Message: Japanese Village and Deer Park was started by a man named Joe Prevital. He came from Movieland Wax Museum. After several years the Deer Park was dissolved due to low attendance figures. There was much controversy about what happened to all of the deer. Other features of the Village were Akita Dogs, a Teahouse and Karate pavilion. Yes, the Park was located just off of the Santa Ana Freeway in Buena Park. Joe Prevital then went onto MovieWorld Car?s of the Stars, another Buena Park attraction. He now is in charge of The Queen Mary which is in Long Beach Harbor. I think Yamma and Lamma use to work at "THE VILLAGE". They were head of Crowd Control!
Another attraction at the Deer Park was the Pearl Divers.

He pitched 4 games and was released, I think Campanis had a thing against Negrays, he never thought they had the necessities.

Just staying overnight though. Got a plane to catch heading to Fresno on Sat May the 12th to see 16 B-25 bombers fly in Honor of Jimmy Doolittle. The most since the filming of Catch-22 back in the late 60's. Just thinking the other day, who remember the place out by Knott's Berry Farm called "Japanese Garden"? I don't remember too much as I was young and only went twice. All I remember it had was feeding the dolpins and Japanese fishes which was cool. What else did that place have?????
Raymond, I think you're remembering Japanese Deer Park. I don't remember where it was exactly, as the last time I was there was in 1969, but it was out that way.

Message: Memo to JSloey: I am doing alright up here, Retired from softball after taking UC/City league titles two years in a row in 98. Knees and my Bobby Knight coaching style wore thin on a bunch of 30 and 40 year old hacks. Sounds like the Sloey family are HHS royalty in Cougar Hall of Fame! By the way, regarding your Little League suggestion to Tambo, he was right. I knew enough to layoff of Scott's curve and waited for the fastball (no splitter in LL). Result was hit over .300 lifetime against him, you can look it up!
Speaking of Tamburrino: Anyone ever wonder if he was role model for Robin Williams character in Good Morning Vietnam??? I heard that's what he did over there.
Memo to Bloxam: Get your fastball down, they're hitting beebees by me in CF and my knees don't work as well as they used to! Nice to hear from you. Send a private line with any e-mails and gossip you have.
Memo to JB re Dodgers: I still love the old Dodgers, but current team only has 2 players with the right stuff: Kevin Brown and Eric Karros. How can you love a lineup with players like Grissom, Grudzalenek (MVP Bosnia-Hercegovinia League, 1995), Sheffield (Whiner), Goodwin, Green (pretty boy), Loduca (Potential), Bochachcica (illegal & obscene wrestling hold), Reboulet (sounds like wine rather than SS), not to mention the class acts Carlos Perez and Chan Ho Park????
JB you were right I forgot the 88 team with Kirk Gibson and Orel H. But my all-time Dodger team has players like Wills, Gilliam, Roseboro, Wes Parker, Koufax, Drysdale, Podres, Osteen, Fernando, the Bulldog and the Vulture, T. Davis, the 3 Dog, Cey, Lopes, Garvey. They do not make them like that anymore and until the Dodgers get over their identity crisis with Fox ownership, Malone, Dick Tracy, etc, it's going to be a long wait.
Sure, the Giants don't have the titles, but give me a team with their blue collar hustle and desire any day. Aurilia, J. Kent (better than Rogers Hornsby), Bonds(500-500), Snow, Nasty Nen & Rios are a lot more fun to watch than the no-namers in LA. All we need are starting pitchers!
Good to hear from you all and keep the sports smack down Sloey!

John according to my source, major league baseball and Kevin Malone, Hodges didn't catch that year but he did in other years. And my trivia question for Friday how many Negrays did the Dodgers have in 1958?
Look on page 2 of that list. You'll see Hodges caught in 58. And why are we talking baseball? This is the Cougartown Feedback page, not Sports Center. Sloey, Sports Thursday has melted away for another year.

Message: Thanks King Robin! Baker its not Gil Hodges. He never caught in 1958, but he did play 3rd 1st and the outfield, 9 games all in leftfield. Junior Gilliam, the rookie of the year in 1955 played all three outfield positions and 3rd and 2nd so he be the man and King Robin was correct. Baker, me and Robin decided (besides the new manner of grammatical construction by using yourself in a sentence with another person, so that it is no longer Robin and I its me and Robin or if Robin were saying it it would be me and Jim, test Monday) that even though Robin is now King you can still do all the work. So keep asking those baseball trivia questions and this is great Sports Thursday. Robin I sent you an email so that we'll both have all the answers. As a long time dodger fan, Thank you Mr. Esterbrook where ever you are!
Robin count me and Al Jardine in for the poker game Saturday, we won't tell the Breeze guy.
Gil Hodges caught one game in 58. And why are you stepping all over someone elses trivia question. I don't believe anyone called on you for the answer.
Try and make a buck today Sloey. Go outside and listen for a siren.

Message: Hello to my fellow '72sters! It's been awhile. I'm alive and well (a little dinged up; a little bigger; thining hair, but better looking; and more humble from all the wear & tear of the years).
I have been living in San Francisco for 9 years now after stints in Oregon, SoCal (UCLA grad school) and upstate New York. Been in the Bay Area so long now, that I cannot go home again and appreciate Hawthorne/LA. I actually hate the Dodgers now and love whenever the Giants sweep-em, like yesterday (It's hard to back such a soulless team (LA Foxers) whose greatest years were from 1959-81).
Would love to hear from old school buddies from our "fields of glory" and HHS classrooms (particularly "Seminar" & Math). Anyone knowing the whereabouts, e-addresses or tidbits about the following perosns, please let me know: John Fowler, Jim Patrick, Wes Miyamoto, Suzi Beal, Karen Creede, Marti Sasaki, Julia Roberts (or Erin Brockovich), Larry King, Mike Scott, Sullivan DeFrank, David Sayad, Jim Karlock or Perry Cohen. Actually, I would love to hear from anyone of my old frieds who wants to fire off a note or share a "virtual beer together". In the meantime, cheers to all the old Cougars, forever young in our memories!
Thanks John Baker and all those who created and supported this page. It's been a walk down memory lane.
Dean, I guess the 88 Dodger team didn't count huh, and although you only need one hand to count the Dodger Championships, you don't need any fingers at all to count San Franciscos. Once a Dodger fan, always a Dodger fan. It's like the Mafia....you can't get out alive.

Gloria, I guess, is a classmate's paying member, but since I am not, she can reach me, but they won't allow me to contact her back, which I have a REAL PROBLEM with. So, if any of you classmates.com members would do me a HUGE favor and direct her over here to the "real Cougartown site" and let her know how to reach me via either of my e-mail addy's above, I owe you one, if you like good wine, Newberg has several, or hazelnuts, I live in hazelnut growing area, or good microbrewed beer, you let me know, and you've got it, just get me re-united with Gloria!
And John, once again, you have shown me, and hopefully others, just what a great value Cougartown.com is for only 10 clams a year ( your check for this years dues will be in the mail shortly, but please, deposit this check a little sooner than the last one, okee-dokee...thanks!). I mean, not that Gloria is not worth that $29.50 or $29.95 or whatever it is they are charging, it's the principal of it, plus, I don't need all the other crap they offer when you become a member. I just want to contact some old friends, period. Thanks for the space to write this, John. Greatly appreciated!
