Message: GREAT 50th REUNION BUDDY! Even though we didn't get to have it in Catalina! Saw old friends and made new friends and just got to be a social butterfly, enjoying every single person there! What a treat! Many, many thanks to Buddy and the whole dim-dam committee, each and every one of you! I HAD A BLAST!
Me too, Doris, it wouldn't have been the same without you....

Message: Jim, Before you donate Ron's jacket, you could wear it to the 66/67 40-year reunion on July 21st in Torrance. It would be a great way to honor Ron who was from the class of '66. We have some other '68ers coming. For those of you who are planning on coming but haven't sent in your check yet, we are over 100 strong now. Get your money in before the room fills up. We are going to have a fantastic time. See the reunions page for specifics. Linda

Message: Hawthorne Letterman's Jacket, Good Condition, FREE
Hi John, Considering all the dedication and effort you pour into CT, I'm curious as to whether anyone keeps or displays HHS memorabilia or enshrines related articles. Since '67 I have had the honor of possessing Ron Brevig's letterman's jacket. As it would be disrespectful/inappropriate to offer it on E-Bay, I'm seeking a proper place for it. Ron, for those who didn't know him, was the absolute class of Manor Drive in the '60's. A natural athlete, wonderful person and a kid of whom any parent would be proud, Ron died at 19 w/ spinal meningitis. I'm open to suggestions.
Re: the new book, it's coming along well. So far Leeza and Heather, stars of "Flying Embers," are basking in the Mexican sun of Cabo San Lucas on a "girl's trip" with their activities unbeknownst to their significant others...for now. Stay tuned & thanks for asking. Jim
Hey Jim, The 30 year old lettermans jacket is exactly the kind of thing needed for our Alumni Association "Pride and History" section (not sure it's called exactly that) to be set up at HHS. Please, for now, hang on to the jacket for another 3 months until our committees convene once again. Thanks very much for the offer and I'm sure the jacket will have a place in the history and pride of HHS.

The guy I remember was around in the 50s and worked on the other side of Hawthorne Bl too. I think he had Cerebral Palsy.

Message: The only Prinz I ever saw looked very different from this one. May have been a different model but I couldn't tell. The one I saw tried to make a left turn in front of my husbands 54 merc, in 1959 or 60. Guess who won that one. The Prinz was destroyed and the driver went to the hospital but was OK. For some reason many people that traveled down Hillcrest where it crosses Market Street thought they had the right of way on left turns. Hillcrest ran at an angle across Market. People would turn left from Hillcrest to Market from the right lane. I always stayed in the right lane on Hillcrest so I wouldn't get run into. That Prinz was a dang little car. It looked like a toy.
Yep, they pretty much all did. Today's imports are a far cry from the 50s imports, that's for sure. Thanks Marilyn....

Message: Hey John, The car looks like a Prinz which was a German equivalent to the Chevy Corvair.
YES, YOU ARE CORRECT. I don't know about the German equivalent of a Corvair as this model came out before the Corvair in 1960, but it sure has the same lines as a Corvair. Maybe GM copied the Prinz. Thanks Chris....

Message: Sorry to hear about Steve Fraser. I met Steve Fraser the first time at one of the "Cruise Nights" a couple years ago. He's one of the good guys. I hope he's well soon and back at it. Here's an early to mid sixties question: There was a disabled feller who rode a three wheeled bike in Hawthorne selling eggs from the wire basket in the rear of his bike. Anyone else remember him? Was his name Dave?
Hey Larry, I sure as heck remember the guy you're referring to but did not know his name. I'm sure someone remembers it. Thanks...

Message: Hello John, I just wanted to tell you that I really look forward to logging on and reading the feedback page..it's really quite enjoyable.. you are very impressive..it seems you know about everything..I have noticed that I don't see any Cougars from the classes of the 80's chatting and that makes me sad..I was wondering if you or anyone here knows how to get in touch with Shanda McCutcheon, she was from the class of 1988..Thanks.
Hi Jesse, Glad you enjoy reading the Ctown Feedback, and thanks for pumpin' up my ego. Shanda may be the perfect example of the Cougar who signed in once, then went away, leaving an old email address rotting on the Alumni List. And Jesse, you may be the perfect example of the person who signs in, looking for someone, but doesn't leave your last name or your email address. Please email me at the address at the bottom of this page with your last name and your email address. I will add it here. Thanks much...

Message: One of my best memories of my teen years. Having breakfast with my father every morning at Icarus Restaurant at Hawthorne Airport around 1979-80. After breakfast we parted ways; I would drive to high school (not Hawthorne High) and he would go to work. When we ate there, almost daily a couple who ate breakfast there would approach us, say hello and engage in small chat. I remember this couple said they were owners of a lumber company, either Anawalt or Learned. I believe the lumber yard was in Inglewood. She was the sweetest woman. I remember she had short dark hair. Does anyone remember this couple and if so how they are doing these days? Thanks, Tammy
Hi Tammy, No, I don't, but I'll bet someone knows who you're talking about. Thanks for asking....

Message: Steve Fraser was out at the golf tourney Saturday before last. It was good to see him and we talked of the old days at the Fire Station. He is always there when a HHS function or the Fire Dept is having a get together. He was my swim coach at the Hawthorne Pool and we always remember the treading water in the diving pool incident. Damn near drowned me. Our families go way back to the days of Old Hawthorne, the City Employee Picnics were the best. I left him a message to pull through, with the nurse, and we'll be back on the golf course next year.

Message: Steve Fraser: ...long time ago As a brand new reserve fireman at HFD, I offered to make popcorn for the guys one night at the airport station. When the corn began to pop I noticed the lid was missing. Feeling dumb and looking even dumber I frantically attempted to catch the kernels before they hit the floor. It didn't work. Corn was everywhere! (Bruce Bradford- you didn't help matters!) Unbeknownst to me, Rookie Steve had taken the lid, hid it and stoically watched this pathetic new guy scramble to minimize the miscue. Steve still prides himself in that caper reminding me often. When I called Mission Hosp late the other night the ICU nurse asked if I were "family. "Yeah, Fire family." She offered to take a message. I asked her to "Tell Steve, Jim called and when he gets out I'll make him some popcorn. He'll get it."God Bless you, Steve.

Message: Hello Everybody. The first time I laid eyes on Steve Fraser I was four years old. He and his family were gathered at Chuck and Kelly Currie's house for a family barbeque. The Hood boys were there with their parents and all the kids were busy while the adults drank cocktails while waiting for the burgers to cook up. Kelley was hard at the hoola-hoop, and the boys, with their guns, swords, balls and rocks, were setting up in Chuck's fort. I wanted to play with them, but when I asked Steve if I could play he looked down at me and said, "We don't play with babies. And girls aren't allowed in the fort." He turned and walked away. I was in love. (Says a lot about subsequent relationships I think.) Get well Stevie. We love you.
Great story Lizzy, thanks very much...
