Message: Wow! Bill Sutton, I do remember him. I don't have any personal stories just that he was a nice guy and well liked. Thanks Bill for all the hard work you put into Hawthorne to help make it a great school. I guess he was there from the beginning. The only other member of the custodial staff I remember was Mrs Rhodes, the only female member. She was very quiet and sweet. She was always cleaning the restrooms. We had very clean restrooms. I know that is not a great job but I always had a lot of respect for her.

Message: Yes Jill, and knowing that I have the music done is . . . uh . . . well . . . incentive to come to the reunion? My sister (still lives in Del Aire) was cleaning out her garage last weekend and found the '77 Ten Year reunion book distributed to us in 1987. I am bringing a copy of that (though I have no doubt that Pam McClinden will bring a copy as well!). Hey, and everyone MUST come to see the 3-4 minute "Super 8" film of the last '76-'77 varsity basketball game at El Segundo (filmed by my Dad who was visiting from his home in Arizona -- the only High School sports event of mine that he ever saw!). And, the film features me running like a duck and committing multiple turnovers!

Message:
Way back when the Samohi/Cougar game was played I was 9yrs old but I spent most Friday nights in the fall at Cougar games. At that time my dad, Bill Sutton, was the "audio visual" specialist on the maintenance staff at HHS and he had to go to all the games to set up the speaker system for the pep squad. He also worked with the stage crew on most of the play productions. So I got to go to the games and see the plays long before I was a student. The thing I remember most about the SM game was after the game the kids from Santa Monica were CRYING as they walked to their cars. I couldn't imagine that the "big kids" would cry over a game. But I went home with laryngitis that night. And Dan Dye is right -- years later I met Dean Stafford through the Haw. Youth Center and later worked with Bobby Hunter at Parks and Rec. and it was like meeting a real life hero. I tried to copy the news article to send to my dad but I'm technically challenged and couldn't get it to copy. He really enjoys hearing things about the early days of HHS.

Message: Hey class of 77, are you ready to party this Saturday? I am still accepting reservations for the reunion, and I will even take money at the door. If price is the issue, please contact me, I have already worked with a few people on this issue, and I will be more than happy to work with you. The committee has been working in making sure that everyone has a good time. Dan Johnson has the music done, Dennis Kilroy has done an amazing job with our reunion website. Carolyn Daves and Pam McLinden are providing memories. Saturday will be fun. So get off the fence, and come join us. This will be the last time we have a 30 year reunion!

Message: Hello Cougar Town. It was great reading about the Samo High football game. I was a young pup then and didn't get much playing time, however I was proud to be on the same team as the great ones. I remember going to a C/T party at John Baker's house a few years ago and Russ Jacobsen was there. When I got home I told my wife Ann , it seamed strange to be able to talk to Russ like a friend. I remembered him as one of the great football players from the 1959 football team. I still look up to all those guys. Will the young lady from the class of 62 turns 62 reunion that wanted a desk, contact me. I have located a desk for you. Thanks again J B for C/T and all you do for us HHS Grads. You The Man, Dan Dye

The best one was like Royal Lord and I felt was quoted in a Daily Breeze article, "that some of these Samo guys hadn't been off their feet all year". But they were physically whupped that night. Thats cool. Thanks for all the guys. Jake N jude

Message: Hello everyone, It has been quite a long time since I posted anything here. For quite some time I have been working on the whereabouts of John Lasley, Class of 1962. Recently, and with the help of Dennis Lessor, who was able to provide final proof (as I was pretty sure) John Lasley's birth name was Leonard John Van Pelt. Sadly, I report that John died on January 28, 2006. I know none of the details, but if I learn anything else, I will pass it along. This makes me so sad, as John was such a part of my growing up years...... I will always remember the fun times. If anyone still has their 30 year reunion booklet, you can reread what he wrote for it.

Message: Just a "heads up" to let you know that Bill Engle (HHS'59) is directing a play at the La Habra community theater. It's called "Honk". A sorta' musical take off on "The Ugly Duckling". I spoke to Bill a couple of weeks ago and he told me that the response from the community has been really phenomenal. He said working with all the kids has been an experience in itself. I have seen Bill's work in the past and I can attest to the fact that he does extremely top notch work. Should be a fun day. You can key in "La Habra Community theater" to get all the details. I'm going to the afternoon performance next Sunday Aug. 19th at 2:30pm. (After the VFW breakfast) Hope to see some of you there.

Message: Yes Jim Raines I forgive you. As Dr. Phil is fond of saying, the teenage brain is not fully developed. I have heard many stories on Cougartown of the antics of our teenage boys and girls that really proves it. It's amazing how many of these "delinquents" grew up to be responsible citizens. I'm sure many of you that still get a giggle out of your past deeds and were very angry when your own kids did similar things.

Message: Aaaargh! GAG! CHOKE! I'm with YOU Marilyn, with regard to that Jim Raines story back on page 517 being a bit difficult to get by ... that is just GROOOOOSSS! Maybe the ladies from '57 were more naive, but some of the things I've learned about the boys doing back then were disgusting! WOW! Sure glad I didn't know about the cretins' activites back then!!!
