Message: Well, I was one of five 70's people who showed up at Cruise Night and though we missed you Dan, it was a wonderful visit! It's always a pleasure to spend time with JB, JB2 and the Rowdys and I got to see and put faces to some of the CT "posters" the rest of you only get to read about!! Show up kids! This gang is just too much fun! It's like they're all just big brothers and sisters - all from the same family. Thanks John - you are loved. Steve and Kathy it was a kick and we gotta do it again soon. Mike Backus, you missed a fine night - be there next time! Thanks Mom B for being my date. See you all at the next event.
It's hard NOT to have a good time with the B girls in attendance. Thanks Sue for being there..... And Mom B......Janet says you have the picture.

Message: Hi John, Hey, I was at the Cruise Night and the '59, '60 & '61 Reunion also. What a great Cruise Night, probably the best yet. The drop-in at the Hotel on Friday night was great also! And the reunion was the greatest, I saw many old faces (literally) that I hadn't seen for a long time. The check is in the mail for the T-Shirts. Pat & I had a fantastic week-end. You know John, a lot of people don't realize that this reunion included the football players from probably the best team ever at HHS. It's the only team ever to play in the L.A. Colosseum for the CIF Championship. (1959-60) At the Drop-in at the Hotel in Cerritos we sat in a big circle in the reception room and Coach Chauncey delighted us with many stories of the football team. My wife was amazed that he remembered all the names of the players, and the details of the games. What a great time! Thank God I'm a Coug! Royal
The highlight of Friday night was when Al Jardine walked up to Coach Chauncey. The Coach was busy regaling us with all kinds of stories....football and otherwise. The Old Coach looked at Al, all 5'6" 160lbs of him and said, "Well if it isn't Al Jardine......I can't BELIEVE I made you my Fullback". The place went wild.
It's a unique Hawthorne family we have. I feel very humbled to be a part of Hawthorne High and its history. It was a special place and time, with very special people. Thanks Royal, for being there too.

Message: A HUGE thanks to Walter Holt and his Lady, Sarah, for coming to my rescue and giving me a ride to Cruise Night...and down Memory Lane afterwards. It's great to be able to put faces to so many of the names I see here on Feedback. I promise to get my car situation straightened out, but first things first...gotta get a job to get the money to straighten it out. By the way, JB, something is missing from the page...what happened to the "Add Feedback" button?
Well I don't know. Maybe I erased it. Thanks Patti, I'll fix it now.

Hey Jimmie, Great to meet you face to face too. It was a fun, fun weekend from start to finish. Be there on Prom Night and we'll do this all again.

Message: Those Fosters Cruise Night Pix were really terrific and funny. They did, however, reveal a very poor 70s turnout. I plead guilty as an enabler.
Thanks Dan, I say if you don't wanna go, don't go. It's that simple. The 70's people that wanted to be there, were there and that's all that matters. I'm sure this turnout had lots to do with the 59-60-61 reunion over the weekend at the Sheraton Cerritos. Maybe next time, but if not, that's OK too. We had a great turnout. Even the 80's people showed up.

You can order your booklet through Worthington Reunions by filling out your order form and sending it in with the money. Or if you don't have the order form, you can call Worthington at (CA only) 800/600-1577 or (out of state) 714/641-7544. The Memory Booklet is going to be worth every single penny of the $20 you need to send with your order.
Thanks Karen...

Message: Top of the day fellow Cougs...Just a note to say what fun it was at Fosters meeting and chatting with everyone. I am totally amazed at the Recollections of Mr. Harry Plotkin, you have a mind like a steel trap. Of course as expected Bobby Boo & Billy Boy Jensen were stood up by Yamma & Ramma, much to their dismay (Ya right more like a big load off their shoulders. They were ducking at the sight of every red head in the crowd). I tried to consol them as much as possible. Don’t worry guys, there’s always PROM NIGHT. After Foster’s Patty Smith, Sarah & I took a cruise down memory lane going through Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo Beach & up to the old spot in Palos Verdes. Yep, wouldn’t you know it the old tree is still there & they put in paved parking spaces. Oh well times they are a changin. Doris got your message, Hello Back to you; hope to see you at the PROM. Cougars Forever !
It was nice to finally meet you in person Walter. Thanks for bringing your Oldies collection, and Patti Smith too. We've just GOT to get her car situation straightened out. See you at the Prom in August.

Message: It really looks like everyone had fun this weekend. I wish I could have gone. Hopefully I will be there soon. I was thinking wouldn't it be kind of neat to have a reunion but bring our kids. This way they can see just how much fun we had back in high school and see and hear stories about their parents. I think it would be great for the kids. i have found out that the kids today do things that they think we are not aware of. I am constantly telling my daughters they can't possibly do anything that I haven't done. They tell me crazy things they do and that is nothing compared to what I did. Anyway, just thinking outloud. Can't wait to see the pics of the past weekend. KDJ

It was my first but certainly won't be my last. My husband, Dan (North Hollywood Class of '55) really enjoyed himself as well. Time flew by so fast that I didn't have enough time to spend with each of you to really catch up, but maybe next time - and - I hope to see even more of you at the next one. Love ya! Beverly (P.S. Message: A sixties legend has passed on. Ed "Big Daddy" Roth died at his home in Colorado at age 69. Roth pioneered the custom car craze and was one of the first to use fiberglass in his car creations. He was most famous for his cartoons, including the legendary "Rat Fink", who appeared in Hot Rod Magazine for decades. RIP Big Daddy!
Ed "Big Daddy" Roth did the sign work on my best friend, and fellow 61er, Mike Shay's boat about 15 years ago. What a talent, and Ed Roth was one of the REAL TRUE free spirits. He designed Tshirts and Hot Rods with the same energy. I don't know if he'll get the go ahead to do a Flame Job on the Pearly Gates, but I'm sure they'll be lettered by the time I arrive. "Big Daddy"....you will be missed by all Hot Rodders.

Message: Ok JB, I'm writin'!! For those of you who are in the alumni classes of '59, '60 and '61 and were unable to attend the Reunion last Saturday night, you missed a fabulous reunion. We started with Cruise Night as Foster's, and I'll bet there were at least 150 Cougars who attended, not counting spouses and friends. What fun!! Some party-goers attended the big bash at the Sheraton, that night as well, where Richie Sloan had a hospitality suite open for the out-of-towners who stayed at the hotel. I understand that was a well attended affair also. Saturday night, though, was the best. The highlight of the whole evening was seeing Al Jardine, not as a Beach Boy, but as a friend and fellow alumni, and I'm happy to say, for the most part, was treated as such. What a treat to see him again. Then on Sunday morning, a brunch was attended at the hotel by many of the alumni and the fun started all over again!! There are no words to describe the pleasure it was to see all our friends again, to share old memories and get caught up on the happenings of our friend's lives. For all of you out there in Cougartown who have never been to a class reunion, I urge you to attend: You won't be sorry. I'd like to say a special thanks to Mr. Nyman and his wife who attended. What a special man he was and is to all of us! Also thank yous go to the other faculty members from HHS and Dana who attended. The reunion committee who worked so hard to get this very special occasion together deserve our many thanks too. What an event!! It was great. And for those of you who I saw at the parties, please keep in touch with me and come see me sometime. My door is always open to my Cougar friends. Remember, our 45th year is coming soon, let's do it again!!!
Luvya all, Karen

Yes, I feel the same way and it wasn't even my class that was in attendance.
A great time was had by all who attended, as Rich Sloan and Co. put on still another SUPER reunion. And it WAS great to see Al Jardine again, and talk to him, Russ Jacobsen (EL ROJO), Bobby Hunter, Coach Chauncey, Bob Barrow, Fred Ragatz, Tim Lutz, and many others about THE GAME, and HHS times.
There too, were plenty of Cougs that I hadn't thought of in years. I was passing out Cougartown Prom Night flyers; looked at this one guy and said, "You're Mel Bentley aren't you". He was shocked too, as I don't know why his name jumped into my head. We didn't even hang out together in High School. That kind of thing was happening all night.
There will be pictures of these two events as soon as I get them sorted out. Thanks again to all who made this a magical weekend for lots of our brother and sister Cougs.
I'm telling you all now, DON'T MISS YOUR REUNIONS!! They are very special evenings in your life.
Thanks Karen, it was great seeing and talking to you this weekend.....Can't wait for my own 40th next year. George Rea, are you listening??
