Message: Just wanted to give a quick thank you to Kathy Tift and Pat Wingo for arranging the ladies reunion for the class of '62 last weekend. It was just wonderful and so good to see many close friends that I hadn't seen in way too long. I am so impressed with the accomplishments of these women over the past 40+ years as well as their many recent successes. HHS and its teachers did well by the gals of '62! I look forward to many of the future get-togethers we brain stormed on! Best, Janet
Thanks Janet....Kathy, if you have any pictures, please email a couple to me, willya'? Thanks

Message: A bit tardy with the birthday wish John. Lonnie Donegan puts my feelings into lyrical form that expresses how I feel: "A B C double X Y Z -- the cats in the cupboard and she cain't see me." As everything relates to sports on some level, I couldn't find any professional team that has retired the number 64. Jim Hess wore 64 for the '64 scarlet & gold. That same uniform may be purchased on eBay for 64 cents (plus shipping and handling). I'll ingest 64oz of an adult beverage to commemorate the occasion. Take the rest of the day off Cougars. John's Birthday is treated as a national holiday in my household.
Hey Jim, simple really. If you add up OJ's and Sandy Koufax's number....well then, there you go. Thanks for birthday wish in "Rock Island Line" form too. Lonnie Donegan was, to me, the opitomy of birthday wish givers and that sentiment, right there, says it all. I'm tearing up as we speak...

Message: Jessie Koehn's(74) comment on the vacant lot at Doty and 118th street. Well the Hawthorne community group that wanted to buy the land, lost its years long battle to convert the blighted vacant lot into a park this week when the City Council voted not to support the effort. On Tuesday night, the plan failed to get three votes needed for passage, leaving the door open for a business owner and longtime campaign contributor of Mayor Larry Guidi and his cronies to buy the lot. Well John it's more likely than not, the Mayor will get an email from me. The good-old boys always get their way. Happy birthday John and everyone have a safe Labor Day weekend.
Thanks Michael

Message: good morning fellow Cougars! I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend filled with family, food and fun! I was reading the LA Times this morn...and for any of you that may be interested there is an article in the California section of the paper regarding a vacant lot at Doty and 118th. I think this woman is doing and good thing and maybe, just maybe Cougartown can help her out.

Message: I see Hawthorne City Council 2008-09 fiscal year budget of slightly more than $143.1 million was approved on a 4-0 vote Tuesday night. It includes $52.5 million for the general city operating fund and has a $69,000 surplus. The city anticipates a $10.1 million reserve by the end of the fiscal year. My question is...can the City Council help Hawthorne High's Athletic Program?
Good question Michael, maybe you can email the good Mayor, Larry Guidi and see.

Thank you Patty, I'm sure I'd have survived these last 10 without you and your sisters, but lots more fun with you. You and the Valencia clan are a legacy in your own right in the city of good neighbors and I'm sure there are lots who will need and feed me way past 64. Thanks so much for being a part of all this fun. Say hi to the hunchback from all of us

Message: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN BOY AND MANY MORE! The first time I celebrated your birthday with you was in 1999 at La Fiesta In Hawthorne. Joyce had a surprise party for you and that was also the first time I met the beautiful Bierman girls. What a ride we have had since that time, most of it really great. I hope we will have many more years of good times. Mississippi River, Marsha

Message: Happy Birthday wishes to one of the best people I have ever known. John, you have changed lives. What started out as your personal yearning to recapture and enjoy the memories of youth has become a journey and adventure for thousands. Not a lot of people can claim that....but you can. And I am so happy to be on that journey with you as are all of the CT faithful. I wish you the happiest day, #64. I'll bet if we asked Ella V what she could tell us about this day 64 years ago, she'd remark that "It was a very good day." And it was and continues to be. Love you much - see you soon. XOXO
Well thank you Sue and....please don't ask Mom

Message: Hey does this count as a Cougar siting if I just heard about it? Jim Villanueva ('76) was asked by Konnie Krislock to speak at her Journalism Workshop at Long Beach State on Aug 13. She also asked if he could bring his daughter to class because she is an Associate Publicist in the music biz. He was a very proud father as he watched his daughter wow the class! He has a new blog up that talks about how it went and also a lot of other stuff related his 21 years in the radio and music industry. It's really interesting if you're a big music fan (or just want to see a current pic of Konnie!). Jim's also a good trivia source for anyone needing to know ANYthing about music!
Hi Michelle, No, it doesn't count but thanks very much for the information on Jim, Konnie, and the Blog. Saw Konnie last weekend at Sharon B's place. She looks great and still has that HHS Spirit.

Message: John, Happy birthday! How does it feel to be over 41? I haven?t seen your name on either the Republican or Democrat ticket. An oversight I guess. You really ought to consider running for a seat on the city council. Maybe that way taxpayers could get some funds for important pursuits like sports, art, modern dance, and music in schools. Fat chance! Weren?t we lucky that some liberals thought those things were important when we were in school??? Take care Cougars and maybe this will stir things up on the feedback. Again, wishing you a hundred more years Johnny boy. Jim Peppers
Hey Jim, Thanks very much for the wishes and I think I'll keep my big fat nose out of the political scene. I like this too much.
