Message: The BIG NIGHT is getting close! Can't wait to see everyone at the Prom. What a surprise to see Tim Helble's post. I remember what a little cutey you were! Thought I would bring you and everyone else in CT that knows Jaye Lyn up to date on her doings. She will not be at the Prom as she will be in the Denver area attending the wedding reception of her son Matt who recently married in Jamaica. Jaye Lyn Martin now lives in Kernville, CA, and teaches art at the local community college, the senior center and teaches privately. She has recently completed a mural on the side of the high school there depicting historic events of the area. She has also been commissioned by a local historic landmark inn to restore 100 sculptures of western figures (similar to Remington and Russell) that have been decorating the inside of the bar for 200 years. Each sculpture is heavily insured by Lloyds of London. Yes, I believe your parent's $45 painting has appreciated considerably. Jaye Lyn is an extraordinary artist--another in the long list of great Cougars! I will pass Tim's message on as Jaye Lyn doesn't have e mail. What a neat memory--you obviously recovered very well, Tim!

Message: There was a message a while back from Maurine White about memories of playing in local vacant lots. She mentioned some of the fun things she did with Jaye Lyn Stonbraker, and that name triggered some memories with me. For my brother Dan and I, Jaye Lyn was our favorite babysitter when we were wee tykes. We remember all the crazy games she used to play to keep us amused and out of trouble. I also remember how Jaye Lyn was quite a talented artist, and how my folks commissioned her to do a painting for our living room. According to my folks, it was Jaye Lyn's first commissioned work - and they agreed ahead of time on a price of $45. The painting was of a scenic European town on a lake, and the story is that Jaye Lyn was reluctant to part with it when it was finished because it turned out so well. But a deal was a deal, and my folks still have it in my dad's study behind me as I write.
My mother filled me in on an important tie-in with Maurine also. Right after I turned one (Feb. 56), I picked up some kind of virus and couldn't "keep anything down" for several days They were about to put me in the hospital. The doctor finally figured out an approach for gradually getting food into me and back to health, but the doctor said I couldn't spend any time in the church nursery until summer. Well, my mom wanted to go to church to participate in various activities and Jaye Lyn couldn't take care of me because she was also active in the church, so my folks hired Maurine to take care of me. So part of the Sunday morning routine for 3 or 4 months was to drive over from Holly Glen to pick up Maurine and bring her back to take care of me while everyone else went up to church in Inglewood. Just found all this out after my mom saw Maurine's message. It's a little late, but thanks Maurine! - and thanks John for maintaining this great Web page for helping Cougs to stay connected. Seems like Cougs really do look out for each other.
By the way, the 70-73 reunion was tons of fun. Thanks to Kim and Terri and everyone else who did all the hard prep work. Even though the class of 73 turnout was a bit low, I had a great time reconnecting with old friends. Hope everyone has a great time at the multiclass prom this weekend - I have to fly back to do my tiny bit to keep the gov't running.
Great Story Tim, It's amazing what the Internet turns up. If it wasn't for the Net, these lives would play out and none of the participants would ever know how the other turned out. I'm sure Jaye Lyn, along with Maurine, will get a charge out of this one for sure. Thanks again Tim for sharing your story, and I'm sure that 45 dollar painting is now priceless.

Message: Hey John,
I think that I found out what Gary Nelson is doing instead of the Prom. On the same day as the Prom out east near motown there is the Woodward Dream Cruise http://woodwarddreamcruise.com/. It is a one-day event for hotrods, muscle cars and vehicles that create a feeling of nostalgia. I think that Gary has entered his old ’01 Vette into the nostalgia class. That old thing has some great memories crusin’ down Itchy Acres Road in Granite Bay. Motown expects about 30,000 cars to turn out. I think that the event must be sponsored by some oil companies. It would take more than one just to keep the cars in fuel…
I’m look’n forward to the Prom!
I don't think Gary's going to Detroit, but I'll bet he's hangin' at some car function this weekend.

More thanks go to Mo Trott who's been handling just about everything from paper work to badges; just anything that Judy throws her way. Thanks for being there Mo.
Thanks to Janet Burkett for setting up the food for Saturday night. It's an epicurian delight and I know you'll all enjoy it.
To Joyce Savisky Chance for the table decorations, and to the Jensens, Bob and Bill, and to Larry Wetter for all the memorabilia.
