Message=I had the best time of my life while attending H.H.S. These were good times for everyone there. I miss crusing the A&W, and Hawthorne Blvd. I miss the people from 26th street Manhattan Beach. We had some great summer parties, day or night. If anyone reads this and can remember all the good times, they to should respond to your site. Let's all make an effort to stay in contact. we all have a common bond, that we all attended H.H.S. at one time or another. I know some of our alumni are no longer with us, but that is more reason for all of us to contact each other, for who knows how long we ourselves have. May good health be with all of you. Message=Dear John, just discovered your web site, and I think it is great, I grew up here in good old Hawthorne, but went to Hawthorne High, many moons after you. I was a part of the class of 74', but I have many memories as a kid growing up here in the 60's. I still miss the onion bun, hamburgers from whites bakery, and do you remember the little trolly that ran through the center of town, during the holidays? Remember Chaney's department store? And thoses movies they used to play at the "Plaza?" I was also active in many of the youth groups here in town during their hey day. Girl scouts, Job's Daughters, Rainbow, my Dad used to help out with the Eagle Scout program here in town, my Mom actually started the Christmas craft program at Eucalyptus school, and was very active in the PTA, along with Cleona Crozier. We live next door to the Orth boy's, Tommy and Wayne. I remember going over and bugging them during their jam sessions in the garage, I had a crush on Wayne, when I was in kindergarden. I followed Wayne around like a puppy, when I was little. I also remember the Hawthorne Youth Band, we later became very good friends with Dr. Morgan. Also, do you remember the tornado, that ripped the roof off of Eucalyptus school?
Yours truly, Polly Beach Martens H.H.S., Class of 74'

He also did some design work on the side. He seemed a lot more relaxed than what I remember him as in Hawthorne. Seemed to be a good move for him and his family.

My dad also lived in Lomita and then LaPuente. Sold cars at Vel's Ford in Torrance and Ken Rogey Ford in West Covina. I lived about a stones throw from Lions off of Santa Fe. Raced a 55 Nomad with a Mark I Chevy 427 that I bought from Don Nicholson. Later ran at strips on the East Coast (York, Pa), Oswego and Rockford, IL. Now race at the NHRA strip in Edinburg Tx. Racing a 77 Chev stepside with a mighty mouse!! Gotta love it!!

Funny working across the street from his Jr. High! (Bob, not me.) Message=What a totally cool site! Thanks John. Now I'd like to hear from other '78 alumni about our 20 YEAR REUNION! I'm still in shock that it will be 20 years this next year...I'm alive and well, married with two children ages 4 and 18 months, living in the beautiful city of Boise, located in the Gem State of Idaho. I work for the state's largest utility company writing and editing their employee newsletter. All four kids in our family graduated from HHS including: Janice Stutts, Class of 1972; Gerald Stutts, Class of 1974; myself, Class of 1978; and our brother Glen Stutts, Class of 1980. Sadly, Glen died of AIDS two years ago. If he were still here, he'd love this site too. In addition, I am still in contact with Lori Holmes, Class of 1981 and Laurie Elliott, Class of 1976 (I think) and her brother, Tom Elliott and Julie Waters, Donna Eccard, Donna White (Perley) and Karen Mann (Peterson) all from the Class of 1978. All my best to you, John, and I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers me and the fun times we had at good ol' HHS.

John:
Thanks for the great page!!! I went to Westchester High, but spent almost all of my life (and gas money) crusin or racing between the A&W and the Wich Stand. We were all very lucky to live at that rare time in American History when you could go to the Century or other drive in with your girl without taking an uzi or a 45.
I really do thank you for all your hard and heart-felt work in preserving these precious moments to remind people, like myself, of truly "kinder and gentler" times. Yours Truly
,A. Friend

The other two parks were at Broadway and 122nd before they tore 'em down to make room for the mall. I lived around 116th and Menlo from 1960 to 1978. Probably class of 64 or 65. I lived next door to him, and was much younger. I'm class of '75. I think I learned to write because of Adrian, who was into Edgar Allan Poe. Because of him, I memorized The Raven in first grade.
trivia: The Plaza Theater was at 126th and Grevillea, in a long-gone traffic circle that now serves the Hawthorne Mall as a parking lot.
