Why not just buy your tickets now and quit blowing your money on such evils as "lottery tickets, cheap wine, The Star or Enquirer, clothes that are too tight, calorie loaded desserts. " Hey wait..that's me, not you... never mind.. Now.. look into my eyes.. you're getting sleepy. Very sleepy.. now go to your desk and make out your check... (how's that John..) LOL Now that I have taught him how to cut the grass, wash the dishes, cook the dinner, do the laundry, wash the windows, vacuum the rugs, and dust, life is a perfect. {more time to talk to my friends} What a guy? The training was hard, but the end result is soooooo sweet. At the top of feedback, click on alumni list, go to 68/69 and everybodys e-mail is there.

Message: Just thought I'd check in on the subject of favorite teachers... There are actually 3 that I hold in the highest regard, and all for different reasons. Hal Chauncey was the hardnosed yet softhearted P.E. coach and friend to a lot of us who passed through his classes. He worked some of the "fresh" out of we freshmen, and prepared us for tougher challenges. Mr. Fred Morgan, who was an institution in and of himself at HHS. It was he who forced me to be a more disciplined musician, and even today as I teach and perform, his lessons are still coming through. Mr. Neil Minami, who came to HHS in 1969, and wasn't a whole lot older than his students at the time. Mr. Minami understood the angst that some of us had about approaching "draft age" during the Viet Nam era. As I look back, there was something comforting about being in the presence of these 3 teachers/mentors. I wish them all well, and will never forget them...
Definitely 3 HHS Icons, Bob, thanks for your favorite teacher input.

I hated getting up so early to grade papers so I needles to say I missed ALLOT of my first period. Mr. Stucker being the person he was said he would fail me if I didn't come in on a regular basis. So we made a bet that I couldn't last for 1 month without missing. Well, I missed and had to pay him $20! He was so serious about me paying up that if I didn't he would of failed me and then I couldn't graduate with my class. I srambled to get the $20 without telling my parents and I graduated by the skin of my teeth. I really think he would of failed me if I didn't pay up. (jerk) Oh well, I can laugh about it now! Great to see the 70's clan in here :}

Our photographer will be taking head shots (bust shots) for our memory book..(like the ones you've seen in the past for reunion booklets) but they will also offer a full body shot of you and your buddies/gal friends.. date/spouse, (up to 6 people per buddy shot) if you'd like..at an additional cost to you. You will also be able purchase your choice of your favorite pictures in several sizes just by filling out an appropriate reorder form.. The photographer will help you with your choices when he snaps your pic, and they will be happy to answer any further questions there.... And don't forget that we'll have our video people there to capture the whole evening on tape..and offering those after the event.. you should expect to see a video order form mailed to you after PROM NIGHT... Now, I'm going out to the mailbox in my PROM DRESS and see what shows up today.. (I wonder why the men that walk by keep offering me 20 bucks.)

Message: Re: FAVORITE TEACHERS:
I think Bob Atkins may've been my favorite teacher at HHS - his Creative Writing class was fun and instructional - he was always open to new things and critiqued without tearing apart. And he brought me to meet my writing idol, Ray Bradbury - I can't tell you how cool that was!
Miss Crum (who I understand is now Mrs. Hoy!) was also a great teacher, someone who understood that there was more to teaching than simply reciting facts for us to learn. She took great interest in her student's work.
I enjoyed Pat "Madman" Macha's enthusiasm for his subject matter, and I think he carried along a good amount of the class with that alone.
Mike Sloan was a good choice in Modern Media. He was always willing to let the students try things, and fail, on their own, so they could actually learn as they went along.
Mr. Clayton helped me along with my artwork by never imposing his sensibilities onto my work, but by helping me to achieve more clearly what I was after (and his week-long classical music playing except for Fridays, when the class was allowed to bring in their own music; that actually opened me up to a lot of music I would've never heard - so it was an Art Class *along* with a Musical Appreciation Class - two for the price of one!).
I enjoyed Mr. Clayool in Drafting for 3 years (Gads - did I really take Drafting for *three* years??!!) - the discipline I learned there helped me with my artwork.
I enjoyed the first three years of High School very much and maintained an A average throughout, but, to be truthful, had pretty much lost interest in *all* subjects my senior year and had wanted nothing more than to be done with school. My attitude that last year was not the best, to be sure, but the production of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," which my friend Chris Sanford and I tried out for on a lark, turned out to have rather lasting ramifications - my ending up in Community Theatre as actor, set-designer, and director for over ten years out here in Roswell - so I can't really regret it too much (and my wife always says she loves to see me up on stage, so I can thank Mr. Fix for that, as well). Overall, I have to say that, Yes, I did have good teachers while at HHS, even when I wasn't necessarily in the right frame of mind to appreciate them. (Mr. Pappo, though, now *that's* another story!) ;-D

All right Lyle, I think there was always one.

Message: Susan...Thanks for confirming my story that is was indeed "Konnie" Krislock who led the students on that cause. As for Mr. Key and Mrs. Krislock, I am sure that they do have different perspectives on what really happened, and you're right, they would probably laugh about it, and probably did. One thing about Mr. Key, he was a low "key" principal (Pardon the play on words). Now for you Lyle, I must disagree with your take on the teachers. For the most part, they were pretty cool for teachers. My two favorites were Mr. Goodfellow (I could get lost in those blue eyes forever) and of course Mrs. Krislock. I was sorry to hear of Mr. Goodfellow's passing. Of course we had characters such as Mr. Courtney and Mr. Fix, and don't forget the "studs" Mr. Stucker, and Mr. Fetherston. Enough of this, I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Message: RE: The Great Student/Teacher Protest of '77. I *never* knew what the bone of contention was, didn't really care, thought that the whole thing was a hoot, with Bob Deuel out there with the megaphone being as damn serious as he could be and crowds of students milling around, trying to also look like they were caught up in the surge of righteous indignation over....something-or-other! The *last* thing any of us cared about was whether the teachers were being treated rightfully or not! If anything, I'd imagine the majority hoped they *were* being screwed. Most of us only had a couple of teachers we really cared for - to our minds the rest were basically jailers at worst, overgrown baby sitters at best. Anyways, thanks for your part in providing a fun day of chaos, Bob! Job well done! Abbie Hoffman would've been proud.
Pretty cruel Lyle. I'm sure the majority of your teachers weren't Jailers OR Babysitters. I'll stop now........

Message: Ok, for the record, if memory serves me correctly, and that would be a reach. The teacher support rally came about because Mrs. Krislock told Cougar staff that the teachers are being wronged by the district. So a few of the staffers, Vicki Barker, Sandra Bell and Bob Deuel wrote about it in for the paper. Then it was decided that a student protest would make it clear to those bureaucrats in the district that if the teachers dont get what they deserve, the student body just wont attend classes. I think that there were one or two teachers who gave an F grade to those who participated. Anyhow, we all got to see what it was like to live in the 60's and to stand for something we believed in, or for most of us, we got approval to ditch a class. The result was a compromise to the teachers, and I don't think they got what they had asked for.
Hey Bill Barmore, thanks for the compliment...your check is in the mail big bro.

Message: Well, surgery went good. He had the bone graft and the full compliment of hardware. Nuts, bolts, and rod. His surgery was Monday just before noon and he was back in his room by 4. By 9pm they had him sitting up on the side of the bed. The next day he was up walking around. The Dr said he was a real mess and a whole lot of degeneration. Then he said "Are you ready to go home?" By noon on Wednesday I was bringing him home.(Thought I would get a longer vacation than that.) Anyway he is doing real good and other than just the pain from the surgery sight, no leg pain like before. He is recouping in the "Computer Room" so he was reading over my shoulder of all the well wishes and cards. So nice of all of you and he Thanks You.
He has gone to sleep now so I can write what I want. We would really love to come down to the Prom Night but just can't do it this time. I know you all will have a really great time. Hey, there is a small ranch for sale next to us. Really nice house only 8 yrs old with ten acres, only thing is the closest grocery store is 8 miles away and 12 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart. Shopping Mall!! whats that? We like it though and the commute is alot better than the freeways. (price of next door $239,900.) I've got bird houses to paint so we can earn $$ for the surgery. I'm goin to set the old man on a street corner to sell them. Love to you all!!
I'll try to communicate more often. judi

Message: Poorman, I remember that "protest" including the speech on the cement "stage" in front of the gym -- there is a photo of that in the '77 El Molino in which Robert Bates has managed to get himself prominently featured just sitting there. I also remember that a group of us marched to the district offices at Leuzinger in order to show our support for the teachers. We then used that as an excuse to cut class and head to the beach whereupon we "spotted" for beer at Ocean Liquor. Kathleen, I did visit Danny Manning's house in Hermosa Beach when he first came to the Clippers (long story) but I cannot recall if he or some other Danny Manning was present when we all had the bee-jezsus scared out of us. Hey, in a secret show the Foo Fighters are opening tonight for the Atomic Punks at Paladino's 6101 Reseda Blvd in Tarzana. Message: Alright, sorry for the assumption made that all of you were '77 graduates. We've gotten so close through this site that I thought you were all there with us. The student protest was done to back the teachers who were in negotiations for new contracts with the district. If I remember correctly they had their own protest going on with placards, sign boards, etc. It was settled, I'm sure due to student upheaval, but not sure who won or lost and how much. As far as the picture, it's been a long time since I've been on campus and quite frankly tried to limit the time even while there but as I remember there was only one two story building and that was where the science classes were. Was it building 15? If that isn't a balcony that I see well then, uh, never mind.
Is that what that is.....a 2 story building? Then it would be the science building (at least it was the science building in the early 60's). Thanks Bob
