Message: Many THANKS to all the Cougs who replied to my Tortoise distress call!! Can a 100 year old tortoise still "do it"? Tricia, My little Feisty is a WOP (WithOut Papers) at the current time. I have the Fish and Game form coming from the California Turtle and Tortoise Club. They have tags you attach to the shell. It's only illegal to own undocumented tortoises...OH MY GOD!! I HAVE AN UNDOCUMENTED TORTOISE!!!! She was domestically bred, not taken from the wild. Hey Michael, your email came back...please email me again. John, what happend to your "grass eating" tortoise? Judy, Feisty wants to be the ROWDY mascot!!
Lastly, anyone interested in adopting two little 5 year old Terrier mixes? My client's 17 year old son has a potentially terminal illness and the doctor has ordered all potential alergins out, and the house sanitized. I'm fostering the family's two little Terrier mix dogs and am seeking a home for them. I have them clipped up like schnauzers. (I have a dog grooming business) They are very sweet and very good, called Clifford and Cuddles (I would have named them Love and Devotion). They are small (15 and 20 pounds) and must go together. If you are interested, please email me.
I would keep them but I already have 5 dogs, 4 cats, 3 parrots, 1 tortoise, 1 water turtle, 2 frogs, several goldfish and 1 husband. Boy, it's a good thing Randy and I never had children...can you imagine the zoo we would have? I must admit to being the guilty party. I drag most of the critters home. I'm also the one who takes care of them. I threaten my husband, almost daily, that one day I'll have a miniature horse. A HOUSE HORSE! Can you imagine the clip clop of little hooves around the house. The little whinney! He'll fit right through the doggie/horsie door! Just call me Ellie May Clampet!!
Gina, As Desert Tortoises live a LOOONNG TIME, I believe little "Shelly" is still wondering the yard on Cedar Av, looking for me, his little buddy. I think he dug a cave and that's the last we saw of him.
As to having babies, Carol Dunlap Calkins HHS61 has had the same two Desert Tortoises since she was in High School. Last year she found two half dollar sized tortoises in her back yard.

Message: Hello and Happy Easter to all Cougs! It sounds like you all had a blast at WCW. If I had been there I would have had to sneak in my Spanada or good old Ripple just to bring back the memories. Recently got in touch with Art LaMere, great talking to you on email and look forward to seeing you when you come through Texas. That invite is open to any Cougs passing along I-40, if you ever get Amarillo way and have time, stop by for coffee or a bite, I'd love to see you. Just a quick comment in response to old Hawthorne Music, somewhere in my old records I have a 45 of Dovie Modean. If I can dig it out, I'll try to record it onto a disk or tape. Have a great Holiday and remember God loves you and so do I. Bye for now Liz

Message: Hi there Bonnie McCoy! I remember you very well. Always envied that beach bunny blond hair and perfect skin. I had forgotten you were a Hot Box Girl until you mentioned it, but now remember you. As for the mini reunion in May, I can't commit. I live 800 miles away in Carson City (think "Tahoe") and unless it is a 4 day weekend, it looks pretty slim. My vacation time is pretty non existent (ski days in lieu of sick days Ha Ha) But hey how about thinking about a similar gathering up here for us Northern California and Nevada Cougars? Lake Tahoe would be perfect, nice beaches for camping, and plenty of hotels. The weather is great in July and August. I'd be willing to help put it together if any others are interested. I have seen Cougars claiming this area as home, and it would be great fun! And Hi to any one who may remember me here are a couple clues: I once dressed up as a Hot Dog while campaigning for a friend running for Victory Queen, and on my 17th birthday I came to school to see a huge poster on building 4 with 3 foot letters that said "HAPPY 17 BIRTHDAY LORI HOLMES" sure made me feel special all day, and I am sure good old Gary Mann was the chief instigator. That's Cougar friendship!

Sharon Willis...hello there, this is Mary Aceves' little sister here. Hey, are the Ely's that you are spending Easter with related to Bret Ely? I'm just curious because an old HHS bud of mine from way back, Teri Painter, married Bret, and I have been trying to find her. And, a guy in here named Richard Dines, is looking for Teri's older brother, Russ, who used to play in a band with him. If you could do me the honor of a favor and find out if they are relations of Bret's, I'd greatly appreciate it, and then, I could also help this guy find her brother, if I find Teri, that is. Thanks a bunch!
And to Cheryl Nicocia...an old friend of mine, Barb Boice, that I used to work with, is now in Keno, Oregon. She loves it there. She just married a retired doctor there by the name of John Boice...do you know him? He has been there for ages, so I've heard.

The cheeses here in Oregon are totally good. Talk about beaches. Oregon kind of reminds me of home because we do have our very own "Manhattan Beach", Oregon. And this message to Arno Portegros, Michelle is due to have a baby REAL soon so look up her email on the alumni list. Last week she told me she's expecting a baby boy. And now does anyone remember the "Other" tornado that touched down (barely) in Hawthorne? I do believe it was in 1975 or 76 and it was near Memorial Park (a few blocks away south) It tore a roof off a house and that's all I could see. So, would that make "2" for Hawthorne? Now another flashback for you 60's folks. Do you remember the MIA/POW bracelet we would wear on our wrist in support for the love ones? I had one for Capt Mark Smith and I got to see him at home being interviewed by Larry Carroll of Channel 7 News.

However, I was forced to withdraw from the tasting part as a good stiff swig of GORDO~RED (Gordon Bell's home brew) ruined my taste buds for all 3 days. UPDATE: ROWDY Linda Chesson is out of surgery (don't ask) and will be back in action very soon. Hang in there Linda~~ Good to meet Cheryl Nicocia, Tonya Hobson, Ed and Jan Carpenter and all the rest. Janet Burkett, John Baker and Glenn..thanks again for all the efforts that paid off 1000 fold. I love you Janny..thanks for "everything" and for being S.W. (don't ask) All this is called "MAKING MEMORIES for the rocking chair"..and it's just begun. If you miss it, you'll have to just sit in that rocking chair with your El Molino's and recall what you can instead of living it again right now. Hey John.. back to the drawing board to work on my velcro prom dress.. a little floor length number with 3/4 sleeves & an empire waist for me.. I'll tape a flask of ~Gordo Red~ to my thigh..(hope it doesn't blow) Hey! I'm 53 years old~whattaya want!!
Now.. IOLAPD Judy DeGrazia THE ROWDYS.
Judy, Gordo Red only comes in "Extra Large" bottles. It'll be better to tape it to the outside of your thigh and tell the teacher chaperones at the door that it's a "thigh gouter". They'll never pat you down after that. Get well Linda. We won't ask.... Thanks Judy

7am to 9am, 9am to 11, 11am to 1pm. All money goes to Cougartown. Please, I need people to help, Contact me at my E-mail, LCuiper@aol.com.
Also John, Melanie asked if you would like a booth to sell our Cougartown Shirts, If so please contact Melanie if you are interested. I will help you schedule the workers for your booth if you want my help.
One more last thing, this is regarding the HHS Alumni Directory, I am helping Melanie on this too. The Harris company will put this book together for us, but we need to submit information and to make it more interesting, we are getting together pictures of the Alumni, Teachers, Principals, anything that is history we have pictures of the 50's,60's,80's and 90's, but, no 70's. Would anyone out there be able to help with the 70's. Please send your pictures (for any years) to: Loretta Cuiper 5170 west 137th Place, Hawthorne, Ca 90250. We also need information of classmates who have made a name for there self, such as Doctors, Attorneys, Actress/Actors/Singers, Coaches, Ball Players, etc, send us any information you have, the more we have the better the book will be. I must tell you that the Harris Co are the ones who chose what will go into the book as far as pictures, but if we could have that list of classmates who made it, we know about the Al Jardine and Brian Wilson of the 60 class, but what about classmates that came from your class let us know. I will need this information before the 2nd of May. Please help..
Thank you
Loretta, Thanks for stepping up to the plate. I knew it would be a 62er that would volunteer. OK folks, we need a few more volunteers for the coffee booth. I'll have to check on the T shirt situation. I'll let you know, but put me down for a couple of hours in the coffee booth where ever you need me.

Message: Hi everyone!! Hope you had a great wine on your time weekend!! I need HELP!! I have just acquired a Desert Tortoise and it's laying eggs! Does anyone out there, by chance, have a boy tortoise who would like to have a good time?
Any info on diet etc. would be great, as I've only ever had dogs, cats and parrots. I planted a beautiful garden for her of what I thought would be plenty for her to eat. I put in a doz different lettuce plants, mint, thyme, basil, rosemary, 6 chard plants etc. "Feisty the egg laying Tortoise" has mowed down 6 whole Romaine plants in 4 days...what else should I plant? Someone out there has had these creatures, I'm sure of it. Please share any knowledge.
Also, Catalina Island was great last week. You guys didn't do too much damage on Senior ditch day. I'm headed back, soon, to celebrate my birthday and spend a glorious week reading in the sun. No phone, no tv, no voicemail...just my bestest friend and me, at the edge of the sea, watching the tide roll in.
My tortoise ate grass back in grade school.
