Message: I fully agree with George Key. "Operation Dear Abby", whereby people could send mail to any serviceman or woman stationed overseas, has been cancelled this year for security reasons. For the past 13 years, this mail from many thousands of American citizens has brought a little bit of home and uplifting messages to our Armed Forces heroes...this year that cannot happen. George, if you read this, can you suggest an alternative? Is there some way you all could set up a special email address or 2 so that we could bombard with messages of hope and encouragement to be distributed around the ship? Please know that you are thought of and appreciated...GREATLY!

Message: That would be Steve Grady now the football coach at Loyola High School. The next year it would have been Wilson Bowie. Grady also played safety and never really played too much offense, let's see OJ or Grady? McKay didn't have to be a genius afterall did he? When OJ went to San Francisco JC they originally wanted to make him a pulling guard because he was so fast and big. Now there was a genius.
YES!! You are correct, sir. Steve Grady was the answer. John, Tell him what he's won. Thank you John......Jim, you win a weeks stay at the beautiful Hyperion Beach Campground at Playa del Rey, CA. Please bring a clothespin for your nose and your own cot. Back to you John....

Message: Yep, he always had a real 'slashing' style of running,if you recall. He just let Al Cowlings lead the way and left the defense bloody and motionless in his wake. The Cal coach later stated that O.J. had singlehandedly murdered the defense. O.J. said he was elsewhere that weekend and didn't play, didn't do it. 80,000 fans must have mistaken someone else for him.
You left out the fact that he could cut with the best of running backs and would knife through the line like a meat cleaver through a shoulder cut. Yes sir, he could carve up a defense like Paul Prudhomme through a Pot Roast, and take the heart right out of his opponents. If he had his game face on you better call 911 cause he'd turn you into hamburger in no time at all.
TRIVIA TIME: Who was OJ's backup tailback in 1967? (Sloey, do you know this one?)

Remembering how lonesome it was at holiday time when in WWII I was in china and missed two Christmases I would encourage all of us to send a snowstorm of messages on CT to Ron to let him know his Cougar family thinks of him at this time and honors what he is doing to make the word safer for all of us.
Great idea George, These guys are not only on "our side", but are Cougars. Let's let them hear from us.

Message: I obviously didn't know Doc was Pacos' father either. Thanks. Gotta chime in on A.D. and Ricky Bell etc. The first game my dad ever took me to was SC vs.Cal. at the Coliseum in 1968. Of course, SC whooped em. There was and is not anything like those SC teams in the 70s. Anthony Davis, Sam Cunningham, Ricky Bell, Charlie White, Marcus Allen, Dennis Smith, Ronnie Lott, Anthony Munoz. I'll stop there. I'll put the Hawthorne connection in to SC here. Don't forget the current and very successful head baseball coach at SC is HHS grad Mike Gillespie. Now to current postings and JB e-mail-...Gee John, it doesn't sound like barefoot and pregnant was part of the old Hawthorne experience, does it?
ALL RIGHT LARRY, another Southern Cal fan. OJ must've really "carved up" Cal in 68.

Message: Haven’t said a word all season, but ladies, show the respect the politically incorrect BCS does not. Our web footed “zeros” were 3 lousy forth quarter minutes and two freak blocked punts away from a perfect season. Let's talk about the baby blue bombers that just can't seem to scratch up the pennies to attend a bowl (how rude and with a little coaching they could have been #2). If their destination was Tempe Az., you would be hearing hare rama U rama C rama L rama A in the terminals of L.A.X......John the 26 pics are tugging on my heart strings. Descending the stairs with my 8'8" Bing bouncing on my head (I was 4'4"), I can feel the cool breeze of the early morning salt air on my face. Thanks dude!
It seems I have to take about 60 pictures to get 2 or 3 to turn out. Thank God for digitals. Glad too that it shook your meninges. (Can you say that on the Internet?)

Message: John, I would like to know what kind of camera you have to take such beautiful clear pictures? The one of 26th Street at 6:00am should get a prize. We were at my brothers the other night talking about memories and CT and the beach. I said what I wouldn't give to be on the beach at 26th Street. Well he made some comment that didn't go over with me. Something about you can't live in the past. I can't say too much as he may be reading this but I may go to Florida one day and visit their beach or any other beach, but 26th St. will always be my home beach!!!!! Gosh, the last time I was there 2 years ago I could only stay a half hr. We were there for my reunion and we just had a few days. Well in those few days we had to go between my younger brothers house and my bro. in laws. There was NO time for us. Now I can't wait until my husband gets retired and we can travel and go where we want when we want. For now we have to keep on working so we can do this one day.
Linda, It's not living in the past to awaken the memories of places we loved as kids. I sure wouldn't want to be back there now, but do like to stir the old memory cells. It's nice to know others feel the same.

Message: 5 CORNERS; Yeah hanging out at Five Corners in Hermosa Beach on Friday and Saturday nights. That was a mid and late sixties thing. 22nd Street, Hermosa Beach. Waves broke good back then. 26th Street was a great hangout but Hermosa had the waves back then. And we produced some of the top surfers back then. Also cruising the Strand on a bike during the summer. Girls, parties, girls, standing out side of a liquor store trying to get some adult to purchase some beer for the night. Surfing Hagertys, Break Water, the Cove, Huntigton Beach, Oil Pier, Topaz, Trestals if the Marine MPs didn't catch you. But I have to admit that 26 was a great place to catch a few waves in the morning before school. But then again Hermosa had Taco Bills, The Surfboarder, Poop Deck, Critters, Lighthouse and girls and parties.

Message: HEY, BACK OFF of my '74 BUDS, John boy!!!!
You 60's crowd send enough feedback that should be email. Bud has never even written in before - you go boy!! My best friend Jill was married to Bob James, the guitarist for Montrose. Their son, Brendan has his own group now in Santa Barbara and I've been forwarding the reminences of Montrose to Jill. So, I guess I was a closet reader of the feedback exchange between Bud and Dan. Hurrumph.

Thank you Patty, but Bud doesn't need a class of 74 "skirt" jumping in to protect him from the evil 60's crowd. He's a big boy now. You go on back in the kitchen and bake a Christmas cookie like a good Girl Scout and we'll call you when we need a present wrapped or something important like that.
The Bob James I know plays the piano. Is Boney James, Bob James's brother? I know a guy who once won an autographed "Sammy Hagar" Firebird.

Message: Just wanted to ask Keith Jones or anyone that may know what ever happened to the gentleman that ran Doc's. I believe it was on 133rd or 134th St. between La Cienega and Ocean Gate. I recall guys that went in there big and came out huge (like Jones, Morlock, Kukuk, Collins). Also, does anyone remember the Perahia brothers that had the Plymouth Cuda (Highway Star) and Fury hot rod/show cars? Wasn't Josh Perahia a bass player? Although I don't think he played with Montrose or Chuck Berry. Adios.
Hey Larry, The gentleman who ran Doc's was Doc Duran, our own Howard "Paco's Pics" Duran's father.

On "It's A Beautiful Day" -- sorry Jill, I don't know anything on the market for vintage vinyl. However, there is a famous store that just opened a branch in Hollywood called "Amoeba Records" that says they'll buy your used vinyl. Maybe they'll give you a quote over the phone.
