Message: Wow, this Prom looks like it is really coming together? The list looks like it must have over 300, already? Feels like a real boost to me seeing my name on the list too.
Some other parts of my life are falling apart, this last year since my Mom Died.
When I was at Hawthorne High, I had Friends, there too. I had a Great-Grandmother, 2 Grand-mothers, a Grandfather, several Aunts, Uncles,
A Dad, and a Mom, too. They were all 'Dieing to get away from me. And They did.
Oh, some preachers may say, they wanted to get to Gods Kingdom, too. But, they sure didn't waste any time with me, after they left here!
This Prom feels like a real uplift to me, already. I know you're not all going to run away from me like my family did. I'll be there to see You, 'cause God Loves Us All. Anyone remember that song that goes:
My best to you, may your dreams come true,
may old father time, never be unkind,
and through the years, save your smiles and tears,
they are ....
So that says a lot of my feelings about You. My best to you, for my few meaningless days under the sun. See You on 18, Aug.
And a few 'Cruise' nights too. Lord willing.
Hey Joe, We'll see you there.

By the way he survived on 4 hours sleep and lived to tell with only a slight snarl on Sunday. I also wanted to take this opportunity to remind every one that the class of 81 reunion is July 7 from 6-1 a.m. at the Manhattan Marriott and there is a picnic planned for the next day @ Hesse Park in RPV. We have opened it to all classes and hope to have a great turnout. Don't delay, contact myself or any of the other reunion committee members for more info. Don't be left out as the time is approaching very quickly. Feel free to contact me at my e mail address or call me at 714-899-2828. Thanks Lori
Thanks to you and Mario for being there and for waiting so we could all be in the BIG picture. Mario's a good sport.

Message: It's the summer of 1964. I'm hanging out on the corner of 118th and Freeman,
across the street from Ben's Market and only about two doors down from my yellow stucco
house at 4220 W. 118th. It's late in the evening, after 10, but because it was still
warm and we'd had a good day together, the four of us were still hanging
out. Since we were all eight years old now, our parents felt safe letting us stay
out "after the streetlights came on". We liked this corner because there was a
fair amount of traffic. Hot Rods and Lowriders making their way from Prairie Ave.
to Hawthorne Blvd would often come down 118th. The Hot Rods were our
favorites since that's what most of our older brothers had. The rumbling exhaust
and shiny paint jobs came to represent manhood for us, and for me they still do.
There was a well established rivalry between the Surfers in their Hot Rods and
the Lowriders in their lowered 'Chebbies'. What defined a Surfer or Lowrider
mystified me then and now. It wasn't purely ethnic as there were Latino Surfers
and White Lowriders. It was more a style than a true ethnic boundary. At a
certain point you just decided whether you wanted to hang with the Surfers or
the Lowriders and you chose your clothing, hairstyle and car accordingly. This particular
evening had wound down to the point where there was almost no traffic. We
were just about to head in as it was getting close to 11. Suddenly we noticed a
black sedan cruising down 118th with it's lights off. This had never happened
before. The sedan ran the stop sign at Freeman and swerved to our side of the
street. We didn't know what it was but we wanted none of it. We scattered like
a school of small fish. A man jumped out and yelled "Stop, you kids! Police!"
We stopped just long enough to listen, but still ready to run like mad if he
moved towards us. Turned out that it was past curfew and it was time for us
to be in our respective homes. I remember thinking at the time that the purpose of the
curfew must be to keep kids safe. It seemed unnecessary. In our world, at this time,
there were no real dangers; only adventures.
Very Cool......yes, I remember staying out late when I was young. We all had flashlights and they were just plain fascinating to us 7 year olds. Thanks Michael for the memory flogger......

Message: Okay folks, I propose an immediate moratorium on the discussion of 'processing'
Pink's Dogs. I do so for the following three reasons; (1) Initially we were hearing
about their grease laden taste, and then the leaden way that they lay in the victim's
stomachs. NOW, five days later, the conversation is becoming truly frightening!
(2) You're making us look old. All old people want to talk about is their digestion
and elimination. Next John B. will be starting up a separate Feedback page for
constipation cures. (3) I want to hear about Dick's Cobra. What kind of engine you
got in that thing, Dick?

When it hit 100 the air conditioner at work stopped so we were working with sweat rolling down our back and there was no relief in site. Lasted between 115 and 118 for three weeks. No oxygen to breath. We took our dog, ice chest (of course filled with beer) some french bread and cheese and went to Whiskeytown Lake and put our chairs in the water. We didn't leave until dark. NOW THAT'S HOT.

Message: This is a sad note to anybody out there who was interested in bodybuilding or has lifted weights at one time or another. This is more personal than to do with CT. Over the weekend Mike Mentzer one of the most recognized names in bodybuilding and fitness was found dead of an appareant heart attack on Sunday. His brother Ray found him in their home in Palos Verdes. Mike who was favored at the Mr. Olympia in 76' was beaten out by Arnold and after that lost everything. Ray was found dead today. Ray was also a former champion. My connection is that Ray was my personal friend and trainer in 1985-86 when I became a World Champion. He was great and this is more of eulogy than anything. I have to put it somewhere. He made me strong in mind and strength for competition. It was his yelling at me to do one more rep or more weight that made me one of the strongest men in the world in 1986. He was an idol to many and I'm sure anyone on CT who has been in a gym or trained has heard of the Mentzer brothers. Mike invented the Heavy Duty training principle that is still in use today. I'm sorry for taking up room here for this but I thought that maybe some of you fellow CT'ers knew of Mike or Ray and would like to know what happened to them. Thank you John for letting me do this. He didn't go to HHS but I did, and Ray's death affects me cause he really is a main reason why I have done what I have done in the past. Keith
No problem Keith. Sorry for your loss.

Message: You're all welcome for the cake and thank YOU John, for Cougartown. We had a ball at Pink's - it was great to see Bob Veach and wife Anna, Chris Prewitt and Pat and Walter and I can't recall the name of the great gal who is married to a Coug but jumped right in to serve cake! And of course, the usual suspects. For those of you who have not attended - or MAY have attended but don't make yourselves known - DO SO! It is such a kick to finally put faces to names or see the CT characters in the flesh. It's all just one big happy family and the stories go on forever!! We missed you Janet!! Dan Johnson is great fun - looks far too executive to be a wild child of rock. But he is! Haven't seen Joyce for a long time either! And while I won't make a run to Pink's without the gang being there to create the ambience, I'll never miss the CT gathering there. Heck, the kid handling security (?) in the parking lot was from Leuzinger for goodness sakes! Talk about a small world - and Betty Wright East, don't you ever leave early again! We must have missed you and Noreen Crotty by just minutes! And nobody is kidding about the hot dogs there - it takes DAYS to get them through your system! OK, what's next?
Next is Prom Night, then Cruise Night in September. Hope all can make both. Thanks Sue. Nice to see you and Darryl too.

It has been so many years that I will not be able to identify many of you at the Prom Nite 2001. I am thrilled to be able to see some of my "old" classmates. I have not retired yet as some of you have, I have three more years according to Social Security.
Hey is the "Senior Square" still there on the campus? I have wondered for many years. It was such a privilege to be able to sit there and not be bothered by all the underclasspersons, have to be politically correct. You always had a place to sit and not worry if there was going to be a place at the planter boxes to sit during lunch, or between classes. Of course that was before the new cafeteria was built. Remember, 1957 when the swimming pool was just built and we got to have it to ourselves one whole day. What a good time then. I am really jazzed about August 18. Come on 1957 and show some support for this! As far as I can tell, there are not even ten that graduated from HHS in 1957 on the list of persons attending. I have only had my home computer about three months but use one at work. If I can, so can some of you others at 62
Will see all of you in August, OK?
