Message: Sheree, that was the strangest Cougar sighting ever! The guitar player from W1P and I walked into the Big Bear cookie shop to borrow a phone book to order a pizza! The guitarist was wearing a Red Sox hat and I was giving him static about being a rude Easterner (jokingly). Sheree piped up with "yeah, that's why I moved up here, to get away from those types. She asked the guitarist where he was from and he said upstate NY (went to school in Boston) and she said she was from Redondo. I said I was from Hawthorne, she said what year and then told me her name -- which is unforgettable even if I can't spell it! The show in Arrowhead was totally cool -- 2500 folks losing their mind to Floyd -- yes the mountains rocked!

Message: First - Happy BD early to John. Second, Keith your sponsorship package was very well written. You might try (as suggested) the Chamber of Commerce - but maybe try searching their on line site. Many times CoC's will list the chamber member, always better to send "beg" letters to an individual vs "to whom..." Just a suggestion. Third, the Reno Gazette Journal, www.rgj.com, has a link to Brian Wilson's newest album "Lucky Old Sun" and lastly I read that the Beach Boys will be performing in Seattle in Sept. Message: Paco, I think you are talking about the bird calls that they used to sell at Fun Haven and also at the Fantasyland MagicShop at Disneyland. They came in little paper envelopes and were called Swiss Warblers. I used to love those things because you could slip them in your mouth and no one would know that it was you making all the noise. I also remember their big flaw was the cellophane tearing loose if you didn?t get them wet enough before you started to blow. Take a look HERE and see if this is the same as you remember.

Message: To let you know I am almost finished with the polo shirts to help raise money for the athletic dept. They are gray with a red logo, "Cougar Athletics" on the left breast pocket. I should have them this coming Tuesday. I'd like to get them out in time for the first home football game. Is there going to be one? I feel $20.00 will be a fair price. All proceeds going to the athletic fund. This way people get something for their help. The sizes range from Adult small to extra large. Right now I have 100 shirts, if they sell well I'll continue to get 100 more each time. John, I won't be able to make the picnic as planned. Family wedding up in Oregon that weekend. Message: Okay folks the Sponsorship Package has been completed for about a week now. I am not sure if John put a button up to download or not. I need some help. I need some company names I can contact about sponsorship. Don't worry about a gym or health club. I have one coming in and more than likely in as a major sponsor. But I need some input from everyone since I do not live there and do not know the business's there anymore. So email me or put some ideas down. Instead of wasting time getting $100 donations from a bunch of people it is a whole lot easier to get a few corporate sponsors contributing bigger dollars. And it is alot less work. Message: Our fundraising is finally gaining some traction. We have about 75 donors who have contributed $11,500 so far, approaching the milestone of 20% of our target. As John has said before, we have about 250 regulars on CT, so there is lots of room for new contributors. Also, lean on your HHS friends who may not be readers of CT. And don't give any money this year to public television or Presidential candidates--they already have enough money and are cause is a personal threat to all who have passed through the hallowed halls of HHS. Come on Cougars, dig deeper!

Message: Had an interesting Cougar sighting yesterday morning...I am a member of South Torrance Lions and we meet for breakfast on wednesdays. On arriving yesterday I was told we had a new member being inducted. I introduced myself to him and he said he grew up in Hawthorne. Ron Varnell (63) said he grew up around 135th and Shoup. There seem to be Cougars everywhere you turn in the South Bay. By coincidence it was my turn to provide the speaker for the meeting and I had arranged for Sid Semon to be the speaker. Sid was an NFL official for over 20 years and was a coach at HHS starting in 1959. Sid was also a baseball coach at my alma mater, USC in 1957 and coached the national champion 1958 team. I remember Sid as the golf coach at HHS during my years there. Is it too early to start talking about the SC/UCLA football game John?
