Message: Ray, it never rains on the Rose Parade, The Lord won't allow it. Karen, take Mr. Sloey's spelling with a grain of salt. It's a drawback from the Cornhusker State. Clark, my last name is spelled: G R E A S B Y. And, I will probably be the one representing the family, at the meeting. My brother's and sister's are pretty busy on the weekends supporting their kids' endeavors. To all my fellow alumni, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Cougars and their families. To Shannon Keys, I haven't seen you since our days at the Fabulous Forum! Good to hear from you. Finally..... GO SOONERS! Go Bruins! Go Bears! Fight On, USC! GO OHIO STATE!#1

Message: Must have been a softy back in 66. Bought a new Chevelle, Malibu Blue they called it. But, being a family man, got a 327, 4 speed, 2 dr hardtop. No posi, no "go". BUT, I got a bench seat so we could sit together! I just kind a liked having my honey next to me. Besides, sometimes ya didn't have to shift anyway! :-)) She did it for ya. As we have announced and J.B. also, we're going on 46 yrs together in June. So they should make these things user friendly, even today. We hope to see alot of you folks in Catalina this May. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU. Jake N Jude.

Message: The intent, Clark, is good. The verbage isn't. HHS, Alumni Association isn't the correct name. Don's input was right on the letter. Please consider the name HHS Foundation. This' worked for many, many years with the city's Parks & Recreation Foundation, who raises money for the Parks & Recreation Department. How do the current Cougars feel about this venture and will they be involved as well, again making my point that this venture shouldn't be limited to alumni, but families, businesses and the community as well. JB's efforts have definitely been a God send for all alumni, so let's keep cougartown.com as is, but lend support to any possible HHS assistance. And, JB, you're loved and appreciated, believe me!!!

Message: Jill McFarlane, Can you send an e-mail to Clark and I regarding your experience in setting up a non-profit organization including any resources and links you think may apply. I'm sure that will be a topic for discussion for the first meeting on 1/20/06 (noon to 2pm in HHS cafeteria). I am also wondering what would be the possibility of utilizing your non-profit organization to include an official alumni assoc. since your org is already established. Any opinions on that would be appreciated. John, thank you for your support for Clark's effort.

Message: Hi Everyone! I haven't posted for a while, but wanted to send a very Merry Christmas and Peaceful New Year to all of you. John has done such a remarkable job in keeping everyone in touch through Cougartown and when I read the feedback, it brings back wonderful memories of HHS; the hallway talks, cafeteria chatter and of course, Senior Square! But most importantly, all of the great friendships which were cultivated during a very special time in our lives. Best Wishes for a prosperous 2007 and beyond!

Message: Hey everyone, Merry Christmas. I've been reading the posts regarding this committee that Clark wants to put together, and frankly I don't understand what the big deal is. Clark saw a need and stepped up. Personally, I am not sure I can make this meeting, but there are other ways I am helping my alma mater. First, Bud, Wade and I have set up the golf tournament as a non-profit organization designed to donate proceeds to Hawthorne High. Second, as the class of 1977 reunion organizer, I am hoping to raise funds through a raffle at the reunion to again donate to HHS. I think Mr. Millman deserves a little more respect than what he's getting here. There is nothing wrong with taking a lead and hope others will join in, true, his wording could've been a little less demeaning, but I am sure that wasn't his intent. I am also sure he meant no disrespect to John or other C-Towners here, he just wants to help. Tis the season to be jolly and all. I hope everyone here has a safe and sound holiday!

Message: Gosh, I've been a member of Ctown since 1997 and I don't remember when we became an official Association. Did I miss something? If this is an official Alumni Association, maybe it would be wise to post some rules and regulations or guidelines for all to follow, so that in the future someone like Clark won't break those rules or step out of line by, God forbid, trying to organize a group who will help OUR school. I don't think Clark's intentions were to step on anyone's toes, I think his intentions were to set up an organized group to benefit OUR school, not be in competition with Cougartown. Is there not room for more than one "Association"? And Mr. Sloey, what does "dethroniong an empire" mean?

Message: John, coming to work this morning I had a memory of how the girls would sit next to their boy friends in the front seat of cars. You don't see that anymore!! I know the inside of cars are made different, and how the loss of the bench seat has taken away the touch of a relationship. Even "putting your arm around" your partner is gone. The only exception to this would be the pick up truck, some still have a bench seats! Did you see the snow in Colorado? We're talking deep!! Merry Christmas to all Cougs and their loved ones...

Message: I think having a Hawthorne High Alumni Association is a good idea only under the following conditions:
1. It has the support of enough alumni.
2. It is a non-profit 501 organization that can generate grant proposals to obtain more funding in support of the school.
3. The organization has to work together with other formal or informal alumni groups which support the school as applicable. Clark, if you could get John Baker on board with this, you would get the support of a significant number of alumni too. I'm sure he does not have the time to setup and manage a non-profit organization. However, if that does not happen, it will be an uphill battle but it could be doable.

Message: Happy Holiday's to everyone! Wow Ctown is filled with some passion tonight. This is all Good as long as things are constructive. I can't see Clark's message as being offensive, I doubt he is out to take away anything from Cougartown or John Personally. We all recognize John and his site as a wonderful addition to all our lives. Clark is just trying to step up in his own way, just like John did when he put the site together. I have been involved in alot of service organizations and the best thing you can have is too many people doing things. It is always a small few who carry the load for any group. The make up of Cougartown is many things, some people are active for awhile, some people just read Feedback for the fun of it. We are more than a feedback page, we are more than an Alumni Association or virtual community, we are also friends and neighbors. Our Hawthorne was so much different than today's. But, through Cougartown/or our Alumni Association no one should feel any pressure to do anything they don't want to. Everyone should participate at the level that is right for them. As a group and virtual community we can contribute to the enrichment of Hawthorne High. Just like John's web site has enriched our lives. We should be able to come together as a group and set things in motion that can benefit our old school. And do it in such away we retain our Friendships and have Fun at the same time. Just my 2 cents. Everyone be Safe !

Message: Clark...I do believe the things people are objecting to the most is the fact that you took this upon yourself sole and separate from those who have been supporting HHS for years. Especially after the posts recently on ways to help the school to the members of Cougartown from principal Bramlett and others on this site, which we were all in support of. You did not elicit our help nor our support in your endeavor. Then you put it to us that we have been sitting on our duffs doing nothing. Who and what gives you the right to say that. Had you have done and said things more tactfully then you would not be getting the response you are getting. This screw you and do it my way attitude, which is apparent in your last posts will not get you very far. My Suggestion is apologize, drop your ego and try to do this with a bit more tact through the help of all of us at Cougartown but if you want to do it on your own, your way, then best of luck to you.

Message: To all Cougars who responded to my announcement of an organizational meetin Jan. 20th for the HHS Alumni Assoc.......Cougartown is great! There is no dispute at all John Baker is the "big kahuna among hhs alum and everyone including me admires his effort and results. Even John has stated that an alumni association is a good idea. Cougartown is not designed to support the current HHS and there are definitely things that an alumni association could do to help the school. Anyone who chooses not to be involved..fine but I see no need for you to cast stones at those of us who would like to see HHS retain a positive image in the community, among educational circles, alums of all the sports programs, and the South Bay in general. If anyone is not interested, fine, but those of us who choose to form an active alumni association will be in the cafeteria on January 20th at noon.
