st on June 17 th. Who would have thunk it? Now to all you Sacramento Sacks rooters (what is their nickname anyway? Oh kings. Should be Queens) LAKERS RULE!!!
