Message: Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving - had to wait until today to say that because my home computer was under the weather over the weekend and had to wait until I got to work this morning. My older son with wife & kids spent Thanksgiving at the house and couldn't wait to mow the lawn - it's amazing what a piece of equipment (a John Deere lawn tractor) can do!

Message: Well John, I think that there are alot of us who would like to see photos of cars from those on the list from the early days. We talk about them but, as for me, I would really like to see them again. If that's problematic for you, then perhaps just an update for "CAR TALK" periodically. Probably shouldn't ask since I haven't sent my dues in yet.
Regards Jim Raines '62
OK, does anyone have a decent picture of your HHS car? I don't know what Jim means by early days, but lets say the 50's or 60's. Can't wait to see a few.

Message: I hope everyone had a great Turkey Day. Grappa Man and I had a great dinner with JoAnn (Collins c/o 62) Ramsay and her hubby George. A very small gathering of 4. Not the usual 20 or 30 we are used to, but great. We have lots to be thankful for, and they are at the top of our list. Good friends and good neighbors. Who knew when we met in our junior year, that Jo and I would end up living 7 neighbors away on the Klamath river, here in Oregon. It IS a wonderful life.
Oh, yea, you JOHN, are also at the top of our list of friends to be thankful for. Since the 8th grade. Wow. We love you.
Ahhh Geez, thank you Cheryl and John, and thanks for adding to the website too. I thought maybe you had gone away, like the rest of the early 60's people. I LOVE YOU GUYS TOO MAAAANN!!!

Message: Just thought I'd drop in and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I spent the day out in Rio Rancho NM with my son Neil. We had a nice time. My son Chris went with me. I made cranberry sauce....tasted a lot better than the canned stuff. My daughter Amanda wasn't able to go....and my other son Eric, who lives in Las Vegas NV was unable to go. It was still nice....anyway....I also wanted to tell you John, that I liked your memories of the lights from school and the clock that ticks back before it goes forward. When I was very young I used to wonder about that clock...with my kids imagination I always thought the school was doing that to cheat us out of time and that in reality we were staying longer than we thought....that was silly!!! and the lights with rings....wow I totally forgot about them....that really woke up some sleeping memories. Was there a purpose for those rings? Or were they for decoration? Last of all I think of my Mom a lot during this time of the year...She passed away in October, 1977....So I hope all the Hahlbecks out there had a great Turkey Day! I wonder if Dale remembers his Aunt Juanita? And Roberta if you are reading this....I hope that you and Dave had a great Turkey Day too. I love you! Time to go....Best to everyone out there in Cougarland!!! Jean
Hi Jean, I really don't know why I thought of those two things (ring light and backward clicking clock). I'm sure something else will come to mind in the future, but until then I'll listen to all of you and your memories of good old HHS and Hawthorne CA, the best town in America in the 60's.
To you and your family, have a great holiday season.

Message: Good to get Thanksgiving messages from former classmates. We truly have much to be thankful for. I missed the reunion in Oct 03. Would loved to have been there. I was just returning to work after being off for 4 months recovering from a heart attack. Just couldn't travel at that time. It sounds like a good time was had by all. Would love to hear from some the the class of "59" that were able to attend. Still looking for classmate Bruce Fynan. Also the football hero of the Championship football game in 57 I think. Fred Wade. He was also in my science class with teacher Jim Herd. I need to get my El Molino's out of the storage unit. I lived in Alaska for so many years, that I am out of touch with so many people. I do hope to be able to get reaquainted at the next get together. God bless you all during this special time of year. Stay healthy, stay happy and stay close to your loved ones.

I will have my family together for a great turkey dinner in the new house Darryl and I bought together (we're too old to have kids!) and my CT family is as near as a click of the mouse. I know the difference between a good life and an empty one and though brother Steve and Michelle and the kids will be far away from the table, they are close in heart. Thank you John, once again, for being here and providing this vehicle to come together - we love you! Now, everybody eat too much!!!
Thanks Sue, for being a part of the zaniness. Tell Darryl that John says hey and you two have a great Thanksgiving.

I used to work @ HHS as a Computer Lab Tech & also as the Librarian. During the summertime many rooms were being cleaned out & many items were thrown out. I was fortunate to rummage thru some stuff & found many old photos & scrapbooks. They have many great picturs & clippings going back to the early 50's till about mid 70's. If interested I could show them to you see which ones you would like to use for this website. I want to keep most of them or possibly sell them all. Please e-mail me & we could discuss
Thank YOU

Message: Happy Thanksgiving to all the Cougs out there. It's great what you have done John, keeping all of the past HHS alumni together through this great website. Ever since I knew about this website a long time ago I have been reading the feedback every day (never did have the guts to officially check in until now), just to find out what the talk was about. It's great how every coug could just check into this website and just say hi or stroll down memory lane with fellow classmates. I too have great memories from my years in HHS, whether it was the numerous parades or long field show rehearsals from being a member of the HHS marching band to one of the more classic ones from being a part of Ms Adkins math class. In which one of my classmates gave her a poster of the music group The Cure (since she was a poster freak, had posters hung all over her class room). She looked at the picture on the poster and said "If this is the cure, I would sure hate to see the disease" that one still sticks out in my mind. I noticed though that not much 90's cougs check in to chat, why? I don't know, they probably feel it's too soon to start strolling down memory lane, that they are not that old yet. But I say It's never to soon and we do not get older......we get wiser. I know life has given me the best, as I am happily married with 2 wonderful children of ages 3(Abby) & 1 (Eddie). And during this time of the season It's all about family. So to all the cougar families out there from the Gonzalez family.... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Hey Cris, Thanks for adding your 2 cents to the Feedback page and yes the 90's people haven't been gone from the HHS nest long enough to get nostalgic. Give yourselves 20 years.
Thanks again, write anytime you want, and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I lost mine 26 years ago and not a day goes by I don't still think of him, so I guess he never is really gone from me. I also wanted to say My older Brother Dennis Burk went to his 40th reunion and really had a good time, saw lots of people so sounds like everyone did a good job on that. Lastly, I just got back from Kona, HI... my personal favorite place on earth. We are seriously thinking about retiring there in about 5 years but need to do our homework. Is there anyone in Cougartown who lives there, or has lived on the Big Island that could give us some information? We would like to buy a piece of land now as prices are going up and more folks are heading that way. If anyone can give me information, I would really appreciate it.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the Cougars. We have lots to be thankful for, especially you JB.
Thanks.

Message: With Thanksgiving just a couple of days away, I would like to share with you the true meaning of the season.
I had posted an invitation for anyone interested in joining my Annual Toy Ride in memory of our son Johnnie Baker.
On Sunday in the midst of organizing 110 Harleys, a truck full of toys, and my family for our trip from Fullerton to UCLA Children's Hospital, I was approached by an unfamiliar face. He said he was from Cougartown and wanted to make a donation. His name is Richard. I would like to share the letter that he wrote to me last night.
"First, thank you for your posting at Cougartown.com. Every year we buy an extra gift to put into a donation barrel somewhere, but we never knew if the gift really made it to a child in need (or to some greedy person who may swipe it from the barrel).
Second, thank you for the time you took to greet me and hear the story about the gift. A few years back I had heard about a doctor who developed Lil Pet's Hospital animals, as a way to ease a child's suffering by caring for their sick pet. My wife thought I was half crazy (she chalked it up to me being a HHS grad, she is a North Torrance grad) taking Friday off for an endless quest to find a Lil Pet's Hospital animal, but Sunday, after she saw all the goings on in your Toy Ride, the box van filled with toys, and even more toys arriving on the back of the motorcycles (especially the big guy with the gray beard, with the stuffed moose as big as he was, bungee corded to the back of his Harley) and understanding exactly where the animal was going, she had tears for me when I came back from turning Limit (the dog with the injured paw stuffed animal) to you.
Thank you for really starting out our holiday season with real meaning! Bless you and a very Happy (and safe) Holiday Season to you and your fellow riders.
Richard Witte
HHS'69"
Thank you Richard for taking the time to care.
And to everyone, please remember the children at UCLA Children's Hospital when you say your blessings this holiday season.
Happy Thanksgiving, Joyce Savisky Chance
Thanks Joyce and Richard for taking the time out of your holiday season to think of the children of UCLA Medical Center. I can think of lots of charities, but none closer to my heart. My son meant the world to me, and I know UCLA gave their all to save him. For this, my family and I are eternally grateful.
