Message: Yes, I'm a wimp at this time of year. Yes, My loving wife hates this time of season not so much of the Seasonal hectics but my whinnnng. But, when it snows, I stop whinning for just a moment. You see I hate cold(as we all ex-Californians all do) but rain mixed with cold is just stupid. Now that it's snowing I can live with that. Sure I can't drive "L.A.Style" but I rather have a snowflake fall on me and I can easily brush it off and get warm inside of my car/house than to have cold freezing wet rain get my clothes wet and then have to sit in that (when driving of course). Therefore my vote is in without a recount....Let it snow, let it snow... IN PORTLAND!
Now there are a few folks who's looking for Marjorie Berkel. Well, she contacted me today so I'll be hearing from her really soon. Not sure if this was due to Cougartown.com or Classmates.com (no, I'm not a member if you ask). Check in for more info since I told her about this wonderful site.
Thanks Ray, I had to bring my brass monkeys in last night, as it got down to 37 degrees in Lomita. No rain yet. We went to my cousin's place in Tehachapi on Sunday and it was COLD. I called him last night and it was snowing there too.

Message: With all of the people talking about the snow, Kathie and I took a trip to Disneyland for a gingerbread cookie and hot chocolate. While we were enjoying our treats, there were fireworks and afterwards it started snowing. I just don't know what you are talking about cold while it snows. Most of the people were in short sleeves shirts and pants. They did put on jackets while on the cold tram ride back to the parking structure to get their cars. I do enjoy watching it snow...

Message: Yes, we Oregon Cougars are snow wimps. It snowed so bad last night I almost couldn't see the grass this morning. Was glad to see it gone by mid-day. Two inches of snow brings the whole valley to a stand-still. Be gone you winter weather.
Happened to stop over at the classmates.com site today and saw some new Cougars that I haven't noted on the Alumni list here. Would someone that has a paid membership on Classmates e-mail some of these people and inform them about CT?
I saw Kayla Hamre's (58) name on Classmates and would like to drop her a note. Her folks owned the Western Auto store in town in 50's-60's. I worked for them for a while.
John, what would it take for you to e-mail me some of those 50° temps this way?
Hey Mickey, At 8:06pm it's 51 degrees in Lomita. Not sure I can get off an email before we drop into the 40's, but I'll try.
About Classmates..... Glenn Crist, HHS64 is our man in the Classmates street. He periodically goes in and lets new Cougs know how to get to Cougartown. Thanks Mickey and try to stay warm.

Here's another plus for Cougartown.com! I noticed on JakeNJude's epistles they would now and again state their city as I DY HO or something similar. So got in touch with them and come to find out they are quite near to where I live here in beautiful Idaho! Small world. They sent a very nice reply to my email and I was delighted. And PACO!!! Where has PACO been???? HeeelllOOOO! OKAY! Who else are we missing??? The Mquitties!!!! ooops! Rather "McQuittys" WHERE ARE YOU GUYS!!!???
Doris, I think you mean McQuitties or is it Mackwittees. And we haven't heard from Jake since USC stomped a big ole mudhole in UCLA about 4 weeks ago. I hope he didn't slash his wrists.

Message: Well John boy, I just wanted to get into CT and wish my hubby, Janny Blomsterberg, a belated Happy Birthday..(Prom nite tonight honey) See, I know how to get the most for my money. (this weekend it's off to Lenny's for the Senior Grand Slam) And another Happy Birthday to Joyce Savisky Chance~~ (and for you Joycie, I'll send my regards) I still just can't get over the fact that we're 50 something. I also just went to the PROM NITE TICKET LIST, and just love what I see. The tickets are still selling and it looks like the 60's people are in the lead. Skip Kelly called to say that he's getting in touch with several puterless alumni from the 50's. (are you paying attention Doris Donaldson?) This just keeps getting better & better.. Now, I have to go back to picking my favorite Tommy Edwards songs for the DJ. I have a couple of requests already, like from Betty Bell.."There's a moon out tonight" & John Baker will sway to anything that's Chuck Berry. Kathy Brooks wants Promrose Lane.. and Rowdy Mr. Plotkin will dance to either, "I enjoy being a girl"... or "I'm just a girl that can't say no." (1 more pic of Mr. Plotkin in drag Sid)
Happy Birthday Janny & Joyce..
Now, I'm off like a prom dress again.

Message: Hey guess what came in my mailbox friday afternoon! The long awaited Hawthorne High School Alumni directory. Mentions John Baker as a famous Cougar and the founder of Cougartown.com. All in all I am glad I spent the money for this book, it has a lot of folks I have been looking for and had exhausted my means of locating. The book isn't 100% complete, (my sisters are missing) but at 416 pages of fine print it looks like they did a pretty good job of checking the names and addresses. I have already called a couple of people I haven't heard from in 30 years. Thanks John for letting us know about this one. Cal

Message: I'll second all the other Ore. Cougars about the white stuff. Went to Salem today and got about as far south as brooks and the rain turned solid. Salen was all white with about a 1/4" build up. My son called a little while ago and said we could get as much as 2" of snow south of Wilsonville. Hope it doesn't decide to stay too long. Can handle overnight OK.
John, lighting up your fireplace for looks doesn't count. We still use Wood for heat in a lot of homes here. I've have the wood stove going for most of the time for several weeks.
You know wood provides heat several times during its use? Once when cutting and splitting, another time when carying into house and finally when you put it in the fireplace or stove. Next stove is going to be a pellet stove. I'm getting too old to enjoy chopping wood.
Hope all are getting their Christmas shopping done. Last week I received an e-mail from Betty Bell and she said she and her husband travel about an hour's drive away to shop at a mall and they camp out in a motel room over the week end, shopping during the day and wrapping presents at night. Now does that sound like FUN??
Lighting for looks heck!!! It must be about 55 degrees down here.

Message: It has been snowing here since about 2:00 AM. The weather is so bad that they closed the Outlet Mall! To Walter Holt, American Flyer trains were in S-gauge which featured a track with 2 rails. Lionel (and most of their other contemporaries) were in O or O27 gauge with a 3 rail track. The O and O27 gauge ran on the same track, but the O rolling stock was a little larger. HO was a smaller gauge that was also made by most of the big manufacturers of electric trains. The fact that I had any electric train (a "boy's toy") when I was a kid in the 1950's, even if it was a Marx, is interesting. I've never been sure if my parents were just ahead of their times or if my father just wanted an excuse to have some really cool toys around the house.

Message: On December 1st my cousin, Margaret "Peggy" Ross passed away after a courageous battle with malignant melanoma. Peggy attended Hawthorne only for her senior year of 1970. She was an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy for several years and then transferred to Torrance where she eventually made Detective. She was an energetic, vivacious lady and I will miss her very much. Her memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday December 5 in Lomita. If any had wished to attend sorry for the late notice but it happened quickly and on a weekend. It would be nice to remember her (and her two brothers that are police officers-Torrance and Gardena) when you light your blue light as will I. Thanks Alan Nelson for the tip about this fine demonstration of solidarity. One other thing- Peggy and I never gave up the concept of flashing the peace sign at each other or using the word peace as a goodbye gesture. Maybe the best thing to come out of the 60's and 70's. So as we go into this holiday season think, live and say-PEACE. (Goodbye, Peggy)

Message: Top of the day Fellow Cougs...
I am glad we finally got the Mcquitty matter clear up…I was getting sooo confused... It felt like I was back in English class.. Besides, Rick I hate to tell you but you were a bit late on taken the cloths off...We beat you on that one back in 69 at Woodstock.(Yes I was There) Speaking of toys...American Flyers, were those O or HO gauge. I don’t remember. My Dad Bought me a Lionel O gauge for Xmas one year, then decided it was too big so the next year he got me an HO gauge set that he could play with. We wound up with the garage half taken up with a layout that could run 6 train sets at a time. THEN SLOT CARS CAME OUT. Guess what happened to the train layout…. TINKER TOYS weren’t those what we used in science projects to show molecular structure ? Did anyone else go over to the Mattel factory and climb the fence to get their rejected toys?? Those were the toys we didn’t get in trouble for breaking or blowing up with fire crackers. Keith Jones…. Motocross Madness is a kewl game, have you tried Need for Speed High Speed Stakes, Carmageddon 2, Decent 3 or Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator yet???….What, me play Computer games….never.
Donna….Thank you for the refresher on the HHS fight song.. Wasn’t there more to it than that???….Lisa Graham….A big hello to you, I remember you from some of the classes I was in. (please don’t ask which, the ole brain cells couldn’t take it). Cheryl Nicocia… Must have been nice to write your own notes, my sister (class of 64) worked in the office my 1st 2 yrs. At HHS, so I couldn’t sneeze wrong without it getting back to my parents. Mr. Plotkin… I wish to say a big hello to you also. In my opinion you were the best teacher that I had the pleasure of knowing. You have been a positive influence on my life; as well as countless others & I thank you for that. I look forward to see you again at Prom Night.
Whew…Guess that catches me up on the last couple of days….GO COUGARS
