Message=I had the best time of my life while attending H.H.S. These were good times for everyone there. I miss crusing the A&W, and Hawthorne Blvd. I miss the people from 26th street Manhattan Beach. We had some great summer parties, day or night. If anyone reads this and can remember all the good times, they to should respond to your site. Let's all make an effort to stay in contact. we all have a common bond, that we all attended H.H.S. at one time or another. I know some of our alumni are no longer with us, but that is more reason for all of us to contact each other, for who knows how long we ourselves have. May good health be with all of you. "Go Cougars Forever"
Message=Dear John, just discovered your web site, and I think it is great, I grew up here in good old Hawthorne, but went to Hawthorne High, many moons after you. I was a part of the class of 74', but I have many memories as a kid growing up here in the 60's. I still miss the onion bun, hamburgers from whites bakery, and do you remember the little trolly that ran through the center of town, during the holidays? Remember Chaney's department store? And thoses movies they used to play at the "Plaza?" I was also active in many of the youth groups here in town during their hey day. Girl scouts, Job's Daughters, Rainbow, my Dad used to help out with the Eagle Scout program here in town, my Mom actually started the Christmas craft program at Eucalyptus school, and was very active in the PTA, along with Cleona Crozier. We live next door to the Orth boy's, Tommy and Wayne. I remember going over and bugging them during their jam sessions in the garage, I had a crush on Wayne, when I was in kindergarden. I followed Wayne around like a puppy, when I was little. I also remember the Hawthorne Youth Band, we later became very good friends with Dr. Morgan. Also, do you remember the tornado, that ripped the roof off of Eucalyptus school?
Yours truly, Polly Beach Martens H.H.S., Class of 74'
Message=Dorsey High School, Class of 62.
Message=John, You have a great Website, keep up the good work. It's a treat to read and it's nice to know that someone had the initiative to create a site dedicated to the good old days we spent at Hawthorne High, it's also addictive, I find myself dropping in at least weekly to see what's new. You can add my name to the E-Mail listing. Willie
Message=Hello, Reading the rememberances of different people brings back many fond memories about life in Hawthorne in the 50's and 60's. Thanks John for a fun place to visit and remember.
Message=I am looking for whoever was or is "secretary" for my class reunions. Since I've missed a couple of them, I'd like to find the person who took pictures, collected addresses, etc. so I can at least mail out Xmas cards or something. Also, isn't there a page of teachers' pix, updates, etc.? I'd especially love to hear from Lili Dana, Jim Patrick, Gayle McQuown, John Roebuck, Liz Joba-- and anyone else in Seminar, GAA, art, even the hateful little b-----s in my scout troop. Thanks for your interest and this site. Bye for now.--Suzy Beal
Message=Thanks for this, I really enjoyed looking at it!!!
Message=Reply about Mr. Claypool: It has been almost 10 years now when I saw him (wow, time sure flys. At that time, he had bought a burger joint in Tehacapi, outside of Mojave. He also did some design work on the side. He seemed a lot more relaxed than what I remember him as in Hawthorne. Seemed to be a good move for him and his family.
Message=Remember drag racing on the strip layed out on Century Blvd. Some of the guys I ran with, Tom Newton, Genny Grissom. I married a gal from 139th and Hawthorne while I was stationed in CA. My dad also lived in Lomita and then LaPuente. Sold cars at Vel's Ford in Torrance and Ken Rogey Ford in West Covina. I lived about a stones throw from Lions off of Santa Fe. Raced a 55 Nomad with a Mark I Chevy 427 that I bought from Don Nicholson. Later ran at strips on the East Coast (York, Pa), Oswego and Rockford, IL. Now race at the NHRA strip in Edinburg Tx. Racing a 77 Chev stepside with a mighty mouse!! Gotta love it!!
Message=I worked at Xerox on Aviation Blvd. across from Dana School for about 10 years. A classmate of mine, Bob Kollin, is still at Xerox there, as far as I know. Funny working across the street from his Jr. High! (Bob, not me.) I went to Hawthorne Intermediate in a rowdy class with Steve Andersen, Rudy Johnson, Karen Zirbel, Barbara Pletcher, Charlie Meyers, Duane Maeda, (oops, those three went to Leuzinger!!) Remember Mr. Parker? Try spelling it backwards. We did!
Message=cool site! Amazing what pops up when ye type Hawthorne into the ol' Yahoo box!! Anyone know what happened to Mr. Claypool?
Message=I moved away from Hawthorne between my Junior and Senior years, and consequently did not graduate from HHS. Nevertheless, I grew up in Hawthorne, and many of my most vivid recollections are of persons and places from Hawthorne. A recent voice from the past has blown open a door to a room full of memories. So, "Hi!" to old friends and acquaintences.
Note: Welcome home Adrian. Come on in and shut the door.
Message=What a totally cool site! Thanks John. Now I'd like to hear from other '78 alumni about our 20 YEAR REUNION! I'm still in shock that it will be 20 years this next year...I'm alive and well, married with two children ages 4 and 18 months, living in the beautiful city of Boise, located in the Gem State of Idaho. I work for the state's largest utility company writing and editing their employee newsletter. All four kids in our family graduated from HHS including: Janice Stutts, Class of 1972; Gerald Stutts, Class of 1974; myself, Class of 1978; and our brother Glen Stutts, Class of 1980. Sadly, Glen died of AIDS two years ago. If he were still here, he'd love this site too. In addition, I am still in contact with Lori Holmes, Class of 1981 and Laurie Elliott, Class of 1976 (I think) and her brother, Tom Elliott and Julie Waters, Donna Eccard, Donna White (Perley) and Karen Mann (Peterson) all from the Class of 1978. All my best to you, John, and I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers me and the fun times we had at good ol' HHS.
Message=john, this is great! i have been looking for danny litton forever! this should be really helpful to reunion committees. brings back a lot of good memories. Hawthorne was a great place to grow up, unfortunately i ddin't! And let me pose this question, when you have traveled around this great country and someone ask where are you from and you reply HAWTHORNE, Ca And they ask do you know the beach boys? How many say besides me, very well we use to the cruise the A and the Witches stand (is that spelled right?) be honest! Garnet Pollard, me and Litton will stand you and Willie or Mike in a little 1/2 court. No fouls! Brian Wilson call some time, it has been awhile! And I saw where someone mentioned that Sid Semon referees in the NFL. #109 Headlinesman, he has done 3 Super Bowls which means he has graded out during the year as the best headlinesman in the league. He has also done a lot of the playoff games too! thanks again John! this is really great! What about Fosters!?
Note: I'm Glad you found us Jim and I will put Fosters up in the Hangouts area soon.
Message=Although I did not attend Hawthorne HS (I was in nearby Inglewood), I had a number of friends who did. One who comes to mind, of course, was a former high school sweetheart who, I believe, graduated in the class of '61. Her name is/was Sherry Schrecongost. If she has access to this website, or if someone out there knows or remembers her, I would like to say hi and thanks for the memories. The last time I saw her was in 1960 when I enlisted in the Army. Thanks.
Note: Has anyone seen Sherry lately?
Message=Class of '65 where is our Reunion? We had a great time and out lasted the class of '85 So lets get online.
Note: Garnett Pollard, are you listening?
Message=Alive and well in Denver, Colorado
Message=Hi to Bill McReynolds and other members of Beethoven's 5th One of the great Hawthorne Garage bands of the middle sixties. Dick Lorig - Drums
Message=I love this site. Keep up the good work
Message=Will someone tell one of the guys who went to CalTech/MIT to get a good site for the Class of 75 going? Didn't David Wang invent the net?
Message=It's great to hear about all the teachers I once had. Really glad to hear that Danny Fix is riding his Harley around Manhatten. If anyone knows how I could contact him, let me know. I read where someone was asking about Mr. Wing. Somewhere back in my mind I think I heard he had died. He was definitely very influential in my musical life. I live in Encinitas, CA now with my two children. My son and I run a multidisciplinary research center. I hope to hear from other '72 grads.
Message=I moved to Europe in 1984 for my Senior Year, but I'll always consider myself a HHS alumni!
Note: Karen, We consider you an alumni also. Welcome aboard.
Message=Does anyone remember Chuck Wigley in "Lou" Tenna's history class? Does "be that as it may" ring a bell? How about Mr. Kyllonen (biology) constantly saying "Don't you think it would be nice?" Does anyone remember who it was who blew up the chemistry class? How about 3 on 3 basketball in the evenings between 7 and 10? Great job on the HHS web page. Keep up the good work!
Message=Just looked at the pictures from the 62 reunion. Saw Carol Moody DeWald. I knew her and her brother Ron. Her husband Don was in my mother's 4th grade class!
Message=The 352 Club got its name from its old address before Hawthorne went to the LA County numbering system. For example, I lived at 811 Jefferson, which was at the corner of 135th and Jefferson. Now the address there is probably 13501.
Message=Great web site!
Message=What do the words "Mr. Sweeney" conjure up?
Message=I am happy that you came up with this web page. I am trying to get a '87 reunion started. Anyone interested please E-Mail me. If anyone began HHS in '83 please E-Mail me also.
Thanks for the great page!!! I went to Westchester High, but spent almost all of my life (and gas money) crusin or racing between the A&W and the Wich Stand. We were all very lucky to live at that rare time in American History when you could go to the Century or other drive in with your girl without taking an uzi or a 45.
I really do thank you for all your hard and heart-felt work in preserving these precious moments to remind people, like myself, of truly "kinder and gentler" times. Yours Truly
Message: Thank you John Baker ('62) for developing this site on your own. You have done a great job!! NOTICE FOR CLASS OF '65 -- if you have updated personal info (i.e. - address changes, e-mail addresses, etc.), please feel free to send e-mail to me at email@example.com - I am working with Cathy Krause (reunion committee chairperson) to get the GREAT class of '65 up and online and will make sure she gets your info. Cathy needs updates to maintain an accurate mailing list for reunion newsletters and notices. Also, anyone seen or know where Willie Johnson ('64) is? Hey, why aren't the Beach Boys in here too? Lot of people knew the Wilson family - maybe they could do a free gig for a united class reunion some day - yeh, right - dream on Garnett!!

Message =Hi John! Visited your web site today after getting an e-mail from a friend with the info...it is just TERRIFIC! Would love to see it develop more year-specific information, since I know I was there quite a few years after you. I was born in 1960, and lived in Hawthorne from 1960 to 1987. What a great web site! My sister Carol Molay (Mann) graduated 1976, and my cousin Gary Mann graduated 1982. Hope you get info on the Class of 1978 Twenty Year Reunion, should be sometime next year! I would love to read about plans on that, but don't know who to contact. Thanx again for the great site...it's bitchin'! Karen Peterson (Mann)

Message = Hi..my name is Kathy (Lorig) Stonebraker HHS class of '76. The Plaza Theater was located at 126th Street and Acacia in one of 3 diamond shaped parks. The other two parks were at Broadway and 122nd before they tore 'em down to make room for the mall. I lived around 116th and Menlo from 1960 to 1978. If the name Stonebraker sounds familiar, I'm married to Steve Stonebraker (HHS class of '74) whose dad was Chief of Police for Hawthorne in the late '80's. Thanks for the cool web site and thanks for keeping everyone up on reunions and such. I can't wait to tell everyone I know from Hawthorne to check it out.
Class of = 1981
Message = First of all thanks to John for having this page available to all cougars to view and to leave a message for their respective class. My name is Ron Teh and I attended Hawthorne High from 1977-1981. I played tennis all four years under the guidance of coach Sid Semon (officiates in the NFL), took German class under Mr. Grahamer. I remembered a few friends during those good and unforgettable years like: Marjorie Berkel, Valerie Akers, Johnny Foster, and Chris Tully. If you guys are on line, please feel free to contact me or anyone from the class of '81. By the way I had a sister, Mylene, who also attended Hawthorne from 1977-1979. Well, that's it for now. From the great state of Hawaii, Mahalo and Aloha!

Message = John - visited your site and loved it. Thanks for taking the time to contact alums via Hotmail. Question to HHS fiftysomethings: anyone remember someone named Adrian Reynolds? Probably class of 64 or 65. I lived next door to him, and was much younger. I'm class of '75. I think I learned to write because of Adrian, who was into Edgar Allan Poe. Because of him, I memorized The Raven in first grade.
trivia: The Plaza Theater was at 126th and Grevillea, in a long-gone traffic circle that now serves the Hawthorne Mall as a parking lot.
