Message: This is directed at Anita Young-Anita, I'm a paid member over on Classmates.com ...I'd be happy direct your friend to Cougartown. That goes for anyone else who would like to tap into me since I do have a membership over there. Hated to do it but we are trying to nab our West High Alumni and steer them to Warriorville. It is a rip off over at Classmates. Feel free to email me at kathy90277@earthlink.net
Thanks Kathy, That's mighty "Cougar" of you to do that. There you go Anita.

Message: No body has mentioned Johnny Padres for pitcher so I thought I would give it a try. Also how about Charlie Neal for different positions. Remember Wally Moon? Vin Scully called a home run by Wally Moon a "Moon Shot" over the left field fence. I would like to see the pictures from the reunion. I have looked at cruise night pictures and saw some familar faces. You all look like you have weathered the storm of age pretty well. Take care all you Cougars.
Hi Lyman, Cruise night pictures are coming. Right now I'm in the middle of a few other things, but I'll get to them soon.

Message: Ok! HMMMM. If the Q. is "who was the second pitcher to start IN LA for the Dodgers", it must have been Koufax. My contribution to this trivia is: Who played the most positions for the Dodgers their first year in LA? Oh, an' didn't ya love that left field fence (screen)?
I'll say Gil Hodges. He played 1st and 3rd, the outfield, and caught in a pinch.

Message: This is a plea to either anyone in here who is a "paying member" of classmates.com or anyone who knows her.....I just got a notification from classmates.com that Gloria Benaquista, HHS class of 1972 is trying to reach me. Gloria and my sister, Mary, also class of 1972 were great friends back in high school and Gloria was more or less a friend of our whole family. Gloria, I guess, is a classmate's paying member, but since I am not, she can reach me, but they won't allow me to contact her back, which I have a REAL PROBLEM with. Pisses me off, as a matter of fact! I think it's extortion! I mean, come on, they already have her money ,they need mine, too in order for us to re-connect? Give me a break! So, if any of you classmates.com members would do me a HUGE favor and direct her over here to the "real Cougartown site" and let her know how to reach me via either of my e-mail addy's above, I owe you one, if you like good wine, Newberg has several, or hazelnuts, I live in hazelnut growing area, or good microbrewed beer, you let me know, and you've got it, just get me re-united with Gloria! And John, once again, you have shown me, and hopefully others, just what a great value Cougartown.com is for only 10 clams a year ( your check for this years dues will be in the mail shortly, but please, deposit this check a little sooner than the last one, okee-dokee...thanks!). I mean, not that Gloria is not worth that $29.50 or $29.95 or whatever it is they are charging, it's the principal of it, plus, I don't need all the other crap they offer when you become a member. I just want to contact some old friends, period. Thanks for the space to write this, John. Greatly appreciated!
OK Anita.....

Message: Just popped in to read "Cougar" feedback. Got to tell you, Judy's feedback cracks me up. I am so envious of all of you- I sit here and chuckle while reading all the feedback but especially Judy's. (You folks have a great sense of humor) Love looking at the pictures that are posted as well- John, you're funny too, "Funny Looking" Ha! Ha! I did enjoy your Cruise Night photos...You have done a superb job here but then again, you already knew that. Maybe I'm just getting melancholy as I get older? Do you think? I love going back to the "Good Old Days" because they were for all of us. No matter what high school you went to, here in the South Bay. Well, time to close this feedback and go fix breakfast for Tom. Today is his 40th Birthday! Gosh, I have waited for this day for 17 years. He's finally catching up with me. (Laughing) He tells me he can't wait until I turn 55 because then, we can go live in a Senior Citizen Community. Oh geez louise- Tom is 8 years my junior however, he has more gray in his hair then I do. Ha! Ha!
Hi Kathy, Glad you're still out there. Tell Tom happy birthday and maybe one of these days you two will show at Cruise Night. Hope the West High site is going well too.

A sincere hello to the class of 72, to the Cougars I played baseball with from 69-72, and to the Coaches: Coach Minami and Coach Semon.
Wow 29 years! Doesn't seem that long. If anyone has seen or knows where either Dwayne Phelps or his brother Bruce Phelps ended up, I would really like to know. The last time I saw Dwayne was 1985 in Lake Havasu. So far all the directory look ups have been useless. Thanks.

And I'm chuckling because I'm betting YOU intimidated a few of the guys out there with your guess - you go girl! I'd have sent this privately but don't have an email address for you. Let's see happy faces back in CT please. All are welcome here. Oh, except for what's his name from Beverly Hills.....
Yeah Cindy, you chime in any time. I didn't mean anything by that comment. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. If you know who pitched the second game ever pitched in the Coliseum I'd love to know.

Message: Wondering if anyone can help me locate some lost Hawthorne friends - I would like to know if anyone knows Patrick or Robert Sciarra - I went to 1st grade at Cabrillo with Patrick and he lived on 135th St and Anza (that was about 1953). We went through grade school together then when our family moved from 132St in 1960 to 116th and Ramona I lost touch. I don't think he attended HHS - I believe he went to a Catholic High School near El Segundo area. Their mother's name was Rose and Sam was their father. If anyone has any info would appreciate it if you would e-mail me. Or if you have any advice on how to search for someone I would appreciate it. Won't be long until the reunion in August and can't wait!! Hail Cougars & HHS & Scaret & Gold!
Marcia, If you're sure of the spelling, go to www.switchboard.com and type in the name. I'm sure you'll run into at least a relative. Good Luck

Message: Regarding the opening day pitcher for the Dodgers in '58: had to be Drysdale or Koufax--probably the latter, since he was at the time, I believe, the best pitcher in the majors (send me a commission if I helped).
Actually opening day for the Dodgers in 1958 was on the road, and was in San Francisco. Those two pitchers were already used up. I used to have a 1958 Dodger schedule, but I think opening day would have been 4-15-1958, as that was a Tuesday (3 games with the Giants), then home to the Coliseum on the 18th to play opening day, in LA, against the Giants AGAIN. So the question restated is, who was the first pitcher EVER to start a game in the Coliseum for the Dodgers?

Message: HELLLLLLLLLPPPP! I have a dear friend who has a piece of Dodger memorabilia that could be worth between $2-$3 million, if he can determine its authenticity. What he needs to know is who was the opening day pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, April 18, 1958, the first year the Dodgers were in LA and they played as you may remember at the Coliseum. My friend is willing to share the memorabilia, (meaning he'll let you look at it) but he's a Cougar so let's help him. He's also a regular on feedback but is a little reluctant to identify himself with the anticipated value of his new found treasure. No, it is not me. And isn't this exciting, Sports Wednesday is back! Can Joke Tuesday be far behind?
Jim, To be quite honest, if you owned Roy Campanella's spinal column and it was SIGNED, it wouldn't be worth 3 million dollars.

Message: WOW!!! What fun at cruise night followed by the reunion. John Baker and Richard Sloan, both of you are to be congratulated for bringing some of our long lost cougs out of the woodwork. Athens, Boise and Kansas City just to name a few. Both events, back to back, were very special. Thanks guys, it is deeply appreciated. And while I'm at it, thanks to everyone who wondered what happened to me for the last 6-8 months. Physical problems topped with heavy business pressures darkened my view for a while, but I am back. And for several of those who asked what I have been doing with my life for the last 40 years, the flamed '33 Ford at cruise night is the fun part along with the PT Cruiser at the reunion. And someone asked if I could get them a new PT Cruiser through my dealer's license....and the answer is yes. Sorry I forgot your name and didn't get your card at the reunion. MY number is 310.822.5893.
What a blast...thanks again guys.

All of us sat up late into the night talking and we still didn't have enough time. It felt so unreal to be sitting there talking to Jimmy from forty years ago. Wow, it was incredible. Also, I said my favorite song was "Is the Moon Out Tonight", well I was wrong. I meant "I Only Have Eyes For You" you know the lyrics, "Are the Stars Out Tonight". O.K., O.K., it's been a few years. It is great to hear from all of you and I will see you at Prom Night.
Hi Betty, Yes the "Doo-Wop-Shoo-Bop" song was done by the Flamingos in 1959?? I'm losing it too.
