Message: Hey John Boy... look at your calander.. Today is July 18th and only one short month away from Aug 18th's-PROM NIGHT.. Tickets are still for sale and I don't want to hear anyone whinin' later that they didn't know all about it.. As for myself, I still have to decorate the "Dan Dye and Betty Bell kissing booth".. This week, I've got Janet Burkett working on the food menu with the Marriott.. and even though we've had some requests for the HHS cafeteria selections, somehow chili burgers...chili mac and tamales and chili just don't seem right.. and what's this with the requests for coconut cream/chocolate pie. Seems to me that most of our food back in the 60's were all topped with "chili".. (wonder why we had a hard time losing weight) Anyway, we have a wonderful menu planned for you.. but you can't enjoy it if you're not there.. I'll be out by my mailbox today..waiting patiently as always for your ticket payment. Judy D On a quest to get you there.
So like what's wrong with chili for a Prom? I was counting on it. OK Cougs, it's getting real close. Please do NOT be left out of Prom Night.

Message: I was out to Brackett Airport last Sunday for the monthly showing of old cars and planes. It was a larger than normal event due to the WWI Vickers Bomber and WWII P-51 Mustang. Also more cars showed up than usual. There were Fords, Chevys, a Pantera, and an excellent 409 Chevy, along with other cars, bikes and planes. I kept a look out for Cougars while I was there. Chris Prewitt was there, but I must have missed him in the large crowd. He emailed me later and sent me a good picture of the Vickers flying by. I wonder if there were other Cougars there. If you were there, let me know.

Message: Hi everybody! Really looking forward to Prom night. Jim and I had a great time at the reunion. I've been teaching summer school and then Mom V had surgery, which she came through just fine, thank God. Talked to Ms. Burket the other day and she related the news that our beloved Mr. Goodfellow had passed away. I didn't get the chance to read too far back in feedback so I wasn't sure if the news had reached everyone. I'm sure that if you knew him you would want to know. He was a wonderful teacher and a good friend to many cougars.

Message: I have to say, Matt Peterson did a wonderful job in organizing the Toast to Yost last Saturday. Coach Yost was deeply touched when so many past wrestlers paid tribute to him. It's truly amazing how alot of things Coach Yost said back then, have a way of staying with us for all these years. There is so much truth in the statement, "That we are a product of our mentors". I myself have done things and thought in the back of my mind, "what would Coach Yost have said". Whether it be a class reunion or a tribute to a mentor or coach, if you were involved, make it a must to attend. You definitly won't regret the experience.
Amen to that. Thanks Wayne

Message: I would like to commend Matt Peterson for the excellent job he did in organizing the Toast To Yost. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of all the wrestlers and score keepers there to honour such a great coach whose influence continues in my life to this day. I will have fond memories of the event and was touched by much of the sharing. Again, I thank you John Baker for this site for making all the connections possible. I have met so many kind people and have rekindled relationships hidden deeply in the past and some with surprising results. Glad to see that the server is up again, John...
Hi Don, Great to know that Matt's "Toast to Yost" Wrestlers and Scorekeepers Reunion was a success. It's just nice that Cougs are getting together to honor special people in their lives. Thanks for the report.

Message: More proof that it really is a small Cougar world. Saturday my hot water heater died. My plumber, a local guy who grew up here in Thousand Oaks, turns out to be a "car guy" (translation: collects and restores old cars for fun) and in fact did a bit of cruising in Hawthorne in the mid 60's. He remembers cruising A & W, the Wich Stand, and Hawthorne Blvd. Alas, he's not a computer guy, but I did take him on a guided tour of Cougartown. Maybe I'll invite him to the next cruise night so he can show off his wheels and see how it's done in Cougartown.
Sharon, bring him along. Oh sure the Doctors, Lawyers, and Dot-com-ers have some nice cars. You know, Boxsters, Benz's, Beamers, etc, but the Plumbers are the only ones who can afford the truly BITCHIN' 60's Muscle cars. I can't wait to meet this guy.
OH, you know while you were showing him the website, his 75 dollar an hour meter was running, don't you?

Message: Hey Matt Peterson! Just wanted to wish you the best on your special event tomorrow with Coach Yost! I know you've put your all into this and I'll bet it will be wonderful! Folks, the HHS Class of '74 was a mighty good year....and Matt is a pretty good example of that! If you haven't found a particular reunion to participate in, or if you feel just a bit disconnected and not sure of how to GET connected, might I suggest the Prom? One of the best things that ever happened to the B girls was hooking up with Ctown and the wild and wacky crew captained by our own John Baker! Join the party, put some faces to these names and make some friends you'll keep forever and think that you have known for years! It's the strangest feeling! It's the NICEST feeling!! Bring a date or don't bring a date. All you really need to bring is an outstretched hand, a smile and stories to share.......
Thanks Sue, I agree all the way. We all know each other from right here, so I say let's meet face to face. You'll be surprised how easy it is to say hello to someone you've never seen, but know well. So whether you're going to the Prom, the Toast to Yost, or one of the many other reunions happening this time of year, please jump in with the energy you had as a Senior. You won't regret it.....Back to you Sue.
