Message: COLORS ***** Against the canvas, powder blue * Flecked with passing wisps of white * Autumn breezes catching colors * Stirred to full display * Hand to brow, in shaded view * History takes flight * Backward recollections soar * Counterclockwise, swept away ***** Across the void to yesteryear * Muted fife and muffled drum * Ominous, forboding cadence * Too, the bugler's call * Subjugating doubt and fear * Guaranteed to come * For the red, the white, and blue * All would stand but some would fall ***** From those who sacrificed for stars * Row by row on deepest blue * For alternating red and white * Tethered to a mast * Cherished freedom claimed as ours, * Thus, bequeathed to you * Rippling! Swirling! Liberty! * Legacy of heroes past ***** Whose courage, blood, and purity * Burst from colors full-in-flight * As well, the pride inside my chest * Hand to heart, salute! * For the dream of living free * Patriots would fight! * For duty, honor, country * One in purpose, resolute! ***** No matter ocean, land, or sky * Freedom's forces gathered there * Sailor, soldier, aviator * Each would heed the call * Stars and stripes they hoisted high * And unfurled where * Liberty was sacrosanct, * God in Heaven, over all!

Message: When I see the renovation of HHS, The Old!! School brings back alot of nice memories. One in particular was that I have grown up w/brothers & sisters that have gone to HHS & have been on campus many many times before I attended. But when it was my turn to go on the 1st day, I totally froze right between Nyman Hall & Senior Square. Luckily a really nice & (cute) guy forgot his name showed me my classes. Wow that was so many years ago but HHS always puts a smile on my face & it's also great to know there were alot of great Cougar Alumni even though I didn't know you then. Hi John, your site is better than ever.
Thanks Bonnie......

Message: The Homecoming game made for a very interesting evening. It was a pleasure to meet Sharon B., and Wade G. Both very nice people! It was "enlightening" to sit in the stands and observe the modern-day high school student. Seems to be more about social posturing than supporting your school. Have I forgotten that aspect of that wonderous Friday Night ritual of so many years ago? Maybe. At least I came away having some idea about what values I wish to instill in my daughter as she approaches that age within the next several years. It was merely a footnote that the Cougars snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, 16-13. And although the modern-day realities may be cold, the memories and the new friendships are very warm indeed...
Thanks, Cougs!
Hey Bob, Nice to know you made some new Ctown friends. And as to the social posturing, I had forgotten that aspect of the Friday night ritual. Thanks for the reminder....

Message: I went a HHS Homecoming Football Game Friday night, they were playing Redondo Sea-Hawks team. I didn't realize there were so many penalities. More than half the plays had a penality against somebody. Both teams were about = in that regard. HHS lost 16-13, in the final minute. I was only there for the second half. (I was in Palm Springs earlier in the day.) I went to a gathering of about 25 Alumni after the game 'til about Midnight. Some of the pictures may end up on the C-town Feedback Page, in a while? Folks were real kind to me the whole day. I had problems getting up so from the floor at one point, and Folks there helped me right up in seconds, my legs are not what they use to be? My week has been good. Wednesday Night good friends drove me over to 'Sizzlers,' we had a nice time and plenty for us to eat. They are helping me to get a Disneyland Annual Pass. Social Security has sent 2 checks so far. Oh yes? My few meaningless days under the sun are going well for me, so lets keep chasing after the wind. God Bless Us All, Cougars to the end.
Hey Joe, So glad your few meanless days under the sun are finding friendships in Cougartown.

Message: First of all, I apologize for my singing last night. But I was egged on by Bodkin & Mann LLP and therefore I have the legal excuse of justification. Last night proves why Cougartown is totally indispensable. With the exception of Sharon Bierman and Leroy Frye, there was not a single Cougar there last night who I remember knowing (a carefully selected phrase). However, that did not prevent me from making new friends from many different classes -- especially the early to mid 70s. Lots of stories were shared, lots of notes compared. Lots of songs were sung, lots of beers were drunk. I even sold a copy of A Fair Forgery of Pink Floyd (to Sharon's hubby). I really missed JB and Janet -- sorry you guys missed it. But I made new friends with people I went to school with but probably never met before. Cougartown is a powerful tool.
Hey Dan, sorry we missed it too, and glad you figured out that it's not just your friends but all of Ctown that you can share and have fun with. Thanks for being there.....

Message: Homecoming was excellent. Good to see and visit with those who came. Sorry I couldn't make it over to S&S afterwards. The recaps of days past and how we all remembered them were fantastic. The classes of '63 through '65 had many great recounts of classic times and adventures. I still feel it would be beneficial to all if we had an alumni day and all Cougars shared their moments. A big picnic before a game in September, festival atmosphere. Maybe next year. HHS will be 50 years young? Something to think about.
Hey Wade, Great Idea. Actually we had a Picnic in the Park in El Segundo after the first Ctown Homecoming. It might be time for another. Glad you had a great time.

Message: I'm shocked and saddened to learn of Woody McCain's passing. Although I haven't seen him since the last reunion I was able to attend (the 25th, maybe?), we were great pals in Mr. Ashley's math classes back in high school. I'm not sure we learned much algebra or geometry, but we cracked a lot of jokes and generally had way too much fun. Message: Looking forward to Homecoming and the Stick n Stien. I love the Righteous Bros. and am saddened about the abrupt death of Bobby Hatfield. In the mid 80's there was a place in Fountain Valley called The Hop. It was owned by the other Righteous Bros, but it was still a fun place to go. The first time I heard Unchained Melody, was not from the movie Ghost, but from an episode of Quantum Leap, the scene and the music just drove me to tears. Ok, I getting off the Hawthorne track, time to get back on. I am really looking forward to Homecoming, and if I had pom-poms to dust off I would. Are C-town sweatshirts available, or better yet raincoats?
See y'all tomorrow.
