Message: I wanted to say a happy Memorial Day to one and all. I am quite proud to say that my Father was in the Navy, my Brother in the Army and my oldest Son is in the Air Force so Memorial Day means alot to me and I will be flying my flag for all those that have and are still serving our country. Now, onto the most recent controversy in Cougartown, just to put my 2 cents in, I can say that porn was a contributor to my divorce. Some people get hooked on it and it becomes almost a drug to them. I have always found it extremely degrading to women and would have none of it in my home. And I'm not talking playboy or hustler here but the raunchy crap that is out there. When you are trying to raise children, in my case my sons, and their dad has this stuff showing up here and there believe me it truely pisses you off! I feel that a car show where children might be present is not a place for any kind of nudity be it painted or not. Art as is beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, we all have different opinions on the subject. I just don't see porn in anyway an art form. I will get down from my soap box now.

RE: Wayne Dickey "Yes Hawthorne has changed in the past 40 years and we have to change with the times"...
Wayne I truely hope this isn't the kind of change you are talking about...I quit wearing bell bottoms 20+ years ago and that's change...But you will never convince me that the crap we saw painted on those cars last Sat is "art" in any sense of the word, or that it doesn't go hand in hand with the "change" we have seen all too often and as recent as today in Fla...We are all of course entitled to our opinion as this forum we call feedback has again proven...It is also the type of free speech Sharon B. applauded a few days ago...So lets all enjoy the weekend designated to honor the men and women who fought to give us this right...Have a good one all and later Cougs..:o)

You quit wearing your bell bottoms??!! Can I have them?
Thanks Robin, Wayne, Judy, Liz, and the rest who've joined in this discussion. We might not agree on this issue, but we're all Cougs, so let's all go out and have a fun weekend. I know I'm heading for Janet's and we're gonna go watch the sunset with a nice bottle of wine and dinner in a basket. Great way to start the weekend I'd say. Have a great one Cougs and be safe.

Message: Well Mr. Dickey it is nice you moved to California BUT we don't have to change with the times. That is an argument that is so fallacious it robs us all of the moral fiber for which our country has and should stand. To say that the stuff John described is art, and it isn't, is like saying the CRAP they rap, I call it WRAP, is literature. Sure we live in a country that gives people the right to stand up and say we should all "off the Pigs" but is that a concept we want to embrace? Do we want to create idols who sell drugs to kids, shoot little kids cause he stepped in the path of my "Homie", or show pictures of women who act and dress in the ways that were described because they are either so smacked out on COKE, or speed, or heroine that they don't have any say in what they do or look like? That is really where the Hefner, Flynt folks have succeeded, using those folks. You can "Change" with the times Mr. Dickey, and conform to what you think is popular and cool, but it isn't right nor is it good or beneficial. Is that what you want for your children? Think about it! Free speech like any right guaranteed under the constitution is not an absolute, pornography should be illegal, should not be protected speech, and some of us will refuse to change with the times when the times they are wrong. We use to hear come on get with it, its the 90's. Well now we are the ZEROes, maybe Bob Dylan was right the times they are a changin'. Know what the TRUTH is and you won't be misled.
Now THAT folks is a TRUE "Rowdy"!!!
Thanks Jim for the backup, and you KNOW which line I'm standing in when it comes to "Changing with the times". I'm gonna be in that big LOOONG line of people right over there who want their kids to grow up in a positive environment. Heck, Hawthorne doesn't have to change with the times. If you want the drug lord, porno, "cop killah" atmosphere, move to South Central or Compton. Property is cheap there too. Know why? CUZ NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN THAT ENVIRONMENT!!!

Message: I have been catching up on some missed feedback, and noticed that some of you cougars seem to be offended by the murals on some cars (lowrider). Well as you know, I am and will always be a lowrider. I was not able to be at the car show, but I was told by Donna that these so called PORN CARS were nothing more then excellent examples of artistic art work. I have been painting these types of cars for some 30 years now, and never have found them offensive. I seem to remember going on a field trip in grade school and seeing more nudity in so called fine art, then were on these cars. As Liz stated earlier TV, Movies, Billboards, Magazines and almost every source of media have shown more then these so called PORN CARS. Yes Hawthorne has changed in the past 40 years and we have to change with the times. I find this type of airbrush work an art, not porn. We all know what really Porn is and I beleive these cars did not fit into that category. How dare you bash something that is so creative and unquie. I personally take offense from those who cannot open their eyes to the artistic beauty, and talent that was put into these cars. If you want a car show with cars that have been restored with after matket parts and no brains to but them together, then that's what type of show you will have (No Brainer). We want our kids to be creative but yet we cannot tell them what to paint on their cars. If it were "True Porn", then I would not agree, but I feel that this is a form of art!
Wayne, dude.........chill. You sound a little like a cross between Maxine Waters and the ACLU here. We aren't talking "string bikini nudity", which by the way, I'm kinda' in favor of. This was "Larry Flint, woman degrading PORN", pure and simple. When I see a Black drug lord painted on the trunk of a car, holding up a fistful of drug money in one hand and a 45 pistol in the other with a look of defiance on his face, and a couple of unclad women hanging on each arm, that's PORN....I don't care how artistically it's done. In other words, it's something I don't want MY Kids or Grandkids to APPRECIATE!! When I see a car called "Wet Dreams" and women in all sorts of sexual positions painted all over the car fondling their "Uh Huhs", and womens panties strewn on the ground around the car, THAT'S PORN. What does THAT have to do with a "Car Show"? You talk about after market parts. These guys didn't know one end of a combination wrench from the other. There was "nothing mechanical" to be appreciated. This part of the Car Show wasn't a "Car Show" it was a "Woman Degrading Porno Mural Show". I will add that this was in just one area, and the rest of the show was fine. I have nothing against the "Low Rider Mural Cars" in general, but I say the "PORN Mural Cars" are OUT!!

Message: To everyone in CT. Just wanted to say something about what I read about Memorial Day last year (3days after the event). Someone has written in our Oregonian Newspaper on how sad he was that people don't put up the American Flag to recognize those who not only have Protected our Great Nation but those who died for it and are not here enjoying what we have taken for granted. I'm sure there are alot of people who lost their love ones who would appreciate it if we support those who made this country free by hanging out their flags in support. You would not believe how proud I was putting up my flag yesterday because I am proud for those who have protected me and my family. Thanks Vets! I only wished I'd done this earlier in my life. So go out there and spend an extra $6-$8 bucks for a flag and let the nation know how much you care and appreciated their deeds.

I just traveled down memory lane, cruising through the pictures of the 95 reunion! What a trip! I remembered so many things, like walking to school with Rose across the street on 134th st. I can see Meryl pulling up to my house in her red VW for another nite of dancing at Baby Huey`s, and Dani and Kathy my dear partners in Girl Scout chaos. Do you Remember Donna, you, or Diane told me you could make your heart stop and I believed you! Hello Tom, my first "steady boyfriend" I hope some of you remember me. I saw a picture of Meryl and Carol together in one picture, It`s amazing nobody`s aged! So many people and places like Senior Square, the sacred epicenter of HHS. Seeing a movie for 10 cents a day for a week over lunch. What a time we had. RC cola`s and red licorice nature`s perfect food! Please write me tell me what you are up to. hopefully, Diane Robertson

Message: The A&W was on the corner of 136th and therefore, about 3 houses down from my front yard. I used to love to see the mutually agreed but tacit lineup of Corvettes etc. I was going to do a photo picture story of the place but it got closed down by the "city fathers". My recollection of the "downfall", as related by the Mayor of Hawthorne Jim Wedworth, (or was he a city council member at the time) - He was the owner of the Phil's Schwinn Bike Shop - was that the police caught some employee selling some pot from the back door of the kitchen and they thus justified bulldozing the place. I wonder if anyone can recall this?
May be true, but it's hard for me to believe that the Hawthorne City Council had the Gestapo power to "bulldoze the place" (a place that they didn't own) because of a misdemeaner. Does anyone know the truth?
