Message: I'd like to let everyone one know the polo's will be up at HHS on Monday. I have been out of town on business and returned earlier this morning. For those of you who sent me checks, your shirts will be mailed out tomorrow, Saturday. Also, here's an idea to give, The United Way has a giving program that people can donate to a specific organization, school, et al. He's a chance to give back a little a month without the lump sum all at once. Cougar's won't quit and Cougar's won't die. Good weekend to all. Walter, going to miss you man. Good Luck on the East Bank

Message: John and others, thanks again for all the help and I'll be in touch soon. And John, belated B-day wishes....Lastly, Mr. Key, was wondering if you still had the retirement gift that woodshop made you? That "grandfather" clock out of all wood? If so, maybe have a pic posted here or sent to me. I put a lot of time in on that piece and would love to see it again. Thanks

Message: WOW! John, I don't CARE if Jorge Llave's lunch today was planned or not, THAT is one helluva COUGAR SIGHTING!!! He gets credit!! The journalist in me sure wishes I'd been there to conduct the interviews and write the story. Konnie Krislock, how did you miss this?! And Mr. Key, since I had to miss this, I will count on your wonderfully sharp memory to repeat some of the really fun reminisces that surfaced today. I'll bet there was laughter from beginning to end....BTW, I'll take this opportunity to remind everyone that the picnic is later this month. I expect to see you all! Sign up now!

Message: Hey John and All...When I knew Sonia, we both worked at Building #2 (halfway between Yukon and Crenshaw) That was the Machine shop, Sheet Metal, Eng'g Model Shop and P.C. Board shop. I don't remember seeing Jim Peppers there but that's understandable since he was a guy. (I remember pretty girls much easier than guys) Sorry Jim!...BUT I did happen to get a copy (on CD) this past week, of one of your dad's favorite groups..."Ken Loran and the Lorals"...Only 7 songs, but Wow! I had forgotten how great they were!...David
Can you get me in contact with David to find out where he purchased this CD? I have a copy of most of my fathers material but I've heard that someone is selling copies. And for "Paco"...yes I remember the moon shaped "whistles". They were actually designed for bird calling if memory serves me correctly. Thanks again, Brett

Message: Cougar sighting almost, as I was getting a ride home from the GMC dealer today, I began a discussion with the driver. We mentioned LA then he said he grew up in East LA then moved to the OC, I then said I went to HHS, he said he had a real good buddy that went to HHS then recanted and said Leuzinger, '64 or 65. I said WHO? He said Joe Pasternak. JOE, Wally and little Jim. He said you know them, I said "Never heard of them." We had a great talk. Hey Joe if you're out there call me next time you are up here. WTC reunion. You too Wally. Love to hear from both of you, and the little Pasternak too. Oh his name is Lyle Maxy. Put the Cougar up John don't be so stuffy with small world stuff that joins us all.

Message: If I remember correctly (and this is always an issue), The Beach Boys played at the senior breakfast for the class of 1963. I was there as a server or helper or something, being an underclassman at the time (class of '65). The question I can't answer is whether it was in the Fall or Spring (seemed cold outside, but that doesn't help). The breakfast was held in the cafeteria. On p. 57 of the 1963 El Molino, there is a picture of Brian, Carl and David Marks during this performance. Had to be Fall '62 or Spring '63. As I remember it, they were on a little makeshift stage jammed up against the south wall. Long time ago, so I could have it wrong, but somebody from '63 should be able to confirm.

Message: My freshman year the Beach Boys played in the cafeteria. I was sitting with some of my new friends on the first day of school at the freshman breakfast in September of 1961 suddenly someone jumped on top of a table and started playing a guitar the the all of the Beach Boys started playing and singing for us new freshman. Really, really cool. I was so excited. I was new to Hawthorne and had no idea they attended HHS. I had lived all of my life until my parents moved me to Hawthorne that previous summer. I thank them to this day for that wonderful move. I am still good friends with all of the ladies I met the first morning at HHS. Thank you Beach Boys for

Message: Regarding the question about whether anyone remembers if the Beachboys performed in the cafeteria, early in their career...I don't remember them performing in the cafeteria but it was soon after one of their first recordings was released, that Brian Wilson and the others were there, visiting us. I remember talking with Brian about their new record and I think that was following their performance. Anybody else remember (hopefully, more clearly than I do)?

Message: Hello Cougar Alumni -- Does anyone recall the Beach Boys playing at a Senior Breakfast in the cafeteria of Hawthorne High School? I believe it may have been in the Fall of 1961. It was very early in their career before they signed with Capitol Records and became widely known. Also, does anyone recall if, in the early Sixties, Senior Breakfast was indeed held in the Fall semester as opposed to the Spring (ie; closer to Graduation)? Please contact me at bfinkmurphy@yahoo.com. with any recollections you might have. As always, thank you for your assistance. Jim
