Message: RED ALERT RED ALERT!!! TO JUDY DEGRAZIA'S BROTHERS. EMAIL ME IMMEDIATELY YOU ARE IN DANGER! IT is truly amazing how many people one can run into in this world who know about cougartown.com. I met Lori Padelford recently, hi Lori, and the Donohoe sisters, Rebecca, Sari and Abby you have to write in and say something stupid like the rest of us don't stand on the sidelines! Degrazia should give us all courage to respond here! Good to see you last Saturday. Along with a whole bunch of other folks from Hawthorne Wiseburn little league! Those were some really exciting times. And yesterday I handed my card to the court clerk in downtown Los Angeles and she screams oh its Prince Jim. How embarrassing. She wasn't a cougar but someone in her family was, and I heard but I was already getting ragged by three other attorneys and I was busy thinking of a come back, nah I won't say it! Anyway my point is, like I really have one, Degrazia you are sick, there are so many people who do not write in but just read in. We all would like to hear from you especially John. See he lives in this 4 X 8 room that is shaped like the inside of a computer and if we don't write the motors don't work and it gets really hot. So be brave, send in a response and be a Coug! Thank you for your support! Sloey
Judy writes me so much NOW I feel like we should be filing joint returns. No, Robin is the one Judy should be writing. He's stuck under a Honda Accord all day, and longs for the sweet words from the "HHS Dairy Queen". Judy, how about sending Robin a gallon of spumoni in one of those ice cream sacks, so it doesn't melt too fast.

Thanks Pauline and yes, we will be taking pre-orders. The artwork isn't quite ready though. I'm thinking we'll have them ready by the 1st of October, and no, I don't know what the price is yet either. I will let you know in time.

Every time I hear Hawaii 50 I start swinging my arms and marching around, don't think I'll ever forget that routine.

Message:SHALL I, WASTING IN DESPAIR
Shall I, wasting in despair,
Die because the test is near?
Or make pale my cheeks with care
'Cause my teacher's rosy are?
Be this day the fairest yet,
Clogged with smog from town and jet--
If the test be coming soon,
What care I for the full moon

Shall my empty head be sad
'Cause I see a test that's bad,
Or a problem with no answer
Joined with others, grown like cancer?
Be it shorter, simpler than
Knowledge of my back of hand,
If it be not so to me,
What care I if cinch it be?

Shall the hardness of the test
Make me answer just in jest?
Or, when answers down I write,
Make them always wrong, not right?
If the knowledge can be found
Which HAS been by college bound,
If it has not been by me,
What care I who else can see?

'Cause the test does seem too hard
Will I be taken to a ward?
I who bear a noble mind
(If not outward help I find)
soon will lose my sanity--
Then away I'll taken be.
But, unless that place I see,
What care I how bad I be?

Hard or easy, long or fair,
I will ne'er the more despair;
If I fail it, this believe
I will die, ere IT will grieve;
If i die ere it does end,
My answers I will not defend;
For if stiff and dead I be,
What care I what grade I see?

Message: I would like to thank a very, very old school chum, Tom Klingenhagen for his seat restoration, in dedication to Carol, & Linda and the cast of "BYE, BYE BIRDIE". Good Grief, what a blast Birdie was. We all really got the "smell of the grease paint" in our blood. We had a spectacular character who played Birdie?..Tom?..can't remember his last name and I thought I'd never forget it!!!!(that's a good one for any of us old-timers out there). Our sets came from a production in San Diego. They were "the latest", newer, rolling, folding scenes and sets (Wow). We pulled it off too. Inglewood High did "Birdie" a few months later and we ALL attended - Hawthorne's was the BEST. Hope this doesn't cause trouble with the football game!! Anyway, thanks Tom for your generosity. I got the fax of the Cougars and the 1964 Studio Night program (that was a big deal too that I'd forgotten). What has happened to Ardis Allen and Diane Giordani???
THANK YOU TOM KLINGENHAGEN

Crossing El Segundo during rush hour and having all the cars skid to a stop when I put a foot in the cross walk. Haven't seen that reaction in any other large city. I have been trying for the last 2 weeks to catch up from Feedback page one before I added my 2 cents worth. Only 50 (AAAH!) pages to go. Seems like for every 2 I read there is another new one added. Message: Hello Diana, Im still here! Just been reading what everyone has to say and remembering yesteryears (is there such a word?). No, I think I want yesterday years. I was remembering, we had a shoe shine man near Broadway, who was always laughing and was such a good natured person. John, I think you remember this man, What was his name? Eric had to write just a little story of someone interesting of years ago, I told him of this man, but Eric ended up writing about his Great-grandpa, who was one of the first who went to night school at HHS to learn about our government and become a citizen in 1954. Not only is Cougartown stirring up the memories, but there are teachers who are getting our children interested in what this town is all about, then and now. I sometimes wonder if I would have paid more attention in class, if they would of made it more interesting by asking us to find out what the government, where did most of the townspeople come from, how did they settle here and the list would go on and on. Im glad to see that some of the teachers are making them see the yesterdays and the todays. I bet there are a lot of good stories out there from others who are just as proud, like I am of what my Grandpa did, and he too was a HHS student, might of been night school, but it still would of made him a Cougar. John, you might not know it, but what you started here with this website, has gotten so many people talking and so many of us (Oldies) as well as the young ones are showing so much more pride in the fact that they were and are from HHS. I know you get it all the time now a days, but John Thank you for this wonderful MEMORY PARTY!!
Loretta, The shoe shine stand that your thinking of, was owned by a black man named Tucker. He had that stand in Hawthorne for many years. It was out front of a barber shop, by the train tracks, on the south end of the Mastins drug store building.
I certainly hope that this website can instill Cougar pride in today's students, as well as certain alumni who had taken their own school years for granted. HHS is an outstanding school, and has the outstanding alumni to prove it. It may need a little paint, or a few seats in Nyman Hall replaced, but inside beats the heart of the lion, that so proudly stands as it's mascot. HHS has the history, tradition, AND the talented alumni. I hope you all realize that you ARE NOW, or HAVE BEEN a part of said history and tradition. I know I was a part of it, and I couldn't have grown up in a better place, or at a better time.....Thanks Loretta

Message: Keith...regarding your question about the Indy 500 driver. I lived next door to Richard and Greg Done (twins) on 138th Place in Hollyglen. Their uncle, Bud Tinglestad, (who lived with them for awhile) raced in the Indy 500. Through them I was fortunate enough to meet several Indy drivers including...A. J. Foyt, Al Unser, Parnelli Jones, Paul Jones, Mario Andretti, Roger Ward. There was a constant stream of drivers and their cohorts for the brief time he lived there and the many times he would visit. I remember that Bud had a maroon corvette. We always knew exactly what time he arrived home from his late night escapades by the sound of "burning rubber" as he would turn the corner on two wheels and peel into their driveway. I guess it was in his blood...on and off the track.

Message: COUGARTOWN HOMECOMING UPDATE
Hi, everyone! Just a few reminders about our upcoming Homecoming Game - After Game Victory Party - Picnic In the Park - All Class Reunion.
I'm meeting with the powers-that-be at HHS on Friday morning to discuss details for our 175+ crowd that has sent in their RSVP to me. If you haven't done that, please take a moment and fill out the Homecoming Form. When all details for the Friday night game are final, I'll post the update to Feedback.
After the game, we will all meet at the "NEW" Stick & Stein, which will be become COUGAR PARADISE until closing time. Stick & Stein is located at 707 N. Sepulveda Blvd in El Segundo. We will have a DJ ("KILLER" STONEBRAKER) so bring those CD's and tapes and we'll play them for you.
If you are staying overnight at the Hacienda Hotel, you MUST make your reservations prior to October 01. After that date, anything not reserved in our Cougartown Party block will be released. If you aren't sure that you're coming, you can still make your reservations and then cancel them 24 hours prior to your date of arrival.
Our Saturday picnic will be held at El Segundo Parks & Rec. Directions to the park will be available on the web site (right, John?). Due to the overwhelming response for this event, this will be a "BRING YOUR OWN PICNIC LUNCH." We will provide the music, games, kids activities and lots of friendship! We have reserved 20 tables, several bbq's and a large fire pit, but you may want to bring folding chairs or blankets to throw on the grass. Also, ALL ROYAL CAKE BAKERS... and that doesn't mean you John. We will be having a COUGARTOWN HEAVENLY CHOCOLATE CAKE BAKEOFF. The prized recipe is on CT (what page, John?) so this should be an easy one. Don't forget, some had chocolate frosting and some had white frosting! We will have a wonderful panel of "HHS CHOCOLATE CAKE FOR BREAKFAST" judges for this event. Start baking Coug's!
Any other questions, e-mail me at FUNDS4KIDS@YAHOO.COM
See you all in October!

Thanks Susan, I know you're very busy and we do appreciate the update. I will get the cake recipe on the site so all you Bakers out there (and I don't mean me) can get to practicing. I've also seen the first draft of the T-shirt art, and it looks "Mahvelous".....Thanks Alan and Mitch for all the hard work.
Susan, Yes I will meet you there at 8:45 on Friday. I will also get the map to Rec park on the site. Thanks to all. This is going to be a fun fun weekend.

Hi Diana, I would NEVER shut this forum down. Half of our people would go BLOODY NUTS!!!
Re the Picnic: I'm waiting for Susan and a report. SUSAN, Please let us know the picnic status. Diana, I think we've changed it from BBQ Chicken to "Bring your own lunch". Lots of people wanted to bring their own, so it was going to become a problem of how much chicken to buy. If you want to bring your own chicken or burgers or whatever, and BBQ it, then that would be OK too. Also, there are many fast food places in the area. Susan will let us know in a day or so........ Message: Hey Hey Hey.... Joyce didn't take a shot. That was a salvo. And again you pass on more good news to Robin. That's the price of being a Prince, I would guess. Based on recent events, it would seem prudent to arrange for a substitution flogging. Maybe a cake for the King? Or Maybe Brownies, Ice Cream Cones or other goodies to calm the savage beast. When it's all said and done John, and the truth be known, none of us ever get a word in that counts. That is why the Lady Cougs use "BUT YOU PROMISED" as the sword to close any weak case they may have. I've gotten to the point with the above statement to simply admit to having lied about whatever. You might try that...Let me know if it works for you. Teacher name game... Ramona School. 1954 / 55 Mrs. Ruby, her husband played a preacher in a film back then. I think it was "Come Next Spring"
Frank, Joyce is tough, and has taken MUCH worse from yours truly. She knows I'm joking about the gargantuan size of her derriere. I never make fun of anyone's posterior on a World Wide forum such as this. The posterior jokes have been lain to rest with the Crystalized Cheeks of Patty V.
"Come next Spring" is one of my all time favorite movies. I will have to purchase that one, as I don't think it's rentable. If you all get a chance to EVER see it, please do so.

If you have comments or suggestions, please email me at jb1@cougartown.com
