Message: Paco, I ran around with a guy named Bruce Johnson, as you know. His bro Terry, a few years older than us(also with the Satins Angels) and friends, hung out at the Hambuger Handout at Centinela and Sepulveda. Every Tuesday night, rods would show up and there would be a challenge. They used to go out and run behind LAX which was not an international airport place at the time, on a road I believe was called Lincoln. It connected Imperial Hwy with Westchester and was west of the airport. Some really good drags held out there. And I've told this story before, but the bad dude, Bruce's bros buddy, had an 52,53 Olds with a 57 J2 engine and 6 2's on it and had never been beat. A deuce coupe showed up one night at the Handout, challenged him and ran him three times. Beat him all three. The last time, he just kept going towards Westchester. No one ever knew what he was running or anything. De ja Vue? Little Deuce Coupe, B.Boys? Or John Milner in American Graffiti. Take your choice. It really was cool. Jake N Jude. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU.

Message: Re Cougartown Picnic: For all who are in the Chili Contest, please bring your chili in a pot or pan that can be heated on a BBQ. We have two BBQ areas that will handle about 40 people each so that's where we'll do the Chili and Salsa Contest thing, along with the watermelon eating contest. Also, with 2 BBQ areas you can bring something to BBQ rather than just a picnic basket. As of now it looks like a short 100 will be there so hope to see you too. Thanks all and we'll see you on the 27th of September. There's a
map on the Picnic page.

Message: Cougar Sighting...I have been filling in for a couple of days in the physical therapy department for their receptionist, who happens to be first and foremost my oldest daughter, Kristin. A new patient came in with his wife and grandson. After a few minutes his wife stands up, looks at me and says " you went to HHS, didn't you?" She said she did also and was Darlene Harvey class of 1973. I remembered the name, but did not know her. She says she is not good with names but never forgets a face...hmmm. She decided she remembered me from my many years in Mrs. Hohenthaner's student store.

Message: Well, "Off like a prom dress," JudyWudy and Janny are doing a great job on the picnic. Talk about creativity, Judy is overflowing with it. Janny hang in there in that surplus Marine tent. I hear you are wearing camouflage and staying under the radar of the El Segundo park rangers. Judy promises to send you more rations as soon as she finishes freezing that t-shirt for the picnic. Frozen t-shirts? That sounds interesting. Stay tuned to find out more.

Message: Cougar sighting. Learned that my wonderful, pain free, one man show dentist is a HHS alumni. Dr. Jerry Okuda came from the same "root canal" as we did. Hope you make it to the picnic Dr.O.
RE: SEPT 27th PICNIC IN THE PARK EVENT: Last weekend, Janny and I dropped by the park to check it out. It's a great setting with lots of trees and open spaces for games. Don't forget to sign up if you plan to be there. Even if you don't sign up, you can just show up, but we'd like to have a feel for the numbers attending. Since it's first come first serve, make sure you bring your blankets and cooked food as we're not sure of how much access we have to the grills and tables. We'll have games, prizes, Paco's going to take lots of pics.. music, and lots of stories about how we got from high school to here. More info as it unfolds. And, yes, Janny is still in his tent holding the spot at the park. Only 10 more hot afternoons and cold nights in the park baby, hang in there. Judy D.B.

Message: I was at the Brian Wilson concert on Saturday night.....what an event! The Hollywood Bowl was packed. Brian's music reached everybody there...all generations. The momentum built up throughout the concert and by the time we were half-way into the concert, the crowd was on their feet, singing and dancing in the aisles. It made you proud for him, knowing how far he's come, how he's made it through and where he is now. His orchestrations and his top-quality musicians show off Brian's creative genius abilities and now he's better than ever. The last song from his new cd,
"Southern California" is very moving...the words go right to your heart. So glad I was able to go!
