Message: I've been gone too long...there's no way I can catch up on all the comings and goings of CT since I checked in last. I've been busy traveling to and fro but I got a call this morning that prompted me to check in. Royalty has arrived in Southern California. No, not Queen Elizabeth, Princess Doris! She's up in Palos Verdes visiting friends and preparing for the fantastic HHS reunion on Catalina Island this weekend. Sounds like it's going to be blast! Just wanted to wish you all the most glorious weather, the most laughter, dancing, great food, memories and fun! I hope you'll be posting lots and lots of pictures of the smiles on the Island of Romance. I love you guys!

Message: I just got an email from Dennis Shelley ('67) regarding the upcoming reunion. Although he'll be in the mountains with his kids and grandkids and miss the shindig, he said he would have really liked to see everyone. After many years with the El Paso PD, he's now got 10 years with the U.S. Customs Dept. in New Mexico. So beware of the Cougar at the border! Contacts like this are only possible because of the hard work of JB1.

Message: April 22 I had a Cougar sighting--my nephew Brian Bourguignon (at his wedding). His class mate Brian Scott Burlingame, attended the wedding also. April 24 Vince Schiavi and his wife Mary came to our house for supper. We all agreed that we had a lot of good times in Hawthorne. Then today at the American Cetacean Society Wrap Up picnic I met Randy Miskimen, from class of 1970. He went to York School as well and amazed me when he told me that Stella Brohome was Principal when he attended. Anyone know how old she was when she retired? Please, don't tell me she is still working somewhere!

Message: In answer to John Crotty's email about the "other" kiddyland park. You are right John, there was one on Aviation and about 103rd St. I had my 6th birthday party there and remember well the rides and the clown driver that you spoke of. As soon as I can dig them up out of their dusty boxes, I will send some photo's of the said event. Have a great day fellow Cougars.

Message: Well, I signed up my Macy's and Von's cards for eScript. Thank you, John, for putting the "shame hex" on everyone. It made us jump into action. (Actually, I think people needed an easy place to find the sign-up webpage. The Alumni Assoc. did just that).

Message: This talk about Rockwell Kiddieland has me thinking. Perhaps someone may recall, but wasn't there another Kiddieland on Aviation between either Century and Arbor Vitae or between Arbor Vitae and Manchester/Florence? I seem to recall a place like that. They had a ride where you got into miniature airplanes that spun around in circles and a small scale railroad that travelled around a large oval field. This outfit also sent a flat bed truck with a clown driver to pick up kids for birthday parties...the seats on the bus were horses on a small merry-go-round. I'm not making this up!!!! They just strapped you onto the horse with a seat belt and off you went to the park. Any recollections?

Message: Just checked the Target.com site, and so far Target has given nearly $9,520 dollars to HHS from 408 card holders. Last contribution (March) they gave $545. There's $150 dollars there, right now, toward the next contribution in September. Let's keep it up Cougs. We CAN make a difference.

Message: ONE OF MY FIRST JOBS WAS AT ROCKWELL KIDDYLAND.THE MAIN THING I REMEMBER ABOUT THE ROCKWELLS THEY BOTH WORE HATS & HERS HAD NETTING. I WAS GIVEN A TIME TO SHOW UP THEN WAIT AROUND UNTIL SHE FELT THERE WERE ENOUGH PEOPLE THERE TO PUT ME TO WORK. THE FIRST THING I RAN WAS THE STREET CAR ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE TRAILER LOT. LOAD IN THE KIDS CLOSE THE DOOR TURN ON THE SWITCH THEN PUSH THE CAR TO GET IT STARTED, COUNT 12 LAPS TURN OFF THE SWITCH THEN GRAB THE CAR TO STOP IT. MOST OF THE RIDES USED 3 MIN EGG TIMERS. BETWEEN THE MERRY-GO-ROUND AND THE TICKET BOOTH THERE WERE GUMBALL MACHINES ONE HELD JELLYBEANS AND IF YOU JIGGLED THE HANDLE THE BEANS WOULD FALL INTO THE CUP FOR FREE. THE ONLY TWO RIDES I NEVER RAN WERE THE OCTOPUS AND THE FERRIS WHEEL. WELL TIME TO GET STARTED PACKING FOR CATALINA. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!

Name: Adrianne DeAlejandro ~~~~~~~~~~ Sun-May 6, 2007, 3:40 am - HHS Time
City & State: Cerritos, CA
Message: Just returned Friday from a Carnival cruise. Was excited when the Las Vegas type stage show featured 6 Beach Boy songs, along with surf boards, bikinis, tropical shirts, and all the other good stuff that went along with that time in our lives. While in Catalina, we walked over to the historic Casino ballroom. The reunion should have a wonderful time there. The beach front establishments are lots of fun, and Avalon is a beautiful place. As for Target, I had to call Target credit with a question a couple of weeks ago, and they asked if I wanted to contribute to a school. So I'm down for HHS.
