Thanks Noreen, Yes, please update your information, Cougs. It's easy and you won't have to worry about not being contacted for your next get-together.

Message: Hey y'all, I have a proud announcement... My son started teaching as a substitute teacher for the Centinela Valley Union High School District. He got called in to sub at HHS last week!! I thought that was so cool. He was a student teacher last year at Leuzinger High, but he decided to change career plans because he feared that he may never be able to afford a home in the South Bay area with the current teaching salary. So, while he's back in school he will be working as a sub for CVUHSD.
Hi Maria, Congratulations to your son on choosing an admirable career, and doing it in the CVUHSD.

Message: Hey JB1: My brother-in law, John Wettstien (LHS, class of 56) is building up a 1932 Ford Pick-Up (this may be too much an "Old Farts" truck for "one" on your site) but... others may be interested in seeing it built from ground up. JB, I think most of us will never again see another 1932 Ford Flat Head going together, let alone a 32' pickup truck being put together again... from ground up! "John" (my brother-in-Law) is doing it right now! Do you think you have a way of showing pictures and perhaps, him telling you, what the progress is, step by step during the process...Perhaps having people asking him questions along the way? And... do you think people would be intrested? John's truck is going to be pretty much a "stocker" but what turned my "fern" was the building up of the old "flat head motor"! Man!! I hadn't touched one of those since 1956 or 57' (About) How Cool!! Hey JB...If you think people would have an interest, let me know..I'll connect you to John and you guys can see what you can come up with and if it will work on your site! I for one, would like to see something like this "saved" for history...And what a better place than Cougartown!...If anyone wants to know, "John Wettstien" most likely cooked their hamburgers for them back in the days if they went to "Skippy's" soon after it first opened! John was a fry cook there while going to school...Sorry Keith, he's just another ol' fart, hardly worth anything... with nothing to say or do, But then, aren't we all?....David
Hey Dave, Sounds like a fun project. No time to stand over John's shoulder with a camera but if he wanted to send in some photos once a month, I'd sure add them here somewhere. Thanks very much.....

Message: Thanks Alan, that site has a great story on the salvage operation. I remember watching part of the events from the cliffs when the Dominator first went aground. Then later seeing parts of the salvage operations while I was surfing at the cove during that time. Especially on the days when it was 10' or better. We would keep one eye on the large swells coming in and the other on the Dominator as the swells would smash into it washing over the sides of the deck. It would make this eerie loud creaking noise with each wave that hit it. Talk about hearing the sounds of a dying ship.

Message: Like almost any other surfer in the South Bay, I also spent many a day surfing the Cove. And when feeling adventurous in big waves, went out to Indicator Point and Lunada Bay for the heavy rollers. In those days you could leave your tennis shoes or flip-flops on shore and they'd still be there for the hike up the hill. For information on the Dominator, you can click here
Thanks Alan

Message: I surfed "The Cove" many times during the mid to late 60s. I didn't recognize it from the picture. One of my experiences there was in December of 1964. I got off work--at Bruce Nelson's Chevron, corner of Rosecrans and Inglewood Ave.-- at about 1:00PM. A rare offshore wind was blowing and I thought the cove might be breaking. I loaded my surfboard into the Stude--I had removed the rear seat and cut the cross braces away, so it stuck out the open trunk--and drove to PV. Looking down the cliff, I could see waves and about 5 people in the water. By the time I got in the water it was about 3:30. The wind was still blowing offshore, and the waves were great--about 4-5ft hollow tubes. Then things got interesting. The surf came up and at about 4:30 I was the only person out, in about 10 ft waves. It was getting close to sunset and I was worried about getting to shore. No leashes in those days. I finally mustered up my courage and took off on a wave and, sure enough, wiped out. I ended up swimming all the way in, retrieved my battered board from the rocks, and got back to the Stude in the dark. Luck of ignorant youth--I was 17.
Hey Ron, Thanks for the story....

Message: I Remember in the late 60's of going out to PORTUGUESE BEND. It had a dilapidated pier, we would walk or try to walk out to the end of the pier, where we jumped off and swam or for some, drowned as we try to swim back to shore. I guess today that pier is gone?
If it was close to Portuguese Bend, it probably headed for open waters like everything else.
