Message: Hey Anita and Jonn (Crotty) I remember Sam Riddle. He was one of the "Boss Jocks" from KHJ Boss Radio circa 1965 along with The Real Don Steele and Robert W. Morgan. KHJ was the best radio station ever. That is till FM took over. I still have some air checks from that period with Sam Riddle broadcasts. Anyone got a cassette player?
I barely remember Ninth Street West but certainly remember Shindig, Hullabaloo and Shivaree (NBCs answer to Shindig). But does anyone remember Music Scene? It was from late 1969 and was on just before The New People on channel 7.
Hey Cliff, I remember all those guys from BOSS Radio. What a great station for Top 40 music in the AM era. Thanks...and thank you for becoming a member of Ctown.

Message: Wow! After reading the latest hot feedbacks about all the Frenching and smooching it makes me think that spring must be closer than I thought. I am surprised at how many will kiss and tell and tell it in great detail. I have to agree with John?s comment about when the girls were caught up in the passion of it all many of the guys thoughts were different, perhaps some thinking to themselves, ?If this girl likes Frenching, what else will she try?? One thing I did learn was that some of the quiet girls who I least expected--including the girl next door--were full of nice surprises (giving me--and I hope them--nice memories) Hmmm? I?d better quit before I get myself in trouble. Going back to Jim Schroeder?s summary of events, I did not have a problem believing any and all of it including the blown 409 canary yellow Corvair (it could happen) and all the Babes, but I felt kind of bad about missing the over-the-line game at Ramona. I love unorganized sports, or is it disorganized sports? Over-the-line and stick ball were among the best!(not counting Mission Beach or eastern Tri-State leagues). (I can still hear those neighborhood windows breaking.) What rules? Who kept score? --- Baxter
Great stuff there, Baxter. I remember we had some great over the line games at Jim Thorpe park and Hawthorne Intermediate. What a simple simple game, probably made up by playground kids who never had enough guys together at one time to choose up sides and play real ball.
RE the Corvair: How did they get Schroeder, Pasternak, Sloey, Egbert, AND a 409 INTO the thing at one time. That's at least 7/8 of a ton. Can you imagine the pressure on the driveline with all those guys making it slow and the 409 making it GO!!.....Now the Babes part of the story, I do believe. Thanks Baxter....

Message: John Crotty, how would you remember Michael Blodgett? I have always thought he was pretty obscure, the only reason I know who he is, is that he is my cousin. Michael took over for someone on the show from Santa Monica beach called Groovy and I think Cam Nelson was his co-host.
See, you better know your stuff, because someone knows on this website. Thanks Cindy...

Message: Yes, Mr. Brown was really maji-de kakkoii. I remember especially the field trip to Little Tokyo and the lunch down there. I thought curry rice would be good (at least it sounded good). Man, that was worse than the hottest jalapeno peppers! That turned me off on curry bigtime.

I have sense read a posting from Mary Pool that she passed away how terribly sad. I hope she had lots of fun and happiness
Hey Jack Do you KNOW she passed? No sense in upsetting her friends until you make sure, right? If she was your friend, email her. Just my 2 cents.....

Message: I can't relate my "first french kiss" story here because my MOM reads these pages!!! But I can tell you that the best HHS kisser in 76 was Dennis Drozdowski. That boy could KISS! I should thank the girl who taught him how. (Thank you, whoever you are.) Reminder to all 76ers (and others who may be interested) that Class of 76 30th reunion invites should be in the mail in about 10 days. So watch your mailbox and send it back right away 'cause it's first come first served with only 240 spots. (Facility fire rules.) E-me if you have not been receiving email updates, or are not in my database. Gonna be a great time!
Dennis Drozdowski, huh.....I'll mention him to Mike.

Message: There was a dance show that filmed at the beach sometimes. It was hosted by The Real Don Steele. It was called "Groovy" I used to belong to a daycare thing back when I was 8 or 9 or so and we were at Santa Monica beach one day and they let us dance with all the bigger kids.
I remember that one too, Thanks Keith.....

Message: Domo arigato Armand-sama, High Daimyo of Tarzana. Mr. Brown was indeed a character as well as an entertaining (unusual) teacher. He lectured in outline format, and tested from the same outline. Copying someone else's notes would catch one up if they missed one of his lectures. Even I had a decent grade by just paying attention in class. I wish it were possible to reproduce his singularly distinctive voice so others could hear it; bass en timbre, and a curious blend of Richard Nixon and Lee Marvin.

And, calm your heart Anita, it was hosted by your own favorite "cutie,"...Sam Riddle, who was also a DJ on either, KFWB Channel 98, or KRLA or KHJ...but, didn't Michael Blodgett and Kam Nelson take over those "hosting" duties for SAM??????
Hey John, Good question, and all I can say is you got me there. I barely remember the show but I bet someone knows. Anyone?

Message: Ming Dynasty?! That's Chinese, not Japanese. (Good thing I was attentive in Mr. Brown's Asian studies class to know that! Thank you, Mr. Brown, wherever you are.) The Japanese historical period around then would be the Muromachi period.

Message: I remember my first French kiss, I was 13 she was 12. She was 4?11? tall or short depends on your perspective and she already was a 36 c. I was sitting on the brick wall in her front yard (the fence was about two feet tall) and she was standing in front of me. She bent down and slowly pressed her lips against mine and kissed me. I put my arms around her and pulled her close. My heart was racing and my knees started to shake. She slowly parted my lips with her tongue and in it went. My stomach started to churn and a tingling sensation started to happen below my belt. I have never again felt such a passionate or intimate kiss sense. The kiss came to an end and I was unable to stand for a few minutes. We still talk on the phone and we reminisce about the good old days. She is still 4?11? and has the same chest and I often wonder if she can still make me weak in knees and drop this old man to the ground.
OK OK this is starting to sound like the Playboy forum up here. And another thing Pat, if you were 13 and she was 12 and you haven't since then, ever felt such passion.....man you shoulda gotten out more.

Message: Okay, time for me to weigh in with the topics of baseball and kissing. Two of my favorite past times. Back in 1979, my boyfriend and I were walking out of Dodger stadium when we were almost run over by a man and his car. He pulls over to us, rolls down his window, looked like he was going to say something, smiled, rolled his window up and drove away. We realized it was Don Sutton. At that time, he and Garvey had some sort of locker room fight over Garvey's wife Cindy. My first kiss, not sure, I just remembered I did not appreciate the french part of the kiss and thought yuck, I'll never do that again! It was years until I was kissed again like that, this time it was from someone who knew how. What a difference. Returning to the Dodgers, I went to every opening day that Fernando Valenzuela started. Baseball trivia: What baseball player played for all four teams that originated from New York. Yeah, I know it's easy.
There must have been more than one but I'll guess Daryl Strawberry? Whattayamean the first guy DIDN'T know how. What'd he do, stick his tongue in your eye or sumpthin? That would have bugged me too.

Message: My first French kiss was not with a Hawthorne High Cougar. But my most memorable French kiss sure was. The guy shall remain nameless. The kiss was like what I would imagine it would be like to kiss a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner on ?High?. Having had little experience at that time in kissing manners, I did not know what to do. I said nothing and tried to make the best of an uncomfortable situation that I too embarrassed and unskilled to correct.

Very Cool...Boss City, that was one of the ones I remember. Then there was 9th Street West, another dance show that I think our own HHS61 Jim Peppers and Sandie Tully Perry HHS62 used to go dancing on. Thanks Anita....

Message: John...Your post was a riot! Just as funny as Anitas was sweet. Its funny to read folks memories of this milestone event. I thought I had a lot of kissing girls experience before moving to Hawthorne when I was 12 yrs old. That was when I ran into the "older woman of 15" who must have thought kissing was a wrestling match. She had a tongue like a Maytag Agitator and scared living hell out of me. Anyway that was my introduction to Hawthorne women.
But Anita's mention of Where The Action Is brought back a wave of memories of the great old afternoon programs we had designed for the teenage audience. American Bandstand, Lloyd Thaxton also come to mind. Anyone remember Rick Nelson hosting Malibu U?
Are you sure "Maytag" wasn't my basketball date? I remember Shindig and Hullabaloo and of course, Lloyd Thaxton and the on going Soul Train. There were many more but can't come up with them now. Thanks Cliff
