Message: After getting stuck in traffic behind a gasoline truck I got to thinking, around 35 years ago some gasoline trucks had the word flammable and others had inflammable. I heard that they went to all flammable since some people misinterpreted the word inflammable as NOT flammable. Does anyone else remember this?

My husband and I just got back from a trip through Colorado and New Mexico. If you're ever in Colorado, you must tour the "Million Dollar Highway", a 160 mile loop that goes through the towns of Telluride, Ouray & Silverton. Beautiful, whether you're on a motorcycle or in a car. I hope you're doing well and after supporting three kids through school, I can more fully appreciate all you did for us at Hawthorne High School.

Message: Hi to All: Maria thanks for the kind words! Tennis was really a fun sport to play growing up in Hawthorne, you could always find a game somewhere. The HHS tennis programs owe alot to the Coaches/Teachers Like Mr. T & Mrs. Duffy & Ms. Likens. Coach T painted all the tennis courts on his own time during the summer. He was really cool he would take us to his tennis club and let us play there for free. Also, Mrs. Duffy let me workout with the Girls team that was a High Light of my HHS days. She also let me go along with them to a tennis camp down in San Diego during school hours. Now that was a nice road trip! I also would like to thank Mr. Keys, he would drive us in the school station wagon to our tennis matches. He was a nice guy, but he seemed kind of serious like he had alot on his mind. Anyway those were some really fun days........

Message: Richard ?re; Madman Muntz? Stereo Pak shop was on 117th? He made daring capital investments in which he would sink a great deal into advertising. In 1947 he sold over $75 million, worth of used Kaiser-Frazer cars in Los Angeles! The Muntz logo began on billboards, a cartoon of him as Napoleon, wearing red long underwear, identifying him as someone who would loose everything in order to make the sale. His interest in the mid sixties in a continuous loop 4 track & later 8 track sound recording cartridge happened to be another profitable venture for the old Madman. But not before he had produced and sold his own line of Muntz TV sets, and his own Automobile the ?Muntz Jet?!By the time the store opened in Hawthorne, Madman had established trade with Japanese electronics factories to produce an all in one transistorized tape head unit. He also convinced every Hollywood Recording Label (of Vinyl platters only to that point!) that his ?tape? scheme was another crazy idea, thereby allowing him to contract countless ?re-recording? options from the studios for pennies. The Hawthorne location boasted an enormous on-hand selection because of the access to endless master tapes just up town which Muntz was using to re-produce into his Stereo Pak tape cartridges. You could go into any Muntz store & order virtually any ?old? record album ever made on tape, because the Recording Company Executives of the day thought it all would simply become passé.
Al Rocca, re; Cindy Appleton, she came down with a severe case of meningitis or mono during her senior year, she was not available for the photo shoot during 1971 , and made other arrangements to receive a diploma only after she recovered. I would enjoy hearing from Cindy also, since we lived virtually across the street from one another as children. The last time I spoke with Cindy was around 1981; she appeared as a ?Curtain Girl? on The Price is Right & had several prime time TV appearances on, Love Boat & Fantasy Island. I suggest a search through some Screen Actors Management web site may reveal Miss Cindy?s whereabouts.
PS Al, for the record ?Miss Appleton was the class of 71?s very own Norma Jean, & that?s all I have to say about that!

Message: It is now July 19th -- only ONE month to the 76ers thirty-year reunion on August 19th at the Ayres in Hawthorne. Even if you are like some of our classmates who don't want to be found, come to the party. We promise a terrific time, and then you can sink back into obscurity, but after this party, you won't want to!
Contact Sharon Bierman Branigan (srbranigan.srb@verizon.net) to get your tickets today. There are only a limited number of tickets left and they may not be sold at the door. There are so many fun things planned that you really won't want to miss out. This public announcement paid for by Branigan Productions (she's blackmailing me about some distant occurrence from 2nd grade and if I don't keep posting, she'll tell).

Message: Well I am on vacation and guess what I am doing? I?ve been to Disneyland. Yesterday was Disneyland?s 51st birthday (now, maybe they can slow down on the commercials). I didn?t see any Cougars but there were a lot of my friends there. From the crowds or lack there of, it looks like a good year to go. If you haven?t planned a vacation yet my guess the end of September or early October would be a real good time to visit. By this time next year the ?Subs? should be back with finding Nemo. Well off to a Disney Enthusiasts convention.

Message: Wow, reading the feedback pages I'm taken back to when I used to play tennis on the girls tennis team. It brought back so many happy memories. In fact, when I scrolled back to the previous pages to get caught up, I ran into Dennis Kilroy's writing. I used to hit tennis balls with Dennis and watch with awe at the way he used to serve. Memories flooded back and I email Dennis just to let him know that I was thinking about playing tennis with him. We have since emailed back and forth a couple of times. Today, I see Mr. Keys post. Mr. Keys, we played mix doubles together (teacher/student tournament). We played against Sue Camu (student), and I don't remember who the teacher was. All I remember was that we lost, because Sue, with her cannon arm just crammed the ball back down our throats everytime!! Needless to say, we lost. But I had so much fun. Ahhh, the memories.... Thanks John for doing this, and thanks to all who write in the feedback.

Message: Cougar sighting. I was cleaning my bird cage last weekend (no, I do not believe ?captain? is an HHS alumni, but he?s pretty smart!) and what came face up in Cappy?s cage, was the LA Times Calendar section, dated 4/23/06, an article titled ? The Red-rumor blues? by our very own Ted Gioia (class of 74 or 75). The articles is about the FBI hounding Alan Lomax, who was an amazing chronicler of American Folk & Blues, 30?s 40?s 50?s for supposedly being a communist. It?s a great read, and a full page article. I remember Ted hanging out with Joe Mailander, they were 2 smart fellers.

I do my thing and you do your thing I am not in this world to live up to your expectations and you are not in this world to live up to mine You are you-and I am I But if by chance we meet-------It's beautiful.
I always thought Kim would someday have her own professional art studio but understand she bought a Harley and became a HELLS ANGEL. Where oh where did I go astray as an educator? Kimmy-You will always be an ANGEL in my mind.
