Message: Something cool that Xerox is doing: If you go to
this web site, you can pick out a thank you card, and Xerox will print it, and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! Please send a card!! It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Message: I got a problem. Ok too many to list. Tim Thomas, class of 1965, was a great football player. He was an all CIF defensive back his senior year and could have been all CIF running back too. Those were the days when there were not 35 divisions. Tim was a great guy too modest about his accomplishments to a fault. February 13, 1968 Tim was killed in Vietnam after having finished #1 in his infantry training. Timmy never did anything half-way. A few months later the most successful coach in Hawthorne High School's history, Coach Chauncey (I mean whose field is it? HAL CAP) stood before a packed house at the Hawthorne Memorial Center to honor Tim by retiring his jersey #23. We cried, we laughed, we told Tim stories and we mourned. It took some of us a long long time to get over Tim's passing. Today I was looking at the Sport's page and the football roster and what do I see but that someone is wearing #23. Who do we contact to rectify this wrong?! #23 has been retired let's not for our heroes especially one who gave so much!

Message: Merry Christmas to all our fellow Cougars. And congratulations to Susan King's Cousin, Denver (Bierman) and the Mile High Orchestra. Although they didn't win the top prize of "Next Great American Band", 3rd place ain't too shabby. I look for them to be on tour and on the charts real soon. Tell them "Great Job" for me, Sue!

Message: Hello Cougars -- I am writing a book about the very early days of The Beach Boys and would like to talk with Hawthorne High School graduates who remember Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, and Al Jardine (HHS '60). I have already spoken with Richard Allen, Roberta Burkett, and Fred Morgan about their personal recollections, and they have been extremely insightful and helpful. I can be reached at bfinkmurphy@yahoo.com. Thank you for your help and, I have to tell you, this website makes me wish I went to HHS! Thanks, Jim Murphy

Message: I guess it's the NEXT politicaly correct year of the happy holidays, or holiday " tree ". But I remember that for my 60 plus years that it's been Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It's also called a CHRISTMAS TREE. A celebration of life if you may. If you don't like it, shut up, don't pay attention, and go do something else, like hug a tree. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR from Jake N Jude! MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU!

Message: Hi Cougars, I want to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. John, I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Mike Hunter. My thoughts and prayers to Fred, Bob, Gary, and the rest of the Family. All the Hunters, and other Ramona School grads played many pick-up football games on the playground. When I was in the 10th grade and starting on the Varsity defense, Mike as a senior would always give me many words of encouragement getting us fired-up and ready for the next play. I'll miss you Mike, Rest in peace. Thank God I'm a Coug! Royal Lord Jr.

Message: Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all Cougartowners, It has been a fast year. Where does the time go? It is always sad when we lose a Cougar. Mike Hunter was one of the best. He was one of the big varsity football starters I looked up to when I was a little freshman. During one of our practice drills in a two week double day practice, Mike grabbed my single bar face mask and broke my nose. I saw Mike in a store about about 15 years ago, I told him he broke my nose back in my first week of football practice, we had a good laugh and talked about the good times we had at HHS. He was a great football player, wrestler and a gentleman as an adult. To Gary, Bob and the Hunter family, my prayers go out to you.

Message: A little Mike Hunter story: My freshman year I was on the wrestling squad and we were going to Morningside for a meet. I had on my fathers army jacket which he loved..Don't lose it!! Well on the bus Mike takes a combination lock that he didn't know the combination to and stuck it through a button hole and locked it! Try to explain to your dad why you couldn't kick his butt!! Mike was a great athlete and joker.

Message: I just wanted to wish everyone all of the very best of wishes for the Christmas Holidays and throughout this New Year. I'm very fortunate to have all of my family with me this Christmas but as we all know too well there are thousands of our men and women in Iraq who won't have the opportunity to be safe with their families so our prayers to them and to not only their safe return but hopefully in the very very near future in this New Year. John thank you for giving all of us this avenue to reach out to old friends and go back to the good ole times. Happy Holidays and take care!!!!!!!!!!

Message: Just got word from Rich Sloan that Mike Hunter(HHS59) passed away. Mike was Class President in 1959, CIF Wrestling Champ, and played Varsity Football his Soph Junior and Senior years. I remember Mike as a counselor at Hawthorne Youth Camp in about 1957 trying to teach me to run high hurdles. Mike Hunter was just one of Hawthorne's finest, and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
We love you Mike. Rest in Peace
