Message: Hi again classmates of Cougartown, I am looking for a friend by the name of Barbara Graham who used to live in Lancaster Ca. in grade school. She graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1960 . I sent a message yesterday but forgot to tell you the year she graduated. Hope there is someone out there that can help me. Thanks Glenda Miller
Glenda, You might want to look on the alumni list around that same year, for people named Graham and email them. You may easily find a sibling or a cousin. Good Luck

Message: Greetings Cougs. Hawthorne American Little League produced alot of good ball players. I recall the Optos and the Cardinals were the top teams for awhile. My first year age 8, I was on the Tigers in minors with Bob Klein as Manager. He ran the Hawthorne Press paper. The next year I moved up to the Majors, on the Yankees. Dan Smith, HHS'70, was on the team coached by his Dad. We also had Bob Hurley, presently the President and Owner of Hurley International Surfwear. And thanks to Gary Bickers, for the reminder of BBQ Pete's and their great cole slaw. as a family we would go there every other Friday night for dinner. Cole slaw, the ham or rib dinner were the best. Then we'd head down to A&W for dessert. We'd park on the spot by the alley and corner of 136 and DIB on the cars. As in DIBS on the '57 Chevy. Thanks for the great site and have a super day.
Great memories Wade, Thanks....

Tom, Dennis, Mike Shay, and John, now folks that is a rogues gallery line up. I feel a little bad for brother Dennis, he is still throwing balloons at fire trucks. You would think 35+ years in Law Enforcement would have taught him better. ha . just kidding, I love the heck out of him. Thanks John. Ray
Hey Ray, hope you had a great birthday, and wishing you at least enough more to really get you to 87.

Message: I have been crusin' this site for a while now, and finally just had to say HI. Tryin' to get thru all the back pages and it's taking a while! It's bringing back lots of fun and embarrassing memories; some I can't share with you on a public web site! One thing I was remembering was when I was checking the teachers link, and saw Mr. Grahamer. It was in my sophmore year and I had to say something in German, I don't remember what I was supposed to say, but I ended up asking Mr. Grahamer to spend all night with me! The class burst out laughing and Mr. Grahamer thought it was pretty funny too; I prayed for the floor to open up and swallow me! I had a huge crush on a guy in that class, and that made it even worse. OH, what fun! (yes, I passed the class). It's great to be here, all!
Great story, Colleen, and glad you finally chimed in. See, it didn't hurt, did it.

Message: I just quickly skimmed through the last three pages of posts to catch up with events and happenings. Let?s see if I got this straight: After the streetfights/rumbles with rival schools, about 38 birthdays, all in February, were celebrated with cheesecakes, cruise-night sundaes, and, after standing in a long line, Hawaiian donuts, washing it all down with Boat Drinks while listening to the Beach Boys barely discernible over the roar of the 605 freeway. The new school cafeteria, looking strangely like something out of ?Close Encounters..,? ate the Senior Square. All of this will be paid for by a Nigerian on Tin-Can Beach once we all send him our bank account numbers. Hmmm...
I?ve said it once, I?ll say it again: Where else can a person find this kind of adventure and fun for only 10 bucks a year. I love you guys, I love this site! Thanks John!
NOW THAT'S FUNNY!!! ....and yes, that's just about how it happened. Thanks Baxter

Message: John, I hope you don't mind me using CTown to wish my big brother, Ray(HHS58) a Happy Birthday. He will be ? years old on February 28. Ray and my other big brother, Tom(HHS62) took care of me on the streets of Hawthorne during the 50's and 60's. What wonderful memories I have of those days. I remember when the circus came to town and would parade down El Segundo Blvd. Tom, Mike Shay and maybe even you John, would throw water balloons at an old fashion fire truck. The firemen were dressed in clown suits and would spray us with water hoses. We would station ourselves in front of Sonny Tanger's Shell station on El Segundo and Birch Ave? Those were the days! Sorry for such a long message. Thanks for the C-Town site. My dues are in the mail. Hello to all my former 1967 classmates. Dennis
Hey Dennis, It's great to hear from you. Yep, gotta plead guilty to water-ballooning that Model T firetruck that the HFD rolled out every year. Lots of fun back then, all right.
So it's Ray's birthday, huh. He's gotta be..... carry the two... That's hard to believe but Happy 87th Birthday, Ray....
Thanks for checking in, Dennis, and feel free to write anytime.

Don't let this person try and destroy the Ctown family that you have worked so hard for, by requesting the e-mail be taken off. I have rekindled some old friendships because of them. Message: Hey, John, I never mind currying financial favor with beleaguered Nigerians, so if you ever hear of any such opportunities, please don't hesitate to let me know. Also: now that your crew of Branch Hawthornians have settled on their own versions of what boat drinks might be, all legitimate I can see, let me pester you with another equally trivial perplexity: When did Foster's Freeze Hawthorne change its signage? I can see in your sit'es photo of it that it did...We have a Fosters here in the Inner City on Fletcher just south of San Fernando Road that still has the old white-on-blue masterpiece intact. Believe it or not, the Modern Committee of the LA Conservancy is busying itself with the question of what the original Fosters Freeze signage looked like, because a signage museum in Cincinatti is trying to re-create this and some other SoCal signs--if you have any old info or photos of the old sign in your archive, let me know. John, also, remember our No Senior Photo agreement we made for when I make a post here. Did it expire or something? If so, can I talk to you about the possibility about an extension? Soon after my next beleaguered Nigerian princess bank transaction comes through, I promise to reward you handsomely for this courtesy. Peace and Boat Drinks--Joseph
MY GOD joseph, you FINALLY mispelled a word....or is that miss-spelled? Anyway, per our agreement, how is this picture? AND good luck with those Nigerian fellows. I always thought that was a rather poor country.
