Message: Hey all you Car Guys:
Spent the week-end at the Iola (Wisconsin) Old Car Show. What a trip down memory lane looking at the Mustangs, '57 Chevies, and custom cars of all vintages. Saw everything from Duesenburgs to Volkswagens. At the Swap Meet, there was booth after booth of car parts for sale. I believe with enough time and patience a knowledgeable Car Guy could collect all the parts needed to assemble a vintage auto!
This car show is an annual event held the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after the Fourth of July. Iola, Wisconsin is a little west of Green Bay (all you football fans know where that is...)
If any Hawthorne Car Guys come to the show next year, stop by and say hello. I'll be in the Toy Barn selling Baby Boomer toys to folks working on reclaiming their childhoods.
And John, Cougartown is great. Thanks for your efforts.

Remember when.... they tore down the circle parks and built the mall? ....there was no fence around the school? .....we had open campus so we went to Carls Jr. on Hawthorne Blvd. for lunch? or Foster Freeze? ....there were houses on the other side of El Segundo Blvd. instead of major retail? ...you could get through at Isis to Holly Glen?
Remember playing outside after dark? I wonder if they do that any more.....

I was sorry to see that Mr Garza has passed on but maybe he would be happy to
know that I am currently studing spanish and this time I'll try to get it

Message=Hi John:
We haven't met but I think your Web Page is terrific. I had been trying to
find something for two years on the internet about Hawthorne High and until I
found your site I was lost except for "Classmates" which isn't much.
Just one suggestion if you don't mind and it's only because the older I get
the worse my memory gets. I think many of us can remember the teachers name
we may have had in school but can't remember what class they taught. Would it
be possible to put next to their names the classes they did teach.
I was at the Reunion Saturday. It was so good to see my old friends.
Congratulations to all concerned who gave their hours making it such a
success.
If anyone who graduated in 54, 55, 56 has an email address please leave it here for future correspondence from me. Thank you.

Message=Hi John!
It was good to finally meet you in person! Like I mentioned to you at the
reunion, you deserved some type of tribute for creating this page for us!
Wasn't it great reconnecting with all those faces and memories again!!!
Just saw Cal Kappen's note...Cal, I wish I'd seen you there! Don't know if
you remember me...but I remember all those times you would fill your car up
with (was it Carol Benson and friends?...anyway I remember a lot of us
girls all packed up for the beach...enroute uphill on Rosecrans to 26th
Street Beach)--what simple, happy days we had back then!
Hope you're doing well, Cal!
Other faces I saw at the reunion, then later lost track of and didn't get a
chance to talk with, were Rene Ostler and Micki Acosta (Class of '61?)and
Carol Mountain (Class of '60)-- and I'm sure many, many more who were there
but I didn't see. Although "some of us" were there until the wee hours of
the morning--there still wasn't enough time to see and talk with all those
people that we would've liked to have seen after all those years! It was
really a time to remember! And after seeing the note from Mr. Plotkin (I
was also one of those who had the opportunity to chat with him for a
minute)-- hopefully many of the other teachers will discover this page and
communicate with us...(hopefully,also some of those teachers who weren't
able to attend the reunion and that we may have lost track of).
Thanks again, John! Really looking forward to seeing some of the photos (I
may have a few to contribute sometime in the next month or so...)

Mr. Plotkin,
Thanks go to you and all the teachers from R H Dana who made a showing last night at the First Decade Reunion in Buena Park.
I know all your students enjoyed visiting with you. It's so nice of you, and all the teachers to take time out and make these affairs. The student body of all classes at the reunion last night is so lucky to have not only been taught, but mentored, by the likes of you, Mrs. Estabrook, Mr. Mannion and many others who weren't present.
We salute you and thank you for your dedication.

still around the area or is his time on earth in the past? I am a former
Marine, Vietnam veteran and ex-postal worker. Let's say if Mr. Nelson and I
were to have some type of "trouble", would I have a solid case of limited
capacities as a defense? I sure would love for him to see my arms
collection! What a guy! Our mentor for all those years.
