Message: Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about a story I did in today's L.A. Daily News on fellow Class of '79er Marla O'Hara (Manriquez) and her career as a pro beach volleyball player over the last three decades. If you can get a copy of the newspaper today, the photos are great. She's also featured in a magazine called BVM (beach volleyball monthly), the July issue. Message: I've read several comments on the early street flooding in Hawthorne. When I was attending Cabrillo in Kindergarten ('56)the city had to put up some kind of short bridges from the sidewalk to a few feet into the street so we could cross over to get to school. I believe they were bright yellow. Several years later at HHS, it rained so hard one day that the entire grassy area in front of the main (boys) gym was flooded. At the end of the day, but I think before school was officially over, Wayne Dickey and someone else, decided to go body surfing over a very long stretch of what had become a shallow lake. They were highly successful, put on a great show that literally grabbed everyone's attention that were passing by, and I don't think they got into any real trouble. Wayne, who was your compatriot? Oh, and one other thing...Wayne was one of the first guys in the class of '69 to wear bell bottom pants. It was then the equivalent to wearing a pink shirt. And, as I overheard someone remark from Senior Square, "You be the first one to try and tell him what you think!" Congratulations on your trend setting ways, Wayne.P.S. Please say hi to Donna for me.

"Having gone to Trinity Lutheran School AND then actually a one year sentence...I mean 'stay' at California Lutheran Bible School, Los Angeles...(according to the Bible) When it came to the 'unclean animals' Noah took them in pairs but, if I remeber right, he took 7 each of the 'clean animals'. I think they had some nice 'pot lucks' on the ark once they got over sea sickness.ss

Message: OK John...I'll take a guess that you would like us to get back to all things Hawthorne...am I right? Sorry to have helped get us off course, but Disneyland is a big memory for many Cougars. Back to Hawthorne. How many of you have seen the change taking place at the ball fields in Holly Glen? Looks like Joni Mitchell's lyrics "paved paradise, put up a parking lot" is coming to play. I understand they are putting up a 10-story school building. Does anyone know more about this? Have to say I was shocked (in July) to see everything dug up...a sea of brown dirt where the the fields were. I remember getting Suicides (a mixture of all the sodas being poured at the snack stand), red licorice whips and hot cups of chili during baseball games. I was crowned Queen of the Wiseburn Little League there. Cheryl Goode was outgoing and Nancy Hart was one of my princesses. Recently it was great fun to watch all the soccer games there too. Hate to see the change, but hope it was done for good reason. Close proximity Cougar sighting. Traveled through Solvang late July. Kept eyes open for Jim & his pretzels, but didn't actually see him. Next time for sure.

Message: Sherry, pretty close. In 1966 the Big 10 adult was $4 and the Deluxe 15 was $5. The value of the A-E tickets ranged from 10 cents to 60 cents. By 1972 they both had been increased by 95 cents and A-E range was 10 cents to 85 cents. I wasn?t aware of the Jiminy Cricket tickets but in 1966 Magic Kingdom Club members would receive a book of 10 tickets that could be used for any attraction for the same $4 price as a bonus.

Message: A few things you might not know about City Hall at Disneyland. You can get written information about things found throughout the park. Did you know there is a list of where the 50 Mickeys, installed for the 50th birthday, are located? Above many of the stores on Main Street there are windows with names of people who made major impact on Disneyland. There is a list of all of the names and what he/she did to deserve the recognition. Looking for a pressed penny machine? There is a list of where the machines are located and what is pressed onto the penny. So you like the Monte Cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou. Did you know you could get the recipe at City Hall? Sometimes the lists are not real up to date but most of the information will be correct. If you have questions about Disneyland park feel free to stop in at City Hall and ask.

As to the 66 Class Reunion I live in Humboldt County, I haven't been to the old turf since 1980. Ventura County is as far as my Visa will allow me to travel. Due to Homeland Security. But Rincon Beach is still legal to drink beer and smoke Winston cigerettes. I personally would chip in a bus ticket for Schroeder & Chauncey. We could all eat pretzels, if we booked Sloey early enough. I'm sure he would cut us a deal. In closing I would love to get together with you ladies & gentlemen of the Class of 66. Message: In answer to Anita's point: no, the presidents didn't have to be in Disneyland while in office. Looks like I finally came up with a question for those who thought the earlier ones were "too easy." However, Sharon Stowe got the right answer. It was a trick question as all of the presidents named had been to Disneyland one time or another. Reagan was the first as he was there on opening day. Truman was there as an ex-president. Kennedy was there as a U.S. Senator. Nixon was probably there the most of all of them. Eisenhower was also there as an ex-president. Too bad there's no "Bibleland" there, otherwise I would have asked, "How many pair of animals did Moses put on the ark?"
