Message: Wow! I just reviewed the last 10 or so pages of Feedback. I saw a lot of names I remember, but I guess I'm going to have to search for the yearbooks in the top of the garage so I can put faces to the names. I read a lot of things to bring back old memories, some good, some great! Elizabeth Estrada is right... hers was the best street. These pages reminded me of my first car, a 57 Ford POS which I bought from my brother-in-law, Dave Shippey for $300. I had helped him rebuild the engine, which was strong, but I blew 3 trannies in two years. The last time it went, I parked the car in the driveway, and left for the Air Force. Well, that changed my life forever, and reading these pages has brought some really fond memories of my youth flooding back. Thanks for doing this. I know it's got to be a lot of work, but it's sure worth it for all of us. BTW, if anyone remembers me, say hello.
Hey Joe, It's a lot of work AND it's worth it. Thanks for checking in and spread the word.

(sorry Janny) Hey Angel Karen Hare.. had to laugh at your feedback about the RED WAGON~~because when I started driving my mom had an old RED STATION WAGON too- (green interior) that we nicknamed RESCUE 8. I never saw anything sooo red and soo big in my life..(don't go there John) and to think that us ROWDYS use to think we could slip it off campus (smoking) without being seen. Boy were we stupid. That red station wagon stood out like a bleeding elephant in the snow. Hey Leroy Felderuster~~we thought you went to that big hootinany in the sky. See you at PINK'S. Alan Hauge, this time we'll carry Sherry Peppers Wingo into Alcatraz. (can inmate sue the warden for a sprained ankle?) Message: Hey, Loretta! Looks like you and I came to this page for the same reason.... Beach Boys. A little while back I posted a message here inquiring why the city of Hawthorne hasn't made more of their favorite sons. No memorial where their house stood. No "Welcome to Hawthorne- Home of The Beach Boys" signs. Still working on that.
Well, thanks to the fine alumni of Hawthorne High, Tom Quintana from the Hawthorne School District and some other very helpful folks IN Hawthorne I have found out some great tidbits. Did you know the Beach Boy's house WASN'T torn down? It's still in use. Mr. Quintana informed me that it (and a few other homes) were relocated a block or two away as part of some government housing project. Tom said he saw it shortly after relocation (as it was bright pink!). Since then, it has been repainted and no one can remember which house is the Wilson house. Anybody remember??? This is great stuff for a Beach Boy sleuth like myself.....
As for Hawthorne, it's ok. It's not nearly as bad as some would have you believe. I live in Carson which is probably about the same.
Anyways, I still think there should be a guided tour of the key BB areas. The Beatle's got 'em, why not America's best?
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info Rob. I'll see if Tom knows where it was relocated to. (HCH, Can I say that?)

Message: Hi John, Thank you for mentioning that Hawthorne is not a bad place to live. Your right it is not like it was when we were growing up. Is it anywhere else? Times do change, we can not keep all things the same. As far as Hawthorne, we have some great parts of Hawthorne that have made progress, yes alot of places have been torn down to make way of better. We still have the best AYSO, Little League and Softball fields in the Wiseburn District. we have excellent school's through Hawthorne. There are the bad areas, but the better areas out number the bad. Hawthorne High may not be like it was when we went there, but it also is very over crowded, we need at least one more High School, they did re-open Lawndale, but one more at the North end of Hawthorne would really help. When we talk about neighborhoods, most families care about their next door neighbor. We still have a great town. Those who talk down about our town, just see that it is not the same as it was 20 years ago or better and please tell me what town is the same. All towns have there good side and the bad side. As far as Hawthorne, there is a big sign as you drive into our town and it says "THE TOWN OF GOOD NEIGHBORS"
So to anyone who wants to visit Hawthorne do not be afraid, we are no different than any other town. So John draw that map, I know I have gone on about this, but I still have some pride for this town! Thanks John for letting me get on the soap box!!
Anytime Loretta, We all still have good feelings for OUR Hawthorne, whether it was 40 years ago or 10 years.

Message: Hey Jim Sloey I am still around, thanks for asking about me.
I just check in and read feed back most the time. But now that I am in here I am going to tell a little story. How many of you ever borrowed your parents car, without their permission.
Well when I was 15 , and could barely drive and of course had no license I decided to go for a drive in my parents 57 red Ford station wagon. My neighbor Bob Stelse and I believe one of the Willcoxson boys went with me. I drove down the steet too fast and when it came time to turn right I turned, hit the island on Aviation, bounced back to the other side of the street just missing Chris Ritchie's mom's car, and giving our's a flat tire. Well of course I was shook then and had no idea what to do. We were near a field so we changed the flat left it in the field and drove the car home parked it and never said a word to my parents. I never got caught, but my dad thought someone stole the tire off the car and put the spare on. He never thought I would take it for a joy ride, and I never did it again.
Paul Clark, I am still waiting on the where abouts of Sandra Lowrance 67). Does anyone know where she is? John Crotty please tell Georgette hi for me, we were in Brownies and Girl Scouts together, I lived 2 blocks from you on 123rd and Isis growing up, and King Darlin you are special as ever. See you Friday at Pink's...Angel K
Yes, I did the "borrow dad's car" thing and DID get caught. I probably told that one here somewhere before. OK Karen, see you Friday.

Knocked off the team that beat us in the county semi-finals last year...if we can win two more, we're the champs of SD county. Told him how, some times, you have to wait to "pay-back" (eg. 59-66 in HHS football), but he got it in one year...YEAH BABY!

For all of you who don't understand what Alan's (HHS61) talking about, he owns a movie studio and on a stage at his studio is a replica of cell block 7(?) at Alcatraz. The set was used in the movie, "Escape from Alcatraz" It's pretty neat and we don't even have to break in to see it. Bring directions Alan, and we'll see who wants to do the Pinks/Prison thing. Thanks man and we'll see you on Friday night.

Message: Ok, you probably hate it that most people who didn't go to Hawthorne are only here for one reason... those famous Boys. (It's a heck of a lot more than my High School ever produced, though!) Anyway, I was considering a trip to California to see all the places relevant to them. Capitol Records, etc. I get mixed reviews when I mention going to Hawthorne... (Besides the fact that their old home was torn down) I hear that Hawthorne is not the place it used to be. Some say its not that bad, others say you couldn't pay them to go into Hawthorne. What's the real scoop? Also, would you ever consider putting all the information, (where the house used to be, the hangouts, the high school is, etc.) on a map and onto this website?
What a NEAT site, by the way. I wish my High School would do something like this!
Thanks! Merrell
Hey Merrell, What Boys? Actually HHS produced lots of famous people (Curtis Conway, Scott Laidlaw, Mike Marsh, Ron Mix, Mike Scott, Mike Gillespie, many many doctors, teachers, and of course the Jim Sloeys of the planet; the lawyers). The Beach Boys just had the best publicist. Marilyn Monroe grew up in Hawthorne, and went to Washington School.
Hawthorne today is NOT the Hawthorne of my youth, but I still own property there, and am not afraid to walk the streets. I will do a map page too. The Wilsons, BTW, lived on the corner of Kornblum and 119th, which is now the number 3 lane of the 105 FWY.
Hawthorne High is on the corner on Inglewood Av and El Segundo Bl.
The Hangouts, I will list on the map, and thanks for the interest.
