Message: Well, where do I start? I have to admit that I had and absolutely wonderful quick, last-minute trip down to LAX which allowed me a leisure visit with our King and two of our Princes. (Hey Sloey, notice that there is only one "s" on the end of that word). I knew that John and Jim were going to be part of the visit (after all I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie, Thelma and Colby at their home) but the big surprise that nearly did me in was Robin being there!!! I have to admit that the visit was a little "tense" when Robin started drooling, but I decided that I would just consider the source, then everything was just fine! We talked, we laughed, and we harrassed (that is one word) each other. Then when John, Robin and I were leaving, Jim proceeded to warn me that we all dropped a few secrets so I better be careful what I put on feedback. Now....... I don't think I let too much out of my bag, but oh, those guys.... they can talk without thinking! (You know the story about the two getting married from the Class of 62? Think about from which class our King became an alumnus. Talking to him, I had the distinct impression that he had a major event happening quite soon in his life, one that would be "life-changing". He didn't exactly "spell it out", but then, we have been friends for many, many years, and he wanted to give me some inside scoop. (I hope this doesn't offend you King JB, I really don't want to "spill-the-beans"! But, I find it sooooo exciting!!!!!) Jim swore himself to secrecy, and Robin said he would try to keep it to himself, but you know how those guys will stick together. Somehow, in all the excitement of the moment, JB forgot to ask me to keep the info to myself.
Judy - had a little update on your boo-boo to come, and at least the guys reduced my curiosity level a bit. Hope all goes well for you! Don't let those royalty guys get to you. All us Rowdy's are supposed to stick together, and those guys haven't quite figured that out.
Christine - want to let you know that I got to a funeral reception out at a "in the country" ranch a few years ago, somehow (?) got distracted and ended up locking my keys in the car with the engine running - luckily, I had left the moon-roof popped up and we were able to get a hoe handle down and kit the auto door locks. Good thing it wasn't the car I have now! - And.... don't bad mouth those "old-fashioned hose" with the seam up the back. Those with a little more maturity than you only had those for an option for many years. Sorry we won't make it to homecoming (I knew you wouldn't call JB), but we will be at the Wine Country Cougartown Special!!! Have a good day all, and Jim - thanks so much to you and Debbie and Thelma and Colby for your hospitality and the great meal!!! It was a GREAT time!!!!!!!!!!
Myrna, The FIRST thing I want to know is why were you locked out of your car at a funeral, with a HOE in your possession?? Sorry Christine, but I may have prematurely given you the "First Annual-Weekly-Peroxide of the Month" award.
See, I was going to keep this all quiet, but not NOW!!! Nice try too Myrn on deflecting the attention to me and that 62 marriage thing, but I think maybe we should talk about your 6 month stint with "Fast Bear" the Coalinga CHPer/Gang Biker that was so enraptured with you.
Explain how you balanced yourself on the back of that HOG all the way to Texas and back. Yes maam, a solid 3000 miles, and never ONCE even so much as, hung on to this loser's belt loops. Someone PALEEEEZE call Guinness.
Myrn, thanks for coming down. I had a great evening with you, the Sloey family, and Robin too. I hope to see you before another 17 years passes, although you looked just like you did in High School.
I love you girl, and be a Coug.........

I was just looking at the unofficial WEB site for Loara High School in Anaheim (my wife's alma mater). In the history of the school http://homepages.infoseek.com/~huntgroup/seaxe/histlhs.htm I found the following information:
SCHOOL COLORS AND MASCOT
Scarlet red, gold and white (after Hawthorne High School) were chosen as the school colors, and the Saxon became the mascot (the prototype was drawn by a Hollywood artist, Leon Harris, in 1944 for Thomason's YMCA groups, the Saxons.
I just thought that it was interesting that we, HHS, are mentioned in the history of Loara.

Intermediate....I remember the science teaher who use to give out bucks for good grades and stuff, and at the end of the year we had a party with all kinds of cooked goods that were auctioned off (I think, they were auctioned) at any rate we had a big party. Who was that teacher? Another teacher I remember, and not favorably either, was Mrs. Walker. She was an old bitty that didn't even like kids, and those are my mom's words! I also remember a teacher, Kathy S. can appreciate this one, that wore those old fashioned hose with the seam down the back, and I think she also taught science, because I remember Kathy camplaining something about a 'brain'. Kathy....fill in the details...ehy? ")
another teacher I remember was at York Elementry, she was a 6th grade teacher, Kathy, you know which one this is, the one that lived down by the beach and we went to her house at the end of the year for a beach party. What a blast! At HHS i remember an young male english teacher I had for a creative writing class. We would have a regular writing assignment and then an alternate one, like ...describe the inside of a ping pong ball and why it's so exciting. We also had a project, which Laura Stewart and I did together. We made a board game which we called "Stay Away From the Cops" (we may have use the word 'pigs', hey it was the times, what can I say). We used cake decorations, as the game pieces, of course we removed the pics. We had little race cars and little men and, a of course a jail. We even made a box for it. Anybody else remember these teachers or their names?
Christine, I beg to differ.....Mrs. Walker was a total sweetheart of a teacher at HIS.

Message: Ok...It's been awhile since I have posted here...so I figure it's about time. Plus I am now unemployed and have the time to post....(where is that HHS Employment Networking page?)
Kristi's post got me thinking about the 80's.... I have many great memories from my years in school... (from Anza through Dana to Hawthorne)
Many wonderful friends were made there and a lot of teachers who made a difference in my life. I will always remember my first love and my first major heartbreak..... funny how it still ouches.
But on this post I would like to mention of few things which Kristi made me remember....
Parachute pants... Were they meant to be so tight or were they just MINE?!?! I didn't particularly care for them, but there was a good looking sales guy at Merry Go Round named Bert (oy!! the things I remember) and I bought TWO pairs of those silly pants because Bert said they looked good... (rolling eyes)
Kristi mentioned breakdancing which I also remember... but does anyone else remember something called Freaking ? I think that is what it was called. It was some dance where legs were straddled and VERY PROVOCATIVE movements were going on... I remember going to my first HHS dance as a freshman and seeing this. It scared me to death!! I thought, "I'm NOT doing THAT!!!"
I remember being in Ms. Takumi's chemistry class and one of my best friends, Brian Evanski was the T.A. We were doing an experiment with something in which, if you rubbed in on yourself nothing happened until you went into the sun light.. (was it silver nitrate?? silver something...) well Brian had had the class before and he gave me a piece and said, "feel this.. it feels so strange" So I took it and rubbed it and looked at him like he was crazy...I rubbed it every which way trying to find the "strange feeling" he told me about but nothing.. After class I went outside, my hands turned BLACK... He could not stop laughing. I of course found no humor in his trick until the following year when *I* was a T.A. for Ms. Takumi and I told my friend Joe to "feel this, it feels so strange".
I remember that we had the best mascot my freshman year '82-'83. I had never seen someone with as much spirit and energy as Pegi Sue Stiritz.
Question regarding the pix sent in by George Hunter.... Is Greg Goode actually IN that picture?? He was my teacher for awhile at HHS and I don't recognize him in any of the faces....
So... any people from the '80's planning on attending the game or after-game shin dig? I am trying my hardest to make it but may be out of town. Does Stick N Stein have enough room for all of us??
Looking forward to seeing more posts from people from the 80's...
Delia darlin', It's about time girl. YES, We have the whole upstairs at the Stick and Stein and there's plenty of room to spill over downstairs too. Do not worry about room. The class of 88 will be there en masse as this will be their reunion that was missed last year. Please try to make this one. If you can't make the Friday night fun fest, please come on Saturday to the picnic and bring your family. This promises to be a fun filled weekend all around.
