Message: Hey Jim Peppers, I think that song should have been "Poetry in Motion ", sort of like the following and your verse wasn't correct and mine isn't either.. :-)). It was kind of like the Elvis song " Return To Sender", I always thought it said "Return to Cinda, address unknown". DUH? I thought he was talking to a chick. Didn't think about a letter!!! Jude says a lyric she used to blow was by the Mamas and Papas, "All the leaves are brown ", it came out "Mona lisa Brown and the Sky Was Grey". She couldn't figure out why they would say something like that. Go figure! Fun stuff. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU! Jake N Jude.

Message: Hi to everyone out there. I thought I would share this picture of my son Neil (who is about 35 or 36 here). I especially wanted Dale Hahlbeck Jr to see that there are more Hahlbeck lips out there. Neil has some Hahlbeck blood in him via his grandma Juanita (Nita) Hahlbeck. My Uncle Buster Hahlbeck had those Hahlbeck kissers too.

Message: Oh Connie, I do remember that Model UN -- vividly. We were "Uganda" at the height of Idi Amin and let's just say that things got very controversial when some at the Model UN mistook our role playing (among other things, Amin had expressed admiration for Hitler) as expression of our personal viewpoints. This led to delegation walking out followed by a speech by me to the "General Assembly." I did not address the business of the Model UN but the walkout. A political lesson indeed. Message: Funny Stuff on the Lyrics!!!! I am bummed, I may not be able to make it on time for the Cruise Night this Saturday as I have to work til whenever...Glad to see that The Picnic is on for September...The dealership will have to live without me for that one, for sure!!! Lots going on, I met this fantastic lady that I am crazy in love with. Turns out she is from our old stomping grounds and went to Inglewood High c/o 69. Her family owned Casey Cars, which back then was next to the Dewey Weber Shop in Hermosa Beach, which her brother stills owns today in the same location. Her first Husband was someone I knew from my Class of 66 Craig Hutchins. Sad to say he passed on a couple of years ago. I did talk to his brother Chuck Hutchins, Class Of 67 or 68?, a couple of days ago and talked for a bit about the good ole days. He used to work at the Pizza Show mentioned on here recently. Today he lives in Oregon, so some of you Oregonians may know him.

Message: Dallas, Oregon, 2008, what else would one think about than those thrilling days of yesteryear, 58-60, where there was a trampoline park on every bare corner about the size of a gas station. There were pits dug under each of the 10-12 trampolines and I'm thinking it was about a dollar for a half hour of trampoline time, trying to keep your action on the mat, as between each trampoline were two inch rocks. Tell me I'm not dreaming.

Message: Okay, I was singing Barbara Streisand's Memories in the car today when, after all these years my sweet husband says I have it wrong. It's not common memories, it's colored memories. Actually, I think it's the artists' fault for not pronouncing the words clearly. Yup, that's what I think.

Message: It?s funny ?Turner Classic movie channel decided to run Mister Holland?s Opus, tonight , the night of the Oscars. I watch it again with greater emotion & understanding of the solid perfection in the wonderful leading performance by Dreyfuss. I hope everyone will take the time to watch it again to experience once again how each of our lives were positively nudged along by ?teachers??Each one of us has a Mr. Holland in our past, each day we live we take part in a tribute performance which offers homage to that person who helped encourage our early lives.

Message: I can honestly say it was my experiences at Hawthorne High that gave me the opportunity to have the rewarding career as both a special education teacher and English teacher. Through the work experience program at HHS, I was sent to work at Sepulveda School which had become a temporary LA County Special Ed. School; there I found my calling to be a special education teacher. However it was Ms. Violet Clark and Mr. Orrell, who grounded my love of literature. I recall Mr. Orrell introducing me to John Steinbeck's works; I think that semester I read every word that Steinbeck had ever written. Now I have the both of best worlds; as a high school resource teacher I get to service students with learning disabilities, but I also get to teach a 12th grade English class. I only hope that I can have the positive impact on my students as Ms. Violet Clark and Mr. Orrell had on me...they truly are my heroes.

Message: Well here it is that time of year again: the 49th anniversary of the darkest day in the history of the El Cheapo (aka Plaza Theater). On this date in 1959 some malefactor, allegedly a member of HHS's Class of '62, threw a knife through the screen. According to an article in the Hawthorne Press: "When asked why he threw the knife the youth replied 'Just to see if I could get away with it.'" Lest we forget!
