Message: I knew Jerry couldn't stay away from the computer for long! Workin' thru the pain huh Jerry? Anyway, I was happy that I could be of some assistance to Jerry in his time of need. I would like to believe that any one of us would do the same for each other if we only knew the need was there. But a lot of the time and for whatever the reason...we simply do not or will not ask for a little help. JB, on the Cougartown Stats page I see where you show that 1,704 Cougars live just in the State of California alone. Now, I sure don't want to create any more work for you but if somehow we had a roster to see which of us actually lived in the same city or towns as each other, maybe the next time one of us was in need of a small favor...well you see what I'm trying to say. Remember the movie "Pay It Forward"? There were three rules: #1, it has to be something that really helps people. #2, it has to be something that they can't do by themselves. and #3, you do it for them, and in return, they do it for three other people.
Hey Anita, good idea, I'll work on that one. Thanks again for helping out ol' Jer'. You and he are #1ers, for sure.

Message: Susan King's feedback reminded me why I took a psychology class when I went back to college after many years out of school. I knew I needed to get a career or I'd be flipping burgers with teenagers and that really had me worried. I'd been a housewife for a long time and that prepared me for exactly nothing that I could think of for a career. I started taking classes to become a teacher. Not because I was 'called' to be a teacher, but because I couldn't think of anything that suited me. Then I remembered one class at Hawthorne that I loved and one teacher who made an impression on me. Mrs. Ton and the class was psychology. So I tried some psychology classes and quickly changed my major. Well, today I am not flipping burgers and I am very grateful to Ms. Ton for that one little class that pointed me toward my career. I don't think I would have made a good teacher. But I do make a pretty good Marriage and Family Therapist. Thanks Ms. Ton!
Thanks Sharon, very nice story. Mrs Ton would have to be on every Cougar's Top Ten List.

Message: To all my Cougartown friends, teachers, and classmates. I just wanted to let you know I am home and healing. I?m sure that is due to no small part from the warm thoughts, prayers, and good vibes I felt coming at me from every direction. Five bypasses and a valve job can be a little tiring so it may be a while before I am anywhere back to normal but I can do the fifty yard sprint in 03:57.27 right now. Well, with a little tail wind I can. I think that?s about the same time I had at Dana. The doctors did say I should be good until my next 3000 mile oil change and lube job. So I will be out here on the sidelines monitoring CT and all its activities for a little while but I?ll be back. And In the immortal words of the Bartle?s and James' guys: I thank you for your support.
Five bypasses and a Valve job huh. Lou's Garage used to do those for about $49.95. Glad you're back Jer, now give me 20 and hit the shower.

Well a BIG thank you to you, Bud, and Wade for running our Cougartown Golf Tournament. Please let me know who's signed up so I can add them to the list, above.

Go Cougs! Go Beavs! A side note: my son and I moved to Corvallis last summer from Oroville CA. Loving life here... Oroville was nice but Sac. Valley summers were too blasting hot for me. Aloha
Hey Marla, Thanks for the update on our brother Coug and good luck in OR. Don't forget to change your address info on the Ctown info system.

Message: On the contrary John, while you may THINK that your teachers did not succeed in guiding you to your "calling", in fact, I think you have far exceeded the expectations of those who sought to lead you to those things. YOU have created a blend of magic, entertainment, and history all rolled into this child of yours called Cougartown. Everyone who has ever had the good fortune to know or be connected to you admires and is proud of what you have achieved. And I see some of that in every Cougar who has ever posted in here.....
Well now, you have brought up some pretty good points. Maybe I did do Miss Clark proud, but I've never written for the LA Times like you, joseph Mailander, or any other of Konnie Krislock's crowd, so I say maybe I was brought up in a generations of Hot Rods and neer do wells, rather than the 1970s group you were brought up in. (Konnie, can I end that sentence with an "in"?) Anyway, I love all of you very much and am so proud of our Cougardom. Many of us have gone on to be what we were inspired to be. You Sue, have become a wonderful writer along with joseph, Cheri Carter Kirk, and many others. HHS has taught us all. We just didn't realize it until we were a little older and wiser. God Bless all our Teachers as we had no idea, then, what we were going to grow into, and what they were going to make us "into".

Thanks Deb, for the update and Anita, you are a Cougar ANGEL!! Jerry said you brought him a care package that only Arnold S. could lift. I know you live closest to Jerry, but you have really made his, and our, day. Thanks very much for helping out our fellow 66 Cougar.

Message: Sad news about Mr. Orrell. My sophmore year, I had been scheduled for second year of French. I walked into the class and realized that it just wasn't for me. My counselor managed to get me into his Creative Writing class, and, like so many other students, his class changed me forever. He encouraged me to continue my writing in Journalism with Miss McGinty. To this day, I thank them both for my love for the written word. Mr. Orrell was a quick wit and it was a pleasure to be in his class. And, of course, Clara McGinty; I loved her. Betty
Thanks Betty, Never did do a creative writing class although Miss Clark (Freshman English) desperately tried to get me involved. She was a favorite of mine too. There were lots of HHS teachers trying to help us focus on things they thought we'd be real good at, but most of us did our own thing; in most cases, too bad.....

Jimmy Sloey- Good luck locating Kathy Thomas. I attempted to do so prior to writing the part about Tim in the book and had no luck. But whenever I spoke with her over the years she readily expressed her delight upon hearing mention of Tim's legacy. I am sure that anything done in his memory will be greatly appreciated by she and her family. Later,Kimo in Kihei

Message: Was anyone aware that Art Orrell passed away in October? I don't remember reading anything about it. Apparently he fell, injured some vertebrae and never recovered. I was one of the original 75 who started with him as a ninth grader enrolled in a special four year English grammar program. When I was a junior he talked my parents into allowing me to enroll into an art class and it absolutely turned my life around. When I left his classroom the last day as a senior I told him that it was very hard to leave and that I needed a way to repay him. He said for me to become a teacher and do for someone else what he had done for me. I did become a teacher and I hope that I repaid my debt. God bless him, he was the best.
Very shocking news. I had Mr. Orrell for Junior English and really liked him; pretty serious if you didn't get his humor and very wise. We spoke at a Rich Sloan reunion about 5 years ago. Mr Orrell, you will be missed. Thanks Ricki....
