Message: Hello JB and all, just thought I'd check in and remind you to enjoy a couple of chili dogs for me at Pinks. I need to ask a memorabilia question. Does anyone remember the name of the little store on the corner of 118th and Oxford (or was it Freeman) anyway it was owned by a Chinese family and when we lived on Menlo (1960-63) I used to stop there and get chum-gum and 2 cent cinammon pops. Anyone remember the name? Hello to Christine Penny. You are the first Texas Hawthornian that I have seen check in here. I live in Amarillo and graduated a bit before you. But you are from home and that is all that counts. Email me if you wish to chat. Bye for now Liz

Hi, This is Leo from Fosters Freeze.
It is kind of late to say thank you for spending cruise night at Fosters Freeze. This is my pleasure to have cruise night. I am looking forward to seeing you all in the summer.
Thanks.

Thank you Leo for your hospitality on Cruise Night. I know everyone has a fun time at Fosters and we will do it again in June or July. We do appreciate you letting us get together at one of our favorite hangouts.

Hope all you Cougs out there have a good week.

Message: Hey JB, thanks for the delivery of the T-shirts, they look great! Do you ever have weekend runs to Pinks? During the week makes it tough if you have to drive a ways, especially if you have to get up early the next morning. Don't think we'll be able to make it this Wednesday, maybe next time!
Sure, there's nothing special about Wednesdays. In fact I've had a few requests to change to another night. Next time we'll change it.

Message: Since we seem to be mentioning other Foster/Dairy Freezes...I was wondering ...what was at 118th and Hawthorne Blvd, (I think)? You know just across the street from Kressges and the Mop Shop and such. Or am I way off, as usual? Speaking of which...Does anyone else remember the Mop Shop, and the 'guy' ") that use to cut hair there? I 'always' had 'him' cut my hair...sigh... It was right next to a Bank, I think, in the Kreessges shopping center. What else was there...Clarks, and ????? I noticed a few mentioning when they left CA.... I got out of California the Dec. after I graduated, 76. Returned for a short time, right back to Hawthorne, in 83-84, then up north to Santa Maria, for about 7 years. Then here to Texas, some 10 years ago. But I must say....although I may have left CA, the CA has never left this gal. It's ingrained or something. And please help me if I ever claim to be a Texas girl! eeeeek! My husband moves me here, and I can't stand country music...what was he thinking?
Hi Christine, I remember what was across the street, East, from Kresges. When I was growing up it was a Chinese Mom and Pop market. Now it's a Chief auto parts store, but I don't remember what was there in the mid-70's. The bank that you're thinking of was, I think, a Crocker Bank.

Hey Myrn', I'm not sure as to the statistics but as I recall about 50 people had expressed interest and lots more have emailed but never filled out the questionnaire. As to a bus ride from here to there, Loren Heath has said the he has an in with a tour bus outfit. I will talk to him on Wednesday night and find out more. It would be great if Gordon shows too. Message: I didn't "get out" of So.Cal till 95'. Now Oregon is a very beautiful state and I had been wanting to get out of the LA area since the late 60's. But after moving here it didn't take too long to realize that people, particularly my two brothers, my mom and my wife's family who all live there in California , are much more important than living in Oregon. Plus all the friends we left behind. Well we are adjusting and making the best of it but I think we would really prefer to be back in So. California. Besides it's a long drive from Portland to Foster's.
But lots closer from Portland to Sonoma in April Larry.

Message: Message for Jean Chesson, First Hi nice to see your face on Cougartown, Second do you remember me, and Third I think most of '67 were smart enough to get out of CA or SoCal while the getting was good. There are lots of us here in Oregon. Not that I don't like all the traffic, smog, people, but little ole Coos Bay is great!!!! A question John. Lisa Graham Dulin and myself were wondering if you really cruised on cruise night or just hung around in the parking lot? Also just because I don't want to look and look, did anyone mention the first Foster Freeze at the corner of 133rd and Haw. Blvd. I know guys that had hot cars hung there, because I was just a wee child and would walk to the corner (probably with an Estrada girl) and just be so excited that the "cute" guys were there. One more thing what is this cousin-in-law bit with Marsha ? Did I miss something? Do I need to send a gift? What What What ? It's just so lonely when the computer goes down. Glad you all had fun at Fosters. I myself spent many a weekend there. Was Billy C. or Boss Ross there. I read mention of Chuck and Cindy, I'm assuming my brother was there. He's a good coug.
First, No we didn't actually cruise on Saturday. Second, the OTHER Fosters was a Dairy Freeze that we called Frosties and that was the BIG hangout of the two hangouts. It actually was where the racers and the surfers hung on the weekends in the early 60's

Message: It is truly amazing the memories that flood back in after seeing some names from the past. One of our more recent arrivals brought back the time that I, and a few partners in crime, had her "almost" convinced that apples would prevent pregnancy. We explained that the phrase "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" derived from that fact. It was all harmless fun, done at one of the after school gatherings on the lawn, and not meant to rob her of her virtue in some sinister way. I'll leave you Cougars to figure out who she was, unless she is willing to come forward and fess up.:)

It sounds like you all had a great time and I feel bad about not being there. Thanks JB for the rootbeer float. I enjoyed it through you in spirit. Do you have these reunions at the freeze annually? And how often are the pinks runs. I could sure use a big messy chili dog right now. Jan Chauncey showed up at this cruise? How great. I too was inspired by her to want to cheer. Regrets, regrets. Speaking of ... I stand corrected on my earlier comment about Heidi W beating me out of my chance to be in the running for song queen in 1972. It wasn't her. It was Janet Williams. Oh well... thanks for the pix ( especially of the fair) wow am I homesick. Talk to you soon. Liz
Thanks Liz, There will be more pictures. I just haven't had the chance to get them on the website yet. Stay tuned. There are 2 Fosters Cruise Nights a year and Pinks runs are whenever we feel the need for a chili dog.
