Message: Not to change the subject But I remember seeing a post about Emmit Rhodes here recently, help me out please! as I remember he had a band called the "merry go rounds" and he lived or practiced on the hill (about 132 and ramona) any who I dont know what ever became of him. I do remember clearly that he gave me a photo of him and his group on the merry go round at the amusement park at 118th and Hawthorne Blvd, Funny I can not remember what I had for breakfast but that picture is clear as a bell! that would have been about 67? so does anyone Else remember him/them? or should I consider medication???

Message: While looking thru the Homecoming pictures and seeing Janet Ashby was kind of a shock..Friday going thru my mothers stuff, sister Patricia gave me "My Life Journal", my mom kept up until I was around 10 years old. In the journal there was a page on kindergarten days at Anza, teacher Mrs. De Matteis and best friends...Janet Ashby and Eddie King. Later Dudes and Dudettes!
Yep, Janet is one who hasn't changed much since HHS. Still has lots of sparkle. You shoulda been there.

Message: Hey John, Just a few lines to let you know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, so sorry to have been MIA for so long. Life has been at a hectic pace here for a few months, visiting kids, looking for a job, etc. Hopefully it will slow down some before the Holiday's hit and we get back on that Merry-Go-round. Here's hoping that you and all the Cougar's are doing well. Take care and I'll be back to chew the fat soon.
Pat

Hi Pat, Glad you're still with us and thanks for the shout.

What a magical and memorable evening, well worth the drive down from Northern California. The band is amazing and very supportive of Brian. Thanks Kim....

Message: Hi John- This is Hal Oostdam (Geo.Washington H.S. S'63)I enjoy your website,I too was a Hawthorne Blvd. Cruiser.Chevies Inc. member etc.
The reason I'm writing is last nite 11/4 I took my family to see the Brian Wilson Smile tour. Words fail me about how much we enjoyed it. I've seen the Mike Love Beach Boys several times, Al Jardines band etc....Brian's band "blows them all away". If you closed your eyes it was just like being there in 1964....Take it from an old Washington General If any of you Haytowners get the chance don't miss this one.

Hi Hal, We had our yearly Homecoming game tonight and I talked with Rich Sloan HHS60, who is good friends with Brian. He said the same thing. I'm glad you verified it, as Rich can be a little prejudice when it comes to his old classmate. Thanks for the info and I'm ashamed to say I haven't procured my copy of "Smile" as yet, but it won't be long.

John, we will be at homecoming (it's the only way I get to see my brother). Not sure about the after game party. We have a serious Little League T-Ball Game we have to attend in Murietta (Two grandson's on the same team) early Saturday Morning. Jill, I'll bring the hot chocolate if you bring the blanket!

Great Kathleen, We'll see you there. Glenn Crist HHS64 just got into town today and will be there too. Glad we're getting lots of out-of-towners.

Message: Hi, I saw a news story about a monument that is to be dedicated to the Beach Boys in Hawthorne. Congratulations. I am also interested in Hawthorne because I own a 66 Chevy Caprice Sport Coupe(big block)that was built in Southgate, and sold at the Kenneth Chevrolet dealership. I have the original window sticker from the dealership. It was great to find a picture of the old dealership on your website. If you are interested I could Email you a photo of the car that is a great piece of California and Hawthorne car history.
Enjoyed your site, Bill Sperry

Hi Bill, I too bought a 66 Chevy from Kenneth Chev. It was an Aztec Bronze Chevelle small block with a 4 speed. Lots of fun to drive. Thanks for sharing....

Message: I just received this letter.
Dear Patti,
This is the hardest letter I have ever had to write. September 29th, Jan had one of her breathing attacks and passed away before the ambulance could get to our home. I was unable to keep her breathing. It took so long for the ambulance to get here. With my back injury I was not able to pick her up and carry her to our car and take her to the hospital myself. I tried so hard.
I know that you were a classmate of Jan's. It gave her great pleasure to talk back and forth with you. For quite a while now she wasn't able to keep in touch with anyone. I have spent the last couple of years or more taking care of Jan. Her M.S. Attacked her in so many ways.
We haven't been on the internet for several months, we had so much trouble with our internet provider and couldn't get any help from them so I dropped it.
Do you have the address where I can write Jan's School web site and I can let them know of her passing. If you do PLEASE send it to me.
Drop me a line once in a while if you would like to keep in touch with me.
In Loving Remembrance of JAN.
Clyde

It is with Deep sorrow I am sending this letter about OUR OWN Jan Dorris Brown HHS class of 1963. Anyone who remembers this dear sweet lady is encouraged to send condolences to her husband.
Jan was such a special lady. I will miss her.

Always sad to lose a classmate. My sincere condolences to Clyde and the rest of Jan's family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Thanks Patt for letting us all know.
