Message: Speaking of yearbooks... while looking in my freshman El Molino, I was amused at what other students wrote. A few comments are even fit to share in polite society: "To a big fish from No. 1 Varsity 123" -Louis Ortiz (a "big fish" is NOT a compliment from another wrestler). "To a true surfer, good luck and get a shave" -Howie Worrel (the shaving part was true but the only surfing I ever did was body surf at Manhattan Pier with my "Loose-finger" friends and one swim fin). "To the weird paranoid of Life Science, see you next year" - Laurie Gilbert "72" (didn't Armand say that was the title of an Ed Wood sci-fi film?). "To the boozer in my P.E. class" - Haratani. (this appellation was unfair since I did no more than sneak an occasional nip or two until my sophomore year. "To a cool card shark who stacks the deck" -Don Yarbrough. "Larry, you are a real neat lock picker and a real nice guy, Luv ya" -Cheryl "71". "Bach, you stupid hairy creep, keep up the good stealing" -Konrad. (seems I was not without talent and career goals as a freshman). "Larry, I'll always remember you by the girl in the garage, hope you get her some day" - Terrie "71" (no comment). Old yearbooks are fun!
One of my favorites was from classmate, John Mitchell..."Baker, Have you smokers cough yet?"

Message: All my HHS yearbooks were lost many years ago. Thanks to everyone here who is keeping an eye on ebay and reporting when there's one for sale! I went there and bought one of them. It just arrived, and it's very exciting... Seeing all the people I haven't thought of in years! So to Chris, and to everyone, they are there to be had.

Message: Wow, Gary Catallo, long time no see. Thanks for the info on Guido Nardone,..... as classic a name as I've ever heard! I should have known you would have the answer...you know everybody! Stay in touch.
Richard Witte, I knew it wasn't Mr. Morgan cruising the Blvd....I think he was a little taller and slimmer than Guido. I like the license plate frame idea though.
Mike Angle, I've crossed paths with Rich Wickline over the last couple of years. He is living the good life in West Torrance and driving a classic red and white Ford pickup.

Message: Hey John, When you made your comment about being in the licence plate frame business it made me think of a new topic. Can you name any Cougars that are in the License Plate Making business. IOW Spent or Spending time in the "Big House" I'll start with my best friend growing up, David Hopper. If he would have graduated I think he would have been c/o 80. He is currently doing 20 years in Oklahoma for attempted murder. He only shot the guy five times.
PS I would buy a C-Town License Plate Frame.
Hey Dennis, Yes, I can name a few but would rather not. Doesn't seem fair, somehow....

Message: Mike; not a Wickline, sorry, but drummed with him many a times, and remember Wickie at the Youth Band. Car Clubs, Cougar Sighting, Cougartown; Hey! Lets put them together, a Cougartown Car Club, with licenseplate frames. Make sightings more easy while cruisen the boulevard. And on those long trips, worth at least a thousand points when counting Volkswagens (aka: Beavers, and I will never know why we would yell Beaver at a Bug !?). But, if we do this, no cheap tacky plastic plateframes, but something made of real metal, lots a chrome, and at least a Cougar hanging ten on a surfboard.
Mike Shay, Tom Shelley and I used to be in the License Plate Frame business (SBS Industries). NOW you bring it up.

Message: Ernie Curcio and Mark Hawkins are names I haven't heard in awhile. I played baseball with both of them growing up. I liked Ernie's dad. I think he was a LAPD. Mark had an older brother I think that used to pick on us.
Do others on here do what I do when you hear or see a name you haven't heard in awhile. You immediately remember what they look like.
Yep, looks just like he did at graduation....

Message: Haven't checked in for a while...Just read a few (30) pages or so...Dr. Fred did have a emerald green/white landau top Eldo as well as a brown one. Read with interest an entry by Richard regarding the band uniforms and acomplishments during the early to mid 60's. I was wondering if Richard is my old chum Richard Wickline? His oldest brother Wickie was the drum major during those years. Great years they were too. John, I just love seeing the photos of our school mates and Jerry...the Wings Over Hawthorne presentation was way cool...Thanks to both...My birthday is in a week or so and the check WILL be mailed... Hi to all, it's nice seeing you...
Hi Mike, Yep, Dr. Morgan liked to travel in style, all right. Thanks too, for the membership. It IS appreciated.

Message: Is it a "Cougar Sighting" if you planned it? Tonight, I went to Paladino's in Tarzana to catch "No Duh" (a tribute to No Doubt) featuring EJ Curse (Ernie Curcio, HHS class of '77) on bass. I like No Doubt but would probably not be considered a "fan." No only did EJ buy me a shot of Yukon Jack, but his band is fantastic putting on a great show before more than 125 (mostly young 20s) fans on a Wednesday night! He said there are playing a festival in Trinidad in 10 days which sounds like a lot of fun. I spoke also with EJ's guitarist Mark Hawkins, who I think went to Lawndale. Mark told me that Dennis Connor's (also HHS class of '77) son (age 16) is an awesome classic rock guitarist who plays a Gibson SG (think Angus Young of AC/DC).
OK, I'm out too late for a man of my age.
Hey Dan, That IS a Cougar Sighting. Thanks a bunch for that one.

Message: There's a big car event here every year. It's called The Rod Run to the End of the World and the Beach Baron's (car club) puts it on. Loads of cars on display in a huge field and cruising all over the peninsula. Here's the website for more info http://beachbarons.com/ or just to hear "Fun, Fun, Fun". It will be held the weekend after Labor Day, Sept 8 thru 10. Could be a fun trip for Cougars to make in a group or individually. Lots of campgrounds and beachy hotels. Email me if you have questions. There's always a woody or two with surfboards and all...I'm always looking for a '67 Camaro RS like the one I had at HHS.
Hi Bonnie, Thanks for the info. Car Shows are great places to meet and a good excuse for our PNW Cougs to get together.

He did very well in Hawthorne real estate and always had a new CAD to cruise in looking for chicks. He still lives in Hawthorne around 130th and Ramona.
Hey Gary, Thanks for the info....

Message: Sorry to hear about Dan Nelson. I knew the inside of his office also. Got "busted" more than once for being off campus for lunch without permission. I recall one such fine noon time. Bob Bunim, Bruce George, Kevin Elmore and I were enjoying the fine, economically priced fare at "Skippy's" when whose handsome face appeared in the rider's side rear window of Bunim's '54 Ford ---- none other than Mr. Dan Nelson himself. He didn't have to say a word. He just jerked his thumb in the general direction of HHS and we were on our way. He wouldn't even accept the french fry I offered him. As I recall Dan had more than one appearance on the very popular TV show "The Untouchables".
Hey Daryl, the way you write it, I can almost feel the tension in the air. Thanks for that little memory and make your reservations as I'm going to the next Class of 62 reunion meeting tonight at 7ish. See all you 62ers in September.

Message: My first car was a black 59 MGA. That car was so fun. No syncro made shifting interesting and the twin SU carbs needed tuning just right. I used the crank a couple times just to see how it worked. Interesting how it kicks back
If you want kickback try a 23 Model T Ford and DON'T retard the spark. It'll break your arm in at least 2 places.

I also would like to send you a more current picture, how would I do this. Thanks
Hi Chris, I just tried your User Name and Password here, and it works fine. Also, you can't use the "Forgot My Password" page if you don't as of yet, have a Security Code and you won't have a Security Code until you've completed the login procedure.
The picture thing I'd rather wait on. I'm getting many requests for same and need to write it into the script, but have no time right now to do it. Give me a month or two on that one.

Sorry to see that Al Jardine and Brian Wilson (both class of 60') aren't officially listed as active members. Maybe they 'surf' the net about as much as they surfed at 'our' beach! lol I still love cars! I had a customized Blue 49' Ford at HHS in my freshman year, and a 59' Red MGA in my Junior year. Bye for now, Bob Wormus (HHS-60)
Thanks Bob, and welcome...

Message: Hi Everyone, I came across this website a while back and I can't recall if I mention this in CT. When I read it I was shocked and I was wondering if there more to the truth? What I am talking about is "GHOSTs" of Hawthorne.(as well as all places in Calif.). There was only 2 mentioning of Hawthorne but this one was right in the heart of HHS "Nyman Hall"! Here's what I read:
Hawthorne- Hawthorne High School. "In Nyman Hall you sometimes see a old woman in black wandering around there. And also the lights go on and off mysteriously. In the girls bathroom by building 17 you can hear the sound of a girl weeping. And in the same bathrooms the toilets flushes and the water turn off and on. Reports of a former drama teacher seen looking for his students and there is a lady that only comes out when you go out on stage. You could see here up where the lights are". Hawthorne Blvd. -Redondo Beach- General Cinema Theater I. "It is no longer in used. The stock room could not be kept clean, the boxes would always be open, overturned or dumped on the floor. The facet would turn off and on by itself. Behind the concession stand you could feel someone brush pass you and bump into you as you were working and the cabinet would be padlocked at nights and it would be open in the morning, with the content disheveled and the content shrewd about". The website is: http://theshadowlands.net/places/california.htm
Yes, it's been mentioned by Jerry Miles on Page 585. Thanks Raymond....
