Message: Happy Saturday All....I am visiting my nieces in Claremont and they took me to dinner tonight at Hero's in The Village in Claremont. They were having an awesome car show and as soon as we pulled in I was sorry that I didn't have my CT T-Shirt. WOW, now I know why you "boys" got so excited about your cars. I can see why you liked your car almost as much (if not more) than your girl. Were there any Cougs out there tonight? Hugs. Jan

Message: Cougar sighting! While strolling down Hawthorne Blvd today to check out the awesome Car Show we ran into not one , but two Cougars, Denny Unfried,(55?) and Bill Schultz (63?)It was really a good show. Just the right size and a nice variety of cars. Everything from Classic 20's,30's, 40's, etc., Muscle Cars, some bikes and low riders. The top prize winner for Muscle Car was a 62 Chevy 409. Had to peel Bob's lips off of it. Lots of community groups and a terrific band that played Doo Wop, Rockabilly and rock. They were really great. All the cars were to be cruising down the Boulevard at 5pm. Just like the old days! Love ya, John.

Message: John, I'm sure my friend, Marlene, meant that #25 is Linda Sutton. #24 is a sweet little girl named Caroline ? who only attended school sporadically because of health reasons. I wonder if anyone out there knows what became of Caroline? I spoke to Jerry Miles this morning and he is still hoping to make it to the reunion on Saturday if his doctor will okay the trip. So everyone, say a little prayer that he makes it to the reunion. I know more of the names but I'll wait see if anyone else can come up with them. Lyle, Marlene and Jeanne will definitly be there on Sat.

Message: John, class of '67 had a Paul Clark and a Clark Paul. That led to many confusions as to whether the teacher was calling on Paul Clark or Clark, Paul or vis-a-vis Clark Paul or Clark, Paul. Well Paul [no comma] Clark and I have thought it was funny for many years.

Message: Regarding the Red Cars, one of the places where the tracks persisted into the 21st Century was the strip between "Little" Santa Monica Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd roughly between Sepulveda and Beverly Glen. If you haven't been there recently, they've been engaged in a massive construction project removing the tracks and completely reshaping the "strip." Ironically, the MTA is currently considering plans to extend the Metro Red Line "to the sea," although this would be a little further south down towards Pico. If they had just left the Red Cars running down Santa Monica to the beach, they would have had the right of way to build above ground light rail instead of the possible $2 billion a mile underground system under consideration. Geez, Louise! So, have all you 77ers (and related classmates, e.g., 76, 78 etc.) got your checks in to Jill for the August 18 reunion?

Message: I wanted to add a little more information about James Ralph Harrison, class of 1957, who passed away on July 3. He died of a massive heart attack and was not found until the following morning when he did not answer knocks at his door. Jim went to work for TWA right out of high school and retired from TWA a few years ago. His first marriage was to his high school sweetheart Linda Burgin (class of 1959), my best friend. They have two daughters Janet Harrison of Tracy, CA and Jamie Harrison of Sacramento, CA, and two grandchildren Tiffany Wong of Tracy and Rob Baumgardner of Sunnyvale. Linda passed away in January of 1996 of cancer. Jim is also survived by his 94 year old mother Wilma Harrison of Las Vegas, his sister Margie (class of 1957) Chapin and her husband Gary and their children. His obituary is in the Daily Breeze with a recent picture and the Los Angeles Times. Jim had a lot of varied interests, but my memory is of a really handsome, talented football player at HHS. His time was tragically cut too short, and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

Message: The last of the streetcars in Los Angeles ran until 1963. There are still places in L.A. where the old tracks protrude through the pavement when it cracks. It seems that some were just covered over and not removed.

Message: For all of you that remember "Murph the Surf", from the original SURFER magazine, and still live in the area, the Laguna Art Museum has a major retrospective of Rick Griffin's, 30 year career, "Heart and Touch" Exhibition from June 24 through September 30, 2007. I had to settle for the book, but great memories and pictures. Rick's life 1945-1991, left a great impression.
