Message: Hey Rick, I think we shared a drafting class or two. You're right, it was '74 and NES stood for National Event Security. Although Dave Hoffman walked away with no tickets that day, I know for a fact he scored outrageous seats for Elton.

Message: Dear John, Bad news! My husband of almost 42 years, Pat Desmore passed away early Saturday morning. From what I know so far it was a massive heart attack. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. That is Pat's favorite Holiday. I had not seen him that happy in a while. Thank you for Cougartown because he really enjoyed it. Family is arriving and plans are being made, not confirmed as yet. He was adored by my family and he definitely left a mark and a story with each member of the family, including his own. It's kind of sad that it takes this kind of an event to bring families back together but who knows maybe that was Pat's plan. He will be so missed. Sincerely, Maureen Desmore mdesmore@yahoo.com
What a shock, Maureen. I didn't hang out with Pat in high school but did know him, and can still see his smiling face, hanging out at Frosties on 133rd. Pat was a fun guy, as you know, and will be truly missed by me and dozens of his friends. My sincere condolences to you and your family, and to all of Pat's friends.

Message: Hey Alan, I remember that event at the Forum parking lot for the Elton John tickets. I went the night before the tickets went on sale and I was one of the ones that benefitted when all hell broke loose. But I think it was 74 and not 73. Didn`t NEC stand for National Event Service?

Message: First I need to thank Paco for sending me the link to the story on my cousin. Thanks John for asking where I have been. I have been lurking in the background reading feedback when I get the chance. Married life is very good, we have been working on our house, we moved in late April to Nevada and have had something going on almost non stop since. We are pretty much done with all of the things we needed to take care of with the house and land (good thing too, winter has come to the North Country, it has been about 10 degrees every night for the past week and in the low 40's in the daytime, and this isn't even considered cold yet, more to come), major change for a California girl from the city of Hawthorne. I hope all is well with everyone, Cindy

Message: Regarding the rumor Polly heard about the state taking over HHS...this is happening all over the nation thanks to the No Child Left Behind policy. When a school does not meet it's academic goals for 2-3 years in a row then they go into what is called "Program Improvement". This means that the government comes in and dictates what is taught...if it is not tested on the state test then basically, it's not taught. That limits you to math, language arts, some science and social studies. Students that are not testing at proficient are then placed in double periods of math or language arts. The crime in all of this is that all those classes that help make us the citizens of today are basically done away with. The federal law states that ALL students must be proficient...at the 80% range. That means special ed, English language learners, students with learning disabilities....everyone. It's effecting all schools throughout California and it's terrible. There have been positive changes due to No Child Left Behind...but this is one of the big negatives and it is causing teachers to run, screaming, from the profession. Can't address the mascot and colors question...I'll leave that to the PC crowd and law enforcement.

Message: WOW! What a site! Just spent the last 3 hours looking over all these wonderful memories??.absolutely incredible! You?re kinda like the Ken Burns of Hawthorne. AND A GREAT TOPIC! Being fortunate to have worked for several concert venues and promoters, I?ve seen about a million concerts and loved every one of them! (haven?t been able to score tickets for ?Which One?s Pink? yet) First concert was Moody Blues (?72}at the Forum; won 3rd row tix on KHJ. (remember AM Radio) Last concert was The Police, Las Vegas (?07). Best Concerts, hands down, were U2 , Denver (?05) and Bruce Springsteen at The Roxy (?78)and you can never go wrong with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic. Most Memorable Concert Ticket Line-Up goes to Elton John (?73) when Dave Hoffman (after spending 3 nights sleeping in the Forum parking lot and was like 3rd in line to buy tickets) was ?gracefully? thrown over a wall by NES (remember crowd ?control?) I still have most of my ticket stubs including one signed by Robert Plant when Led Zeppelin went to see Elvis (yes Elvis). Had the pleasure of working with some Hawthornians; Clarissa Lawhon, Jim Simmons, Jim Pupa, Gloria Benaquista, Sharon Owens and Lori Keahey. (hope all are well) Again FANTASTIC JOB on this site. You should be given an award for what you?ve done! Seriously!
Thank you Alan, but lots of this stuff has been donated by our own Cougar brethren. Please add yourself to our Alumni List through the Cougartown Info System.

Message: As a young girl, the man in the moon was more often visible to me than it is now. What happened to it? Is it just we have greater imaginations when we are younger or was there actually more of a face on the moon because of earth-moon relationships, rotations, or distances?

Message: Dear John, Congratulations on the 1000th page. I remember when this thing started and thought it was a great idea. I ran into some Cougars past and present tonight at the grocery store tonight. And, I heard a very upsetting rumor, and I am hoping against all hopes this can't be true. Two of the folks a Senior, and a freshman at HHS told me that the plan is that the state is taking over HHS, due to low performance scores in state testing. Moreover with the take over the school mascot will be tossed out, and scarlet and gold will be no more. Apparently someone from the politically correct camp has deemed scarlet and gold gang colors and the cougar no longer politically correct. All I can say is how many traditions are they going to take away from the kids at HHS? I am very proud of my Cougar past, as it was a spring board for my present. So someone please dispell this very disturbing rumor. By the way the Seniors Mother (sisters are all HHS Alumni, with the youngest in my class) we all grew up in Del Aire together. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone reading this, and please everyone have a safe and blessed Holiday Season.
Thanks Polly, Let's hope it's only a rumor.
